I think KW asked him to be bullpen help in 2003, on the condition that he would get a legitimate shot at the Starting Rotation in 2004

I'm really starting to think that KW is doing a decent job, but he is, in his mind, contradicting himself. He wants to keep key parts here that have been loyal to the club, and he wants to field a team that regardless of costs will compete well, but still is restricted by JR and the cheap regime. Therefore, sometimes he makes moves that are good money-wise(Sandy at 500-700K, bringing in 2-3 vet starters to ST to compete), but then he makes bone-headed moves like JosE6 at 5 mill and the obsurd contracts for Konerko and the severly backloaded Maggs contract. KW has too many conflicts of interest in his head, with being still a new GM, wanting to get talent to the Southside, club loyalty, JR's cheapness, etc. I don't envy him at all.

Chalk that one up to the media. LeBron IMO will be a really good player in this league, as will Carmelo. I think its good for the NBA that they finally gave younger fans a reason to watch their "product" again. I for one absolutely hate the NBA, but even I was interested in watching Carmelo play, moreso than LeBron. NBA is just a space filler between football and baseball IMO.

Even Buehrle at 3-4 milion is gonna be a little over half of what Ponson is gonna cost to sign. It will take 6-7 mill per season to get him to sign, and thats more than you r#1 and #2 combined. I do agree with what you say about Loz, though.

I still think it will be given to, GASP, Scott Schoeneweis. They are keeping him around for that reason, and maybe Coop can get him in a good enough position to be at the very least, average in that #5 slot.

And again, I don't mind bringing Ponson in, but I cant see a #3 making twice as much as either the #1 or 2, seems a bit bass ackwards to me.
