Sox low price ticket promotion a loss for taxpayers
Dick Allen replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (LDF @ May 11, 2015 -> 11:20 AM) i think everyone knows that this was one charm sweetheart deal the sox got, look what happen when the northsiders tried to get something similar. Sweetheart deal without a doubt, but they had something the Cubs did not. A viable alternative. The Cubs had zero leverage. This promotion by the White Sox didn't cost the taxpayers anything. They distribute tickets that would have been unsold anyway. And at $29 or $49 per package, and limited packages available, it's not like they are making millions on this. It may inspire some to go to more games later, which would actually help the taxpayers' cause. I haven't seen one article crying about taxpayers with the Wrigley renovation. The Cubs got $8.5 million in property tax breaks. -
Sox low price ticket promotion a loss for taxpayers

For some reason, I don't think the Sox are the first to use loopholes that ultimately leads to "a loss to taxpayers". -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 11, 2015 -> 09:21 AM) How many games have you actually watched Semien play? Have you seen each one of his errors? How many games have you watched the White Sox play? Do you disagree with the statistics, then? Actually, DWAR has Abreu higher than LaRoche (although Adam doesn't have a big sample size), Conor as doing okay (maybe that's gone to negative since the weekend)....Melky Cabrera in the 2nd half of LFer's but close to the middle. Other than Beckham, which White Sox defenders have been AVERAGE or ABOVE AVERAGE from the good 'ol eye test? It's not a surprise you disagree with dWAR because it's inherently biased in favor of Lorenzo Cain, Jarrod Dyson, Alex Gordon, etc. Just because! http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/fielding/_/po...ARBR/order/true Not surprisingly, Gordon is 0.2 dWAR. Because he's playing the position well and the numbers reflect that, albeit limited sample size again... Go Royals. I think almost everyone would take dWAR numbers with a grain of salt through 28 games.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 11, 2015 -> 08:58 AM) So is Conor, so is Avisail...our catchers, Abreu...Alexei is slowing down, too, a 1/2 step a year. http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/fielding/_/po...true/order/true According to DWAR, Ramirez and Semien are on par, about neutral or 0.00. The list of the Top Ten defenders isn't much of a surprise. The fact that the White Sox constantly moved Semien around from 3B to SS to 2B...maybe it's another surprise that playing the most difficult position on the field without having been allowed to play there by the White Sox (at the MLB level) should consequently lead to some initial struggles. http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/fielding/_/po...true/order/true Micah Johnson is far and away the worst 2B among all qualified...it's not even close, -0.8. http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/fielding/_/po...true/order/true Adam Eaton is 25th, with only Wil Myers (who doesn't belong in CF but has to play there) behind him. Eaton is at -0.6. And Avisail is in negative territory but not quite so bad, 17th out of 26. Tyler Flowers is 20th/23. Basically, our entire defense sucks right now. In your idea, Jose Valentin was probably much worse than Royce Clayton as well if you went by simply errors and not range, UZR, total chances, all the outs he recorded with his arm that ended up as infield singles with Royce, etc. Advanced defensive numbers through 28 games is gospel to you as long as they show the White Sox suck and everyone else is great. I know the White Sox have bad defensive players, so does everyone else. I also know that Marcus Semien is an awful defensive player. Now that he is an ex-White Sox, you can't bring it on yourself to admit it. If he still was with the team, you would mention it daily. Go Royals, Cubs, Astros, and just about anyone else not the White Sox.

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ May 11, 2015 -> 08:30 AM) Firstly we wouldn't be playing him at short, we'd be playing him at second where he's probably above average. Secondly errors are not a great way to judge a defender, he's not been great at SS, but he's held his own, with his offence being more than enough to compensate. It was a bad trade. 9 errors in 32 games is holding your own. LMAO. I wasn't huge on trading for Samardjiza, but judging a trade 28 games in can make you look foolish later. Funny you failed to mention his .354 BABIP.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 11, 2015 -> 08:27 AM) http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/batting/_/pos...ARBR/order/true According to WAR, his offense is more than compensating as he's leading all AL shortstops...and among all qualified MLB shortstops, 5th (1.0) out of 21 players. Alexei Ramirez is 15th. Samardzija, fwiw, 0.8, tied for 22nd in the AL with Hector Santiago among pitchers. Take those WAR numbers on May 8th. That is how they will finish up. Semien looks like he will be able to hit, but he is an awful defender. Awful.

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ May 10, 2015 -> 10:00 PM) Semien hit two homers today. .307/.353/.488. Gave up 6 years of control of him + 3 interesting pieces for 1 year of Samardzija and a possibly interesting reliever. Sigh. EDIT: And two homers off King Felix at that. He's also on pace to make 46 errors at SS.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 11, 2015 -> 07:49 AM) All 5 of the games where LaRoche has started at 1b were games where there was a RHP on the mound (2 of them were Mike Pelfrey). I think it shows that Robin uses him at 1b when there's a RHP on the mound and he's still terrible against LHP like he has been the last 2.25 seasons so any time you select games where he's playing against RHP his numbers look a lot better. So will Milwaukee be starting RHP? Overall vs. RHP he's .235/.381/.382, and he has faced LHP in relief as a 1B. He also has an .833 OPS the last week. He's coming along. I would love to see him play 1B more myself, but I think they are afraid of speeding up the process of Abreu being a full time DH.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ May 11, 2015 -> 12:17 AM) And a SLG of .341, good for a below league average wRC+ overall. OBP overrates base-clogging singles hitters. Study came out about a year ago that identified the misperceived value of walks/singles for slow dudes. That is what I was saying about Adam Dunn for years but you guys weren't buying it. The thing with LaRoche is, he is hitting much better lately, and I bet if you looked at his numbers when he isn't a DH, they, sample size be damned, are MVP-like. I think it's moot because if Abreu isn't 100%, I doubt he plays 3B. Edit: LaRoche when he plays 1B: .471/.571/.942 And I wouldn't expect LaRoche to hit like that if he continued to play 1B, but I think it does show that he is having problem adjusting to being a DH rather than just not having the ability anymore.

QUOTE (oldsox @ May 11, 2015 -> 07:21 AM) But stupidity is. Now little leakers will be doing it across the country. I'm with Flavum here. If they don't do anything like this they are dead, have no pulse, supposedly just like their manager. If they get excited and have some sort of inside joke, it is bad because little leaguers might copy them. GMAB. It's a game. They won it in the 9th and are having fun. That is what games are supposed to be-fun.

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ May 10, 2015 -> 09:05 PM) The lack of power though has meant he's only been around league average. Gillaspie's been about 10% below league average. Probably not worth it if Abreu's as big a butcher as he probably would be. I don't think it will happen since Abreu fouled the ball off his leg, but LaRoche has been much better lately and Gillaspie is also a butcher at 3B.
-
I wonder if the NBA will annouce the no call agsinst LeBron the play before the gamewinner was correctly ruled no foul.
-
2 out of 3 without any of your top 3 pitching is nice. It is the first time I have seen 102 on the USCF gun since that guy with Detroit was healthy. Nice job by Johnny Danks.
-
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ May 10, 2015 -> 04:25 PM) This makes no sense at all. Abreu would be terrible over there and LaRoche isn't hitting anyway. LaRoche has an OBP about .355.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 10, 2015 -> 01:55 PM) Oh come on. If you would make up a line up based off how players have played this year Emilio would not be leading off. LOL. You were wrong. You aren't unique. Most here constantly telling us how dumb Robin is are really off without the hindsight.
-
QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 10, 2015 -> 11:16 AM) This line up blows. Why is Emilio leading off? Lol No hindsight is a b****.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 10, 2015 -> 11:16 AM) We should have signed Ubaldo Jimenez... Coo will fix Noesi. No use trying to field a competitve team anyway. Duffy and Finnegan.

Lorenzen has given up 4 runs in his 2 starts. All solo homers.

While everyone rips the White Sox and KW specifically for the offseason acquisitions that haven't worked yet that have his fingerprints all over them, check out the numbers on a couple of players on the Soxtalk offseason wish list, Jay Bruce and CarGo..

5/9 Reds @ White Sox Doubleheader
Dick Allen replied to BaconOnAStick's topic in 2015 Season in Review
QUOTE (Mike F. @ May 10, 2015 -> 09:39 AM) It was an 8-2 game in the top of the 9th inning. There is literally no other time that would've been more perfect for his debut other than that situation. Let him get a feel for things. If he got into trouble, then bring in Robertson. What if he came in and got lit up? You would have had to use Robertson anyway. Plus the bullpen was taxed. If somehow, the game went to extra innings, who is available? Robertson needed the work and made it quick. Robin was right, the chronic complainers were wrong. -

QUOTE (GreenSox @ May 10, 2015 -> 07:43 AM) If he can't throw 3 pitches he needs to be in AAA. The clowning on the basepaths needs to stop. How many runs did A Garcia's caught stealing cost this team? We started that inning off with 4 straight hits and scored 1 run. Keep Beckham in the utility role - that appears to have been a nice pickup. It's when he gets over-exposed that he gets into trouble. You can't even enjoy an 8-2 win? -

QUOTE (DashFan @ May 9, 2015 -> 04:34 PM) Be hands on, Robin. Tell these guys to take a damn pitch! If there's no other reason to give this coaching staff the boot, the plan at the plate is non-existent from top to bottom. If managers were judged by how their teams hit Cueto most wouldn't last very long. -
If they are meeting at 7:40 You would have to give overwhelming odds on a DH tomorrow. 3:10 1st pitch.
-
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 8, 2015 -> 07:07 PM) That is a strange statement. Suggests he's been too detached? From what Levime wrote, there willl be fewer guys with green lights, things like that. Makes me think this new policy may have been the reason Eaton held up at secomd the other night on a sure triple. The other thing I noticed is Robin usually only goes to the mound to take someone out. He has been out there twice on this homestand with no pitchimg change. May be a coincidence.

I think all his shenanigans might have tsken the air out of YVentura's sails. He is getting battered around again. He may need to be an asshole to be good.
