  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 18, 2014 -> 09:17 AM) Its their home station. They always get layup interviews. Really, no one in Chicago challenges anyone in sports. What would you have challenged him on today?
  2. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 18, 2014 -> 09:22 AM) Has anyone actually asked about the loss of velocity from E. Johnson? Seems like it's just about his performance. Edit: By anyone, I mean any media to Sox front office or even media like Steve Stone. It would seem since he is still pitching, it isn't an injury. I think maybe his arm slot is off a little bit or something else mechanical. He can't even throw strikes, so it really would make zero sense the team would keep sending him out there even if they just suspected he may be injured.
  3. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 18, 2014 -> 08:22 AM) Coincidentally, exactly 27 teams won more games than us last year. Comparing attendance totals to the past is useless because of all the cultural and technological changes, and if you want to know the secret to high attendance compared to other teams, look at the win column. And no, I don't mean the "had a couple exciting months before falling out of it a couple years ago" column. When the Sox had Maggs, CLee, Big Hurt...their attendance wasn't even average. According to Caulfield's post, they weren't even average when they won the division in 2000 or when they won the WS in 2005. Wasn't there a 10-15 year stretch where the White Sox won more games than just about everyone except for 3 or 4 teams? I think the problem is the fanbase is stuck in the finding an excuse not to attend games mode. Not necessarily the fans fault. There have been great restaurants that didn't draw a crowd. Great TV shows that didn't draw an audience. Somehow, Brooks and his crew need to make USCF a destination, but until they start winning often, I think he has zero chance.
  4. Cain isn't fooling many
  5. It is always weird when Dunn gets a base hit to right with the shift on.
  6. QUOTE (1dog @ Jun 17, 2014 -> 08:34 PM) Well yeah, but I didn't want to go too far. ha In that situation where 1 more ball scores a run, it's an absolute no-brainer. I have never seen a non pitcher in this kind of streak where he cannot put the ball in play.
  7. QUOTE (Tmar @ Jun 17, 2014 -> 08:33 PM) When's the sixth inning Right after the 5th.
  8. QUOTE (1dog @ Jun 17, 2014 -> 08:27 PM) Ventura should be immediately fired for not giving Tyler the take sign on 3-1. Just insane to trust that guy not to swing at ball 4. He should give him a permanent take until his fix really fixes him.
  9. WTF was Morse doing there?
  10. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 17, 2014 -> 08:22 PM) Loaded up no DP please. De Aza granted your wish. So we get to watch Flowers strike out again.
  11. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 17, 2014 -> 08:16 PM) I believe the one to right center was a line drive and didn't look like it was high enough or even far enough to be gone without the wind.. Maybe a double in the gap which would have done just fine... And I remember the one hit to right field not being hit really hard. Not like I jumped out of my seat thinking it was going to be gone or not like I did with Abreu's. I know the wind hurt some of the balls that were hit but I don't think Beckham would have hit a home run if there was no wind on Sunday LOL.They both made the track right into the teeth of the wind. I wish I had taken a picture of the look on his face after the second one. He was in disbelief.
  12. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 17, 2014 -> 08:12 PM) I was at the game and I don't in the 3 chances he had with runners on he had homers taken away from him by the wind.. Abreu did though. Yeah, it was frustrating to watch along with Rienzo.. Hoping for a better game tomorrow (last game I can go to this year) One to right center and another one to RF.
  13. Good for,Gordon. He had 2 homers taken away by the wind on Sunday.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 7, 2014 -> 08:52 AM) There are no penalties for going over on an individual pick. Penalties are for going over your full draft allotment. YOu could literally give all of your entire allotment to one player, not sign another player over $100k, and pay no penalties. Not your whole allotment. You would have to give rounds 2-10 something or you lose the slot value.
  15. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 16, 2014 -> 03:04 PM) What the hell are you guys talking about? Taylor is 28 and has 81 career major league plate appearances. I think Marty is saying he has 81 plate appearances as a 28 year old, and the argument is technically he hasn't played in the major leagues as a 28 year old, only when he was younger. So technically he has 0 AB as a 28 year old in the major leagues. I could be wrong.
  16. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jun 16, 2014 -> 02:47 PM) He was demoted to Birmingham last year as well. He actually spent much more time in Birmingham then he did in Charlotte in 2013. He's been circling the drain for awhile. Definitely, but to me the difference is last year he was so brutal it was the only thing they could do. This year, it wasn't like guys like Tekotte were heads and shoulders above him performance-wise. Maybe they just had to see him fail one more time to get it out of their system, but I think BUST is now official.
  17. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jun 16, 2014 -> 02:40 PM) Charlotte Knights ‏@KnightsBaseball 48s ROSTER MOVES: Michael Taylor officially added to #CLTKnights, takes Jared Mitchell's roster spot. Mitchell sent to @BhamBarons. Taylor takes Mitchell's spot in Charlotte's outfield. Mitchell demoted to Birmingham There were a few guys they could have demoted or waived. I'm surprised they demoted Mitchell. Shocked really. I think this is the unofficial pulling of the plug.
  18. The problem with lottery ticket signings is while there is little to lose, like the real lottery, there is an even smaller chance it works out. No problem with the Sox buying some, but I wouldn't get too excited about any of them. (and I am a guy who buys a powerball when the prize gets huge and I actually convince myself I will win) . There generally is a reason guys are available for nothing in salary and nothing in talent surrendered.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 16, 2014 -> 09:57 AM) You're the one who keeps saying he has no leverage. Force his hand and get this done. Short seasons are about to start up. He has no leverage other than being stupid and not taking the offer. But why play hardball when you don't have to? What does it really matter if he starts pitching next week or a month from now? The "I'll show you" mentality doesn't make sense to me. Why start this relationship on a sour note.?You never know, you may want to sign this guy to an extension some day. If you were selling him a house or a car or something like that where you would never have to deal with him again, sure, play tough. But he is going to be part of your team. IMO, it is not worth the angst he may acquire and never forget to feel superior and think you won for a couple of days.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 16, 2014 -> 09:44 AM) For my two cents, if they really want to call Rodon's bluff, they should make it known that they will be offering the draft slot surplus to De Oca if Rodon doesn't sign by a certain date. After that date, only the slot money is there for Rodon. Why would you risk Rodon for de Oca? There is basically nothing to bluff here. The cards are on the table. Am I missing something here? If de Oca is a great prospect willing to sign for $350k + college tuition, why didn't anyone take him at that slot or earlier?
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 15, 2014 -> 07:59 PM) Which is more important, a 3B who will hit 25 homers for 6 years, cost-controlled...or an average MLB closer who will start earning a lot more money than he's worth beginning in 2015? The 3rd baseman. Unfortunately the guy they got is hitting .180 in AAA and has fanned more than Tyler Flowers. And as a defender, he supposedly had a great bat. He in no way is the 3rd baseman you are describing.BTW the Sox are paying Bellisario $2.5 million more than they would have paid Reed this year and he is also 1st year arb eligible next season.
  22. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 15, 2014 -> 02:11 PM) I posted this in the other Flowers thread, too. Maybe the Sox could try to acquire Giants prospect Andrew Susac. He is stuck behind Posey and pretty much ML-ready right now. The Giants do not have a real MLB second baseman. Their starter most of the year is batting (Hicks) is batting .177 though with 8 HRs but also has an insane 32% K-rate. So a swap of Beckham for Susac would benefit both teams. Plus, the Giants do not have a top prospect at second base. MLB.com's prospect report on him. Granted, it's the Pacific Coast League, but he is batting .288, .388 OPB and an .892 OPS. There have been rumors Posey isn't going to be catching much longer.
  23. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 15, 2014 -> 02:14 PM) Pretty much my thoughts (aside from I believe Lavine has himself into the lottery). You're obviously not getting Embiid, Parker, Wiggins, or Exum. Luckily the draft is crowded. If one of those second tier players begins to fall (Randle, Vonleh, Gordon, Smart, Hood) to an area where you can trade up, I'm all for it. Hood especially, though we might get him at 16. Harris doesn't excite me. I'd rather take a chance on two first rounders. I don't know the numbers but i thought I read part of the reason they want to trade up is cap space.
  24. If there was no wind today, i'm thinking both teams put up at least 12.
