QUOTE (Marty34 @ Apr 17, 2013 -> 11:06 AM) What are you afraid of finding out? I already know. There isn't a long list of guys Jordan Danks' age with less than 100 career AB that has turned into anything but a back up. He'll be a good pinch runner, but if he's taking ABs away from anyone, the Sox, even with the way they have been hitting, will be weakened. I just don't understand that on a board where one or two bad games is a sign of how the every other game will go, how this guy is so popular.

For a guy who is older than Gordon Beckham and has a career .560 OPS, Jordan Danks gets an extreme amount of love around here. How does one conclude he is better than Wise?

Game Thread? Sox vs Jays? 4/16/13? 6:07 CT?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 07:08 PM) Axelrod and Gimenez are very close...does seem to be this emerging storyline that Gimenez is doing a better job with pitch selection, although we have no idea with Cooper gone who's doing what exactly. Is it Parent? The individual catchers? Ventura? Sox catchers call pitches. You will see them get signals from the dugout, they are usually for pitch outs or actually to give a pitcher a sign to throw to first. -

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 07:01 PM) He put up a 1.86 ERA last year as a starter. You know, compare that to Axelrod's ERA over 5 last year and again so far this year. This shouldn't even be a discussion. And the only time he went over 5 innings was the last meaningless series vs Cleveland. Using rhe same criteria Dan Johnson should have been given a $10 million contract to play 1b. He is hitting .150 in AAA I know thhe argument will be he wasn't stretched out, but he gets close to 100 pitches in the 4th inning. Not exactly what you are looking for in a starter. Don't get me wrong, I think Axelrod is smoke an mirrors, I just dont think Santiago is this star in the making many seem to be making him out to be. -

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 06:52 PM) How is a win rooting for bad things to happen? We all presumably want Santiago in the rotation, that's a good thing. How do you know Santiago in the rotation is a good thing? -

Do people really believe the White Sox have no idea Axelrod is lacking in the talent department? -

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 06:27 PM) This might be a 90-loss team. Isn't that your goal? -
QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 03:39 PM) You want Lillibridge back? DFA Since the beginning of last season he is 38 for 214 a .178 avg. 3 homers 11 walks and 80 ks and 4 teams.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 01:09 PM) But he makes no contact. He's f***ing awful. A lot of people that have a problem with him now defended him last year. Historically, even his walks haven't led to many runs on any team he is been on. The reality is, his worth is putting the ball in the seats. I would imagine he will do that as much as any White Sox in 2013. I would also imagine his walk rate will be a little higher than it is now.
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 12:54 PM) So the big plan with Adam Dunn was to take away the one thing (taking walks) that lead to him getting meatball pitches, and thus turn him into a complete waste of a player? No. He's supposed to be swinging at meatball pitches, making more contact, hitting more home runs, and driving in more runs. It will eventually lead to more walks.
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 12:54 PM) I'd give him another chance, nothing to lose. He can turn into a stopgap that could allow you to get something for De Aza. Seriously, what are you going to get for anyone besides Sale on the Sox roster that would be useful by the time they had a team worthy of the MLB logo on their back shoulder after a rebuild? Why do you whine about the Sox being bad, but only want them to get worse?
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 12:50 PM) Why not? Let's see if he can be anything useful. They already know the answer.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 12:14 PM) So you think he can achieve those numbers with his new approach or you're just confident he'll ditch it in the near future? Again, I don't disagree with you about what Dunn is capable of, but he needs to go back to his old approach. The numbers in that article show why swinging early in counts is killing his game. This isn't just a slow start like last year, this is a flawed approach to hitting that is unlikely to ever work for Dunn. I'm questioning this "new approach". Was he experimenting with this "new approach" last year when he was slumping? If he's putting the ball in play when he's going well, the ball is eventually going to start leaving the park really often. Again, I don't think Dunn is an All Star. I don't think he's worth $15 million a year, but he can be a big part of an offense, and I don't see anything wrong with him hitting the ball. He's in a slump. Right now, he popping out when he would be drawing walks. When he's going well, he'll be popping homers when he would have been fanning.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 12:05 PM) You are the last person I thought I'd see defending Dunn to any extent, but I agree completely with everything you're talking about. I am not a fan especially batting 3rd, and would rather the Sox be spending that money on something else. But his homers are useful. I just don't see how anyone can come to the conclusion he is much different from last year yet. If he puts the ball in play more often, I don't see how he possibly will hit less home runs over the course of the season.
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 09:52 AM) I take it you didn't read the article, because there's been a fundamental change to his hitting style this year and the article shows that he has indeed changed his approach and is swinging significantly more early in counts. I agree with you he is probably an .800 OPS player now, if he were using his normal three true outcome approach. Until he goes back to that though, he will continue to kill our offense. And I'm saying he will probably hit around .200 with around 40 homers and probably over 200 strikeouts. Just like last year. Probably a little worse than last year, but it's 50 AB. It's amazing how everyone comes to conclusions so quickly. Last year when everyone thought he was so valuable, from 4/8-4/17 he was 5-34 with 1 walk.
-
Usually when there is such an outpouring on this board about a player being better than what is being used, they wind up failing miserably when they are acquired or do get their chance. Rob Mackowiak and Alex Cintron were must acquire players. Josh Fields was going to be a star. Remember how mad many were when Crede was the starting 3B in 2008. Tyler Flowers was very popular as a back up. His popularity is waning by the hour. Santiago is the new flavor. He's doing fine out of the bullpen. Hopfully, Danks is the one who takes Axelrod's place.
-
I don't know how you can conclude anything on Dunn. I'm sure he's had stretches like this just about every year of his career. He's probably a .200 hitter with close to 40 homers and 200 k's. Not worth what they are paying him, but useful in today's game.
-
QUOTE (Knuckles @ Apr 15, 2013 -> 06:35 PM) HAHAHAh Mark just schooled him. That was funny. It was sad. What are they paying Daryl Boston for?

How does a White Sox get picked off like that? That was just dimb.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Apr 14, 2013 -> 12:17 PM) This could be a winless road trip. It is still possible, but very doubtful.
-
QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 14, 2013 -> 12:16 PM) Fun bad has arrived. I want an 0-10 road trip. Let's just get this s*** over with and get a top pick next year. Then you say...It's only the first inning. Then I say....this team sucks. Then you say....it's only the 12th game. Then I say...this team just isn't good enough. No, i say if you want the Sox to lose the 12th through 16th games of the year,, you are either not a Sox fan or a real s***ty one.

On May 16th last year the Sox were 17-21. Why does one bad week freak so many people out? -
Will Dan Bernstein start ripping people for feeling for Kobe?
-
QUOTE (Knuckles @ Apr 13, 2013 -> 01:17 AM) He'll be back before Rose. I don't know. It will depend on whether or not Kobe's brother, Reggie Bryant approves of the Lakers roster next year. They have several nice players, but Kobe is going to need more before Reggie sends him out there.
