  1. QUOTE (Cali @ Aug 14, 2012 -> 06:10 PM) Goodbye Huddy? Probably not, but good bye Olmedo certainly I think it would be Hudson. Olmedo can play SS. But I also think it will be in September making it a moot point.
  2. Peavy on the mound and a s***load of Manto praise on the broadcast. Double whammy. This has the makings of the Sox struggling to score.
  3. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 04:31 PM) Since some people want so badly to point out numbers: Wise's career mlb OBP in over 1000 plate appearances (again he's not young) is .259. I rest my case. There will be refreshments served in the lobby while the jury deliberates. What are his numbers this year? Isn't that more important than what he did in 2006 or 2009? BTW, Jordan Danks career OBP before the one AB you said had no bearing on your feelings was .260 and his sluggling pct. .271. The verdict is in. You lose.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 03:07 PM) So the reality is, they are pretty identical players offensively, but Danks is a better defender. Looking at the numbers, you are vastly underrating Wise's defense. His career numbers are pretty impressive. Well above average.
  5. Peppers has to have some sort of grounds for a lawsuit. Amazing how little you have to do as a student to be eligible to play.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 01:46 PM) I think it's pretty obvious he'll hit below .200 again. But his dingers have been a big plus this year and his RBIs. Its possible, but not obvious. He only needs one more hot streak to almost guarantee it won't happen. Earlier he got it up to .215, went 2 for 27 and it only dropped to .205.
  7. The Rockies signed Jeff Marquez to a minor league contract. I think Adam Dunn has a better chance of hitting .350 than Marquez ever helping the Rockies pitching.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 01:29 PM) You're only saying that because of The Catch. Absolutely not. To this day, I have never seen the catch Per mlbtraderumors when Wise signed with Toronto in 2010: The Blue Jays have signed outfielder DeWayne Wise to a minor league deal, according to James Hall of MLB.com. Wise, 32, opted out of his deal with the Phillies on Tuesday. In 145 plate appearances for Triple A Lehigh Valley, Wise posted a slash line of .272/.317/.515. In his big league career, which has spanned parts of seven seasons, he has hit .216/.255/.380. Wise is known for his outstanding defense and has a career UZR/150 of 9.2 in the outfield.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 01:25 PM) On this team, the smart move is to take the better defender. That is the primary thing we need out of our 4th OF, especially with Dayan Viciedo in LF. Wise is a decent enough defender. Its not like he's Ralph Garr. When rosters expand, defensive replacements will fit in nicely. From mlbtraderumors: The Blue Jays have signed outfielder DeWayne Wise to a minor league deal, according to James Hall of MLB.com. 10. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 01:14 PM) Wrong. I would have. It's not about the f***ing homer or his OPS in his 49 ABs. I happen to like his speed, his defense and his potential and prefer him to Dewayne Wise. Why do you have such a problem with that? You wouldn't have had as much company as you do today. Wise's OPS in the major leagues this season is .791 and he's better at stealing bases than Danks. I'll take the mediocre veteran over the mediocre rookie everytime in crunch situations. Sorry you have a problem with that.
  11. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 01:02 PM) It's funny that everyone is harping on the homerun. No one except for Greg (bless him) has said that was the reason why Danks should still be on the Sox and that was in another thread. The Sox made a decision to go with a more experienced guy in Wise as their 4th outfielder for the next 20 days. I just happen to think Danks was doing fine in that role and there was no need for Wise in the first place. That said, I hope Wise does a Rennie Stennett in his next game and goes 7 for 7. If he popped out and didn't homer, there wouldn't have been complaining about a guy with a .260 OBP and a .520 OPS which is what he would have had, if not slightly lower, being optioned to AAA for 20 days. Most people who are very upset by this would have most likely thought it would be good for him to get some ABs, come back in September perhaps with a little momentum at the plate. There's someone on another board who basically thinks this move will either keep the Sox out of the playoffs or kill them in the playoffs if Danks isn't on the playoff roster.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 01:03 PM) TRY THE VEAL EVERYONE! Chicago White Sox ‏@whitesox Prior to tonight’s game @BlueJays, #WhiteSox recalled LHP Donnie Veal from Class AAA Charlotte. @KnightsBaseball That's Steve Stone's guy. He was the one who reccommended the Sox sign him.
  13. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 10:41 AM) But 49 at bats is totally large enough! And his defense is far better than simply solid He's a good defender, but he's had a couple shaky moments, so while he's capable of outstanding defense, I think solid is a good way to describe how he's performed. Wise isn't bad in the field. Probably not at Danks' level, but definitely good enough, plus he's used to hitting and playing off the bench.
  14. All this Danks love has to be based on 1 AB. His OPS coming into that AB was .531. If the Sox miss him, they aren't any good anyway.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 09:41 AM) And if that is the debate, I can always point out Jose Bautista. An exception, but when he was 25 he put up a .755 OPS. Does anyone really think Danks could do that?
  16. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 09:29 AM) So what? You keep riding that, some guys take longer to get to the big leagues. He went to college, he didnt start the minors until he was 22, Konerko went straight to the minors at 18. Look, I get it DA, you dont think he is worth complaining that he is going to the minors. I dont think it is a big deal either, i actually prefer him to get regular ABs for the next 3 weeks as well. But I certainly dont think he is awful and is never going to amount to anything. Generally, 26 year old back ups don't develop into productive players. Obviously there are exceptions, but the odds are heavily stacked against Jordan Danks being anything but a mediocre major leaguer.
  17. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 09:17 AM) He hit he walk off game winner Friday that is the issue here along with the fact he made some very nice catches. He's a good fielder, even though he was shaky a couple of times in the field. His homer was the only thing of significance in his 49 AB. He only walked once, struck out 12 times, hit a few balls hard, but not many. He's certainly no difference maker and again its for 3 weeks.
  18. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 09:21 AM) 49 at bats. That was konerkos line over 3 seperate seasons. After 49 at bats? .195/.277/.195. Ops .472 http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/...b&year=1998 What was Konerko, 21 or 22? Danks is 26.
  19. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 08:57 AM) He been awful, and he needs to have a good road trip. Hopefully he hits four homers this week, and they can take down that ridiculous sign in right field. Yeah, 396 is getting a little rusty.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 08:49 AM) Ah, it was Lastings Milledge. Yeah, the uproar over Lilli being kept and Milledge released. At least in seasons past, there was reason to complain about something. The team is in first place and instead of being happy they took 2 out of 3 vs. Oakland and gaining a game in the standings, many are more concerned a 4th OF is being sent to Charlotte.
  21. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 08:46 AM) Our 3-hole hitter is hitting .177, with a .691 OPS since May 30 (62 games). So what. He draws a lot of walks. Dunn is a good guy to have on the team. Not at the level he is paid, but he shouldn't bat 3rd. His average is getting pretty low, but he seems to have some support at the .204 or .203 mark. When he dips this low, he's been getting it up to about .215 the last few times before tailing off again. He's due to get hot. They are going to need him to get hot, especially without Paulie.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 08:43 AM) Remember when they kept Lillibridge on the roster last April and sent down/released "I can't remember who they released"? I really don't think many realize Jordan is not some 21 year old phenom. He's actually a month older than Beckham.
  23. I've never seen such dissappointment over a 26 year old with 49 career ABs and a .621 OPS being sent down to the minors for 3 weeks.
  24. AJ has been a pretty good bargain his 8 seasons as the Sox catcher. He's averaged less than $5 million a year. Considering his workload, its been a steal.
  25. On the Red Line to the game yesterday, I was sitting next to a scout for the Nationals going to the game to scout "for trades" is what he said. I didn't talk to him, a woman from Texas asking for directions did. He mentioned he was with the Royals and Dodgers previously. I googled him and he's Bob Schaefer. I don't know which team he was looking at or if he was looking at someone in specific, or just a general scouting assignment.
