  1. QUOTE (kapzk @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 12:56 PM) It still sad to think that we could have had Fielder or Adrian Gonzalez if we had packaged away Beckham/Daniel Hudson. ????????
  2. The offense has been putrid. KW should look into Elijah Dukes, he's available.
  3. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 10:00 AM) Violence against women is abhorent. However, the issues between Mr and Mrs Myers are their private issues and business. If they, and expecially, Brett are working on making their marriage work and the people in that marriage better peope and more respectful of each other than it is not for anyone else to judge. Now back to baseball. It appears the acquisition of Brett Myers the pitcher from Houston was a good move and we most certainly needed to get some experience in that bullpen. I hope it translates into wins. We will see if its a good move. Historically, he hasn't fared too well against the AL.
  4. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 09:20 AM) I don't see how wanting Myers to do his job well correlates to being pro wife beating. Its about the excuses now made for him. Many of these Pro Brett Myers opinions would be wife beater posts if the Cubs were in contention and acquired him. I don't think anyone here is pro wife beating, but they do make excuses for the guy when he becomes a White Sox. There are no excuses. It show an extreme flaw in character and shows the guy is a total coward. KW put White Sox fans in a position where they have to cheer for a known wife beater. There's no excuse for that. I don't care how desperate he is. There is no doubt in my mind there are several MLB teams that wouldn't take Brett Myers if he was free due to that incident. I wish the White Sox were one.
  5. QUOTE (pktmotion @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 02:24 AM) +1 Trying to find role models out of a sport, that not only promotes but documents incessantly the individual athletic merits of its players, is extremely pointless. Might as well model your good samaritan skills by observing the ethical behavior of type-A-venture-capitalists. or to put it in other words... If he pitches well couldn't care less. I'm not trying to find a role model. I'd imagine a good percentage of these guys are guys if you knew them, you'd want nothing to do with them, but there is a line. Not personally knowing them and cheering for them is easy but to a certan point. Wifebeating is over the line. There is NO reason to beat your wife. I don't care what she says or does. A 6'4"240 pound man dragging a 5'4" 120 pound woman by the hair and hitting her is NEVER justified. She admitted he hit her. She said she wasn't going to let him do this to here anymore suggesting it had happened before. If he was willing to do that in public for all to see, its hard to imagine what it must have been like in private. He's a certified POS. I hope the White Sox win, and I hope he has nothing to do with it. If they do lose, I hope its all his fault.
  6. Myers has a 5.64 career ERA vs. the AL. I wish I could answer how he will help the White Sox, but I can't. I want the Sox to win. Any praise this guy gets for his performance even if he is perfect the rest of the season will not come from me, but I'm really not expecting he'll be any better than Nate Jones with a whole lot more baggage.
  7. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 06:52 PM) I'm not about to get a beer with the guy, but the facts are very blurry in that particular situation and it is not clear to me that he is simply a "wife beater." Until someone can make that more obvious I'm going to assume that he's a f***ed up guy that is trying to get better. He made it sound in his statement like they both may have had a drinking problem. I hope a reporter asks him and/or KW about it because I'm interested in what is said. Chicago fans are right to be skeptical Read this. Boston Globe. She was quoted as saying he hit her twice. A witness reported her saying, 'I'm not going to let you do this to me anymore". The man is scum. Phillies pitcher Brett Myers arraigned for allegedly beating his wife June 23, 06 01:17 PM By Suzanne Smalley Globe Staff Brett Myers, a pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies, was arraigned this morning after being arrested shortly after midnight for allegedly beating his wife in front of several witnesses on Boylston Street, authorities said. Myers, 25, was released by a judge this morning after pleading not guilty to assault and battery charges in Boston Municipal Court, according to David Procopio, a spokesman for Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley. The pitcher and his wife, Kim Myers, 28, were walking back to their hotel from a bar when a dispute broke out 900 Boylston St, according to Procopio and a police report. Police responded at 12:26 a.m. to a 911 call reporting a domestic assault, Procopio said. Myers' wife told police she believed her husband hit her twice in the face with a closed fist. Witnesses told police Myers dragged his wife by the hair and slapped her across the face. Procopio said it is unclear if Myers punched his wife or slapped her, but he did strike her in the face. Courtney Knight, 26, who witnessed the alleged attack, said in an interview today that Myers was out of control. "It was disgusting," Knight said. "He was dragging her by the hair and slapping her across the face. She was yelling, 'I'm not going to let you do this to me anymore.' " Knight said the 6-foot-4 ballplayer dwarfs his wife, who the police report said was 5 foot 4 and 120 pounds. "She's a real small girl," Knight said. "It was awful." Myers allegedly told Knight and her friends to leave and resisted when they tried to pull him off of his wife, prompting Knight to call police. She said Myers was undeterred by the presence of her and her two friends. "He had her on the ground. He was trying to get her to go, and she was resisting," Knight said. "She curled up and sat on the ground. He was pulling her, her shirt up was around her neck....He could have cared less that we were there." The player was arguing with his wife because he wanted to return to their hotel and she did not, a woman who was with Myers and his wife told police. Myers is slated to pitch against Curt Schilling at Fenway Park tomorrow. The police report says that officers found Kim Myers crying and with swelling on the left side of her face. The victim bailed her husband out, posting $200 in bail at the South End police station early this morning, Procopio said. According to a Major League Baseball website, Myers married his wife in 2002 and they have a 3-year-old daughter.
  8. QUOTE (Wagz @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 06:44 PM) That is a bastard and he deserved to go to jail. Until he gets traded to the White Sox.
  9. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 06:24 PM) I've had police try to convince my girlfriend that I hit her for no particular reason before so the "she was swollen at the time but didn't bruise" thing didn't fly with me. The description they gave of both being too drunk makes me wonder if it is as clean-cut as people would like it to see. I've seen a woman drunkenly batter a man physically and verbally and to think he won't retaliate in kind when super drunk is not as unreasonable as simple "wife-beater." But then again, both of us are speculating, aren't we? You're just eager to to pass judgment when the guy probably just got too rough while drunkenly arguing with his girl. He almost certainly made a bad mistake, but I can't be sure that it's as bad or simple as described and I don't think it is fair to convict the non-convicted in this case. I guess because he is now a White Sox you want to ignore the witnesses. There was more than one, and it wasn't like they were trying to take a professional athlete down, they had no idea who he was. If people now want to look the other way with this idiot because he's now on your favorite team, I suggest you quit watching sports for a while. Its affecting your judgement. And one question, if this was just an isolated incident where really nothing happened, why have they been going to counseling for years over domestic violence? Guys that hit women are losers. Brett Myers is a loser.
  10. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 06:13 PM) I've heard all the reports and I don't know what to believe. Nobody was ever convicted is all I know. I'll let the man play baseball and I assume KW asked around the clubhouse to see what kind of teammate he is. OJ wasn't convicted of murder either. The Meyers case went exactly as most domestic abuse cases go. There is no excuse to hit your wife.
  11. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 05:58 PM) so if your at the game or watching on tv and brett is in to save the game, what are you going to do? youre not going to want him to get the job done? I want the Sox to win. I certainly won't be praising him if he gets the job done.
  12. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 05:44 PM) Axelrod sent to Charlotte That's surprising to me. Not that its a big loss. Who is going to be the long man? Might need one tomorrow.
  13. QUOTE (Wagz @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 05:39 PM) It helps alot of our pitching needs and if Houston sends us cash we will be in great shape. Brett messed up one time and thats all you know. His wife did not even have brusing and Brett is no little guy. I want to say that he messed up and we should forgive him because it was 6 years ago and not reoccuring. We dont know if he has done it again or in the past. Maybe he has anger issues and has solved them considering we have not heard of another incident like this. I'd like to see if he went to therapy or something after the incident with his wife. The police found her crying with a swollen cheek. The guy hit his wife in public. You may want to believe it was the only time he's ever abused a woman, but the odds are heavily against it. I know players are not all saints and probably most are total assholes, but guys who hit women are cowards and aren't going to be getting any respect from me. Ever. I'm just fascinated at all the posters who will defend him now that he's a White Sox. During his career, he's been beat up worse than he beat his wife by AL teams 5.64 ERA, near .900 OPS against. Great move KW.
  14. QUOTE (Brian26 @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 04:19 PM) 1 Peavy 2 Sale 3 Quintana 4 Floyd 5 Humber Bullpen 6 Myers 7 Reed 8 Thornton 9 Santiago 10 Jones 11 Axelrod 12 Septimo? Omogrosso and Veal back to minors? Personally, I like Veal more than Septimo, but I'm not sure the White Sox do.
  15. Tomorrow is a real big game. Sox will either have the lead or 1.5 behind and swept with Peavy and Sale and facing a guy with a 10.00 ERA game 3. They have to start scoring some runs again. Maybe tomorrow is when it begins.
  16. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 03:21 PM) This is a pretty savvy move. Seems like there isn't enough info for us to pass judgement on the wife incident, I'll trust KW to have done his homework. Thdre were only many witnesses that saw him beat the s*** out of her on the street.
  17. The other thing about it is at this point he's not very good. I think this is a disgusting move.
  18. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 04:35 PM) Adam Dunn. Such a fearsome #3 hitter. Nice job, big man. Way to get it started. Adam is a good offensive player but his. 203 average suggests he is not a good hitter. The 3 hole is supposed to be for your best hitter.
  19. QUOTE (northside sawx @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 02:57 PM) Punching your wife now equals serial enabling child molestation??? Come on, man. I've made several huge mistakes in my life too. And I can honestly say with out second chances I would not be posting this right now. Beating women is as disgusting as it gets. Using the wife forgives him is silly battered wives almost always take the blame and anyone giving j4l crap about saying its most likely happened more than once, obviously has never read or watched anything on the subject. I am willing to cheer for a lot of flawed people, but wife beaters aren't among them.
  20. Wife beater's are really hard to cheer for.
  21. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 08:02 AM) The Sox are all professionals, and they know that these series 90 games into the season don't mean s***. You want to win every game against the Tigers and you'd like to always be in first place, but there's a lot of baseball ahead of us. "Biggest series of the season" is a tremendous overstatement with all of the games left to play. The guys on the team are just trying to win because wins are good, not because their fans get too worked up over every divisional game. They also know that there a few guys on offense not clicking, we're short two starters, and our bullpen is full of unfamiliar names. Some of that will change and the sky won't be falling anymore. I disagree. This is a huge series. If the Sox win 2 out of 3 they keep the Tigers off their back and maybeput some doubts in their minds, while perhaps building more confidence in themselves. If they get swept, it could all go south in a hurry. Head to head and division games are always important. And the White Sox think its a huge series too. That's why Crane is going to be activated without a rehab assignment.
  22. QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ Jul 20, 2012 -> 12:18 PM) sneak preview of the 2013-2014 season Dick's is going to have to put theirs where you put it.
  23. Blaming Ozzie for Rios not playing hard is just as ridiculous as any praise Greg continues to throw Ozzie's way. Alex is supposed to be professional. Playing hard should be assumed. I am glad he's playing hard now. .
  24. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 08:07 PM) Both pitchers can make it, but neither can make a bad pitch to power hitters with 2 men on base. One of them has done it twice in 4 innings, the other has hardly done it. I will not be voting for Pedro.
