  1. QUOTE (Tannerfan @ Jul 15, 2012 -> 08:53 PM) I'm just scared we'd give up to much to get him. If the price is Viciedo I say no way. Someone will give up a prospect the Sox don't have for Dempster. I think KW brings in a guy like Bartolo Colon. Maybe the third time is a charm.
  2. QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Jul 15, 2012 -> 01:37 AM) I think that the Bulls having had Michael Jordan play for them may have been both a blessing and a curse. I am wondering if, with the way that the NBA is going right now with your "Big 3/4s" that none of the current stars want to come to Chicago because, in their mind,(and maybe some Bulls fans) the standard is automatically 6 rings. Most think that Jordan is the GOAT. How can you follow that? Whether we want to believe it or not, any Bull is playing in Jordan's shadow until probably 2020 or 2025, when most of the players who were kids in the 90s are out of the league. There may be a hangover a little bit after that due to the aging vets talking about this guy Michael Jordan. I think that Rose's agent is going to convince him to leave after his next contract is up to get a ring. The winters here don't help either. The Bulls are in NBA hell, and they need more star power. That is going to come one of 3 ways: 1. Free agency 2. Lottery picks. 3. Trading Noah/Deng for one. Given that: a) it seems that NBA stars don't want to play for the Bulls and b) a smart GM would rather have cap space and a bad team for his superstar rather then Noah/Deng, I guess tanking is the only way that Forman/Paxon are going to get it done. It seems that these guys are flocking to warm weather cities with no or very little winning history, and it will be interesting what happens to the Lakers when Kobe Bryant retires. If he gets another ring, maybe they stay away from there and go to the Clippers instead, because of their non winning ways up until this point. The way it looks is that Dallas, Miami, Houston, LAC and maybe NY (who hasn't won a title since the early 70s, s,o the first team to bring the Knicks a title may be embraced by NYC, and it is NYC), LAL, (who knows, maybe KB won't scare them off like MJ did for the Bulls) Brooklyn($$$$$ that their owner is willing to throw around) and Boston(because of the winning tradition and the last of those who watched Bird and co. as a kid are exiting the league over the next few years) will be the new powers in the NBA. I have an idea on how to fix the NBA, but I'm not willing to share it quite yet. Quite frankly, If NBA stars continue to go somewhere that isn't a) cold(that isn't NYC/BOS) and b) where they have to follow a winning legacy, then they are spoiled brats and wimps. I don't buy that at all. I do think weather plays a role although NYC isn't exactly balmy in the winter but is usually warmer than Chicago. Plus, there is more going on there. Why would they want to go to LA? First Magic, then Kobe. Why Boston with Bird, then Garnett. The Bulls had Jordan and Pippen, but afterward had the worst 4 year stretch in NBA history. Players have taken their money, they are trying to stay out of the luxury tax. Its some luck and some timing being able to get stars from other teams.
  3. QUOTE (soxmaniac! @ Jul 15, 2012 -> 02:24 PM) My bad chief, but it was more of an adjective rather than a nickname. Now apologize to me. I don't know how you can come up with that particular word when the White Sox never made him an offer.
  4. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 15, 2012 -> 03:10 PM) Sale has given up 8 hits in 7 innings but what';s is impressive is the no walks. Gotta love this kid. He might be a keeper 8 hits in 7 innings? What happened to his ace "stuff"?
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 15, 2012 -> 02:57 PM) Is Floyd hurt? You can't win a division tossing those 3 guys out on the mound. His elbow is swollen, but the MRI showed no damage. I hope JR got a Groupon for MRI's. The Sox seem to be sending someone in for one almost every week.
  6. Axelrod, Humber, Castro, the Sox better win today. Its going to be tough the next 3 days.
  7. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jul 15, 2012 -> 11:59 AM) David Kaplan ‏@thekapman Baseball sources tell me they expect Ryan Dempster to definitely be moved before his next start + White Sox are not at all in play for him.. They don't have the prospects the Cubs are looking for, besides I'd be really worried acquiring a guy with 33 consecutive scoreless innings that isn't a Cy Young candidate most seasons. He's due to start getting rocked, and moving to the AL he may get rocked harder.
  8. I don't think the Sox could or would meet the asking price for Dempster.
  9. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 14, 2012 -> 03:32 PM) Why does it bother you so much what I think about this player or that player? I could not care less that you think Youkilis is washed up. Nice one Marty, now go back to my posts. I had no problem with them getting Youkilis for nothing. When the rumors were Floyd or Thornton, I had a problem, and as great as Youkilis has been, its against the odds that he will be able to finish the rest of the season healthy and effective. Hopefully he does, but I've never seen a guy with so many downer posts and thread starters when the team expected to be pretty bad, is in first place. I wonder who will have a bad game tonight that will need to be replaced.
  10. QUOTE (RZZZA @ Jul 14, 2012 -> 02:27 PM) Flowers is still on our team? interesting... Looks like Flowers has become Peavy's personal catcher.
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 14, 2012 -> 02:22 PM) Will tonight's game be blacked out because of the FOX Saturday game thing? If your provider carries MLB extra innings, there's a free preview until next Friday. It won't be blacked out. I think the Fox 6 pm games are over for a while. Its back to 3 pm.
  12. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 14, 2012 -> 12:16 PM) I don't see how anyone who has seen Reed pitch this year can say he is fine as a closer for a team that is trying to win something. His stuff hasn't been as advertised. Where is the slider? Maybe this is another case to be cautious about relievers with dominant sliders. The guy is a rookie averaging over a strikeout an inning with about a .650 OPS against him. Is there any White Sox worth having on the roster? My buddy and I went to a game a few years ago with a guy who complained the entire time. This guy can't pitch, that guy can't hit, the manager can't manage.....the entire game. The Sox wound up winning. We went to Jimbo's after the game and the guy mentioned what a great time he had. My buddy and I just looked at each other. I'm thinking you're probably similar. For a team that needs a closer, a top of the rotation starter, has a LF who isn't worth the wait, a SS who needs to go, they sure are doing fine.
  13. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 14, 2012 -> 10:36 AM) To some extent it doesn't matter, but you don't want to end up paying 50 million dollars in a single season to keep your backup center around, all while being unable to acquire free agents. I think JR would pay enormous taxes if he thought it was keeping a championship caliber team together. Paying these taxes to keep a run-of-the-mill backup center around is NOT the point of running a profitable franchise. Your front office has to be able to replace the Asik's of the world just as cheaply as he was acquired so you can invest in players that are harder to pull out of thin air. But that's not the case here. The Bulls were planning on matching Asik when it was assumed he'd get about $5 million a year. The only time this deal hampers what they were planning on doing is in year 3 when they are on the hook an additional $10 million. I understand Asiks value defensively, and he does set some screens offensively, but we all know the chances of him ever being worth $15 million are Chris Sale slim. My point is, the tax shouldn't be the issue, the issue should be how it hinders the Bulls making moves after the 2013-2014 season. If he's tradeable, and it won't hinder your movement or you can get a really nice player ,you might as well bring him back . If it means they can't bring in a guy like Kevin Love, then its a no brainer not to match.
  14. Why is everyone so concerned about the luxury tax? Be more concerned about how it handcuffs you with other moves. The Bulls have said JR will pay the tax, its not like its going to break them. They, according to Forbes, are one of the NBA's most profitable teams. They have averaged a $55 million profit a year for the last 5 years. And except for the winning, they ironic for JR, are the Cubs of the NBA. People will go no matter what. When they had the worst 4 year record in NBA history, they still were top 5 or 6 in attendance.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 13, 2012 -> 02:39 PM) He sure hated Brian Anderson for it, if you believe the rumors. If he hated Anderson I don't think it was for partying. It may be he didn't take his job seriously, which may have been caused by partying, I have no idea. I do know the Sox were miffed when they tried to change some things with his swing and he refused. But I don't think it was for stealing Oney's chicks.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 13, 2012 -> 11:06 AM) McCarthy intrigues me. Knowing a lot of the Guillen history, I really wonder if he was moved because Ozzie didn't like him. He was a young pup, going out to clubs with everyone's favorite communist Brian Anderson. I wonder if there is something there that would prevent the Sox from being interested, besides the obvious injury issues. I'm no Ozzie apologist, but if there's one manager who wouldn't hold it against someone for going out and having a good time after a game, its him.
  17. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 13, 2012 -> 02:24 PM) Sure, but why the switch from Heath to Marinez, both RHP, w/o seeing Heath at the MLB level? A week later they decide they like Marinez better? I'm thinking they thought Crain or Bruney would be available. When the weren't they couldn't recall Heath because he wasn't down long enough.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 01:50 PM) So I assume Bears games will be empty this year? Chris De Luca ‏@ChrisDeLuca $49 for #Bears tailgate parking. Thats for the parking by McCormick Place you hop on a school bus to Soldier Field. If you want to park right by Soldier Field, I think its at least $75.
  19. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 03:21 PM) Meh. I was always a fan of the Robert Taylor skyline they had until 2007. Around the 4th of July there usually were a couple of nice fireworks shows inside some Robert Taylor units. Hindsight, but they should have built the park around Roosevelt and the river. There was a ton of vacant land right there.Red Line, Orange Line, Green Line right there. Easy commute from the metra train stations, and nice short trip for people working downtown after work. Could have built a nice riverwalk and had the field open to the skyline. It would have been quite an attraction. That said, the park is very nice, and really nothing to complain about. As far as value goes, if you're there to watch a game, infield upper deck premium boxes are the best deal without codes. That's the best bang for your buck watching a game.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 06:53 PM) They haven't been able to find any actual major damage. Exactly what are they supposed to diagnose without it? Whether they can see damage or not, rest isn't working, which would indicate there is some damage IMO. Eventually it gets found. For Danks, the Sox and us, the sooner the better. Injuries aren't always easily spotted on exams. KW called Lorenzo Barcelo a p**** because he wouldn't pitch through some pain and they could find anything wrong with him. Eventually he had elbow and shoulder surgeries.
  21. I'm no doctor, but the way Danks' shoulder has responded to rest indicates to me there is something more severe than previously thought. This is going nowhere near like we were lead to believe. Its almost time for a towel drill.
  22. I had season tickets in the club level sec 329. IMO, the best seats in the park. There is a bar down the LF line. The concourse is heated and air conditioned depending on the weather. They have concession stands and other stands like a dessert cart, but you can order from your seats, you do have a server, and if you plan to be dropping some money, you can run a tab. Its a Levy menu, not Sportservice, so it is a higher quality. One thing I would beware of is if you're going to be drinking beer, the first one of the night is usually pretty flat. I think its probably from the keg from a previous game. I would get a bottle first and then they should be on to the fresh stuff when you are ready for $2.
  23. I'm very upset I didn't get a chance to see Adam Dunn strike out.
  24. QUOTE (RZZZA @ Jul 10, 2012 -> 06:06 PM) I will assume that Asik is not matched and Taj is resigned. He's not gonna get anything more than 8 mill per year, thats worst case scenario. So Bulls stand to have about $21-$24 million off the cap in 2 years? somewhere around there, correct me if I'm wrong The CSN guy said the Bulls are not matching Asik's offer may go after a Nazr Mohammed.
