  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 11:33 PM) Forget it. The Sox are done. I'd put it at about 99% probability you are correct. If anything else, something very minor like a back up infielder.
  2. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 11:28 PM) Not sure how to take this trade. Liriano could be gone at the end of the season. Escobar was hitting more than Hudson. Hopefully it stabilizes our rotation Escobar isn't a big loss. His defense at the end of games will be missed when a PR is used for Paulie. Hudson will have to spell Youk, that's pretty scary, and I have no idea who the back up SS is. Maybe its Morel.
  3. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 11:24 PM) I wonder if, AJ ever catched for Liriano, when they were on the Giants The were part of the same trade. They were never teammates.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 11:22 PM) The 30th ranked farm system strikes again. You don't trade players much anymore. You trade contracts. If you can eat some money, and the Sox didn't eat a lot, but some, you can get a good deal.
  5. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 11:16 PM) well like they said, good for eduardo though , he'll get a lot of playing time there as apposed to here He did get sent to AAA.
  6. QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 11:15 PM) Looking at the Tigers boards & Indians boards they seem to be brushing this trade off & saying it wasnt an upgrade at all. They must not know about the magic Don Cooper has worked in the past. Not to mention in his last 60 innings hasn't Liriano struck out about 70? His stuff is still there. Perhaps the biggest thing it does, even if Liriano is average, is gets Sale some rest.
  7. The trade, however, was tough for the teary-eyed Escobar, 23, who was consoled by Orlando Hudson and A.J. Pierzynski after the game. Miguel Olivo cried when he was traded to Seattle.
  8. QUOTE (Wanne @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 11:05 PM) at this point you better get something ridiculous if you give up Gavin...can't see it right now. You're putting an awful lot of pressure/depending on Humber. And you DO NOT send Quintana to the bullpen...PERIOD. If Danks was a sure thing coming back by September 1, I could easily see Floyd being gone. But that's not the case. I wonder what you could get for Floyd. The problem is if you trade him, you may need another starter by September.
  9. The Sox so far have given up Lillibridge, who was given up by Boston, Stewart, Escobar and minor league fodder. So really KW has traded away as close to nothing as you can get. The only thing is Escobar is a decent defender, a high energy guy, really liked in the clubhouse. His intanigibles may be missed, but he had 3 RBI. The Sox do need someone to back up at SS. No to Hudson there.
  10. QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 10:54 PM) As odd as it sounds, I would much rather have Liriano over Greinke. If the price was the same, no way. If Humber can be decent, and I was going to start a Phillip Humber is the most worthless pitcher in baseball thread tonight, after seeing what happened after similar threads for Viciedo, Konerko and Beckham have worked in the past, the Sox can go to a 6 man rotation for a while and/or give Sale and Quintana a start off. They needed anther starter. Hopefully Liriano can get the job done. He definitely has the ability, and he's pitching for a contract.
  11. CSN announced the trade just after they showed the Who's Hot/Who's Not segment. Liriano was on the who's not list.
  12. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 10:36 PM) Here's another roster scenario to consider... they start 6 AND have 7 in the pen. Bench of only three: Flowers C and 1B, Hudson skill IF positions, Danks all OF. Not likely, but possible, at least short term. They have to have someone who can play SS.
  13. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 08:22 PM) Glad I don't bet on baseball I think I'd be living in a refrigerator box.
  14. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 08:19 PM) Oh lord. First time I've had Hawk on in a while. This new home run call is terrible. Back to mute you go. IT'S ALL GOOD
  15. If the Sox win this one, it would be stealing one from the sixty you are supposed to lose.
  16. You could see this coming for weeks. I hope he makes a miraculous comeback, but its certainly not looking good.
  17. Ichiro has a lower OPS than Beckham.
  18. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 12:32 PM) f*** Ron Washington and his cocaine. You know what would be cool, if Washington went out to remove a pitcher and stopped and started snorting the first base line.
  19. QUOTE (BlackBetsy @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 12:08 PM) I think the package that the A's got for Swisher (Gio 8.4 WAR, De Los Santos -0.3 WAR, and Sweeney 5.9 WAR Post-White Sox) is better than the package the Marlins got for Cabrera AND Dontrelle Willis (Andrew Miller -2.8 WAR, Badenhop 1.8 WAR, De La Cruz -0.9 WAR, Trahern 0.0 WAR, Rabelo -0.5 WAR and Maybin 6.6 WAR) Of course, at the time everybody thought Miller & Maybin would be All-Stars (Maybin actually had a pretty good season last year) so it doesn't look similar at the time. But the Sox prospects have had more major league value by a score of 14 WAR to 4.2 WAR. With hindsight, Florida would have to have taken the Sox package. No. The Sox wouldn't take Willis. That was the hang up. The players were secondary. Trading Cabrera let them out of Willis' contract. They were all about the Benjamins.
  20. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 11:26 AM) Unless the M's don't want to receive too much fan backlash trading him in division and seeing him for so many series per year. I dunno. That's a good point, but the M's are going to suck for a few years anyway, and Felix will be a free agent in a couple of years and could sign with Texas anyway. If they are going to deal him, and when you think about it, they probably should, they have to go with the best package of prospects. KW can't come close to what Texas can throw at the M's. It is interesting that supposedly now the Rangers aren't too high on Josh Johnson. That could be gamesmanship or it could be gospel. I'd love the Sox to acquire Felix, but I don't know why they would want guys who are already on the arb clock.
  21. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 11:14 AM) My co-worker is old friends with KWs oldest son. Apparently, King Felix is in play. As long as Texas is still looking for a starter, I think the best the Sox can do is place in the King Felix sweepstakes.
  22. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 05:39 PM) Will you believe in Beckham at 4M per? Because that's going to be his salary next year. No chance.
  23. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 03:59 PM) I'm glad were all in agreement that if you dont rape any kids, you should be punished. Last I checked, the current players still get to keep their scholarships, so they get a free education which really is why they are supposed to be in college in the first place. The team is still going to play games. Not bowl games for a while. If the current players don't like it, they are free to go elsewhere and be eligible to play right away. Football became too important in Happy Valley. Hopefully, these sanctions will eventually lead to more people realizing that some things are more important than PSU's football record.
  24. QUOTE (scenario @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 09:35 AM) I don't think the velocity drop is due to a physical problem. I think it's intentional to help him last longer into the season. It could be intentional but I don't think so due to he was getting tatooed around in the first inning yesterday. Young guys holding back, getting hit hard, tend to throw a 95 MPH fastball or two to get out of trouble if they have it available. There were more than a few who think its a dead arm, and that, hopefully, is all it is.
  25. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 10:39 AM) we're already probably giving away the game with humber today then skip sale on wed? we face diamond so that would be giving away another game. the race is too close to be doing this, definitely need another starter I don't think there's any question they need another starter.
