Adam Dunn Trade rumor thread
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 10:00 PM) The Dunn move demands another move for a pitcher. The good thing about that kind of a deal is that the one of Danks/Morel that you don't trade can be flipped for the arm in question. If all the rumors are true, probably what KW is weighing is if he can get another pitcher, or if he can't can a guy like gulp, Marquez, give you what Hudson is going to give you the rest of the year. If he thinks that its a 6.00 ERA and 5 innings a start, I think he pulls the trigger. Trading Hudson could be a real mistake. He's not in the easiest position right now and plenty of real good pitchers started slowly in their careers. I wonder if KW would dangle Viciedo out there. There's a lot to like there and a lot you have to wonder about. He has to be able to take a walk eventually. I always hoped he turned into Carlos Lee offensively, which is possible. He may be like Delmon Young, a guy would wouldn't walk and many considered a bust but who has had a sweet season and is only 24 or 25. Or he may be a guy they figure out how to get out and he's a bust. People talk about Smoak being a high pick and a great prospect and he netted Cliff Lee. Viciedo was given a $5 million bonus and a $5-6 million more for 4 year. He can't be thought of too much less of a potential stud hitter than Smoak can he?

White Sox Trade Catch-All
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 09:47 PM) Brett Myers deserves so much more love on the trade market than he's getting. He looks sensational on the mound this season. Nice pitcher, I'm just glad I don't have to hope a wife beater pitches well.

Sox make Frank Thomas team ambassador
The side of the new structure on 35th street has been painted white. I have the feeling a Frank Thomas mural is going to be put there.

White Sox Trade Catch-All
QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 05:30 PM) If KW could get Dunn and Grienke.. man that would be orgasmic.. If he could do that, it would mean he has successfully hidden 3 or 4 top prospects for the last couple of years.

Sox make Frank Thomas team ambassador
QUOTE (IceCreamPants @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 02:30 PM) Ambassador= FIAL Its just a made up title from what I seen. Its laughable....just saying. True. Fisk was named an ambassador a couple of years ago. Even he didn't know exactly what that meant, and he hasn't been doing anything White Sox-related since.

Per Sam Smith: The Bulls still need one more good looking perimeter scoring threat, preferably someone who can make a three-pointer when it matters against the likes of contenders like Miami, Orlando and Boston. The Bulls believe come playoff time they can be in that conversation. Can McGrady help them? Well, that Tracy McGrady of 2000 could, but this Tracy McGrady? The one who has had serious knee surgery to the point he couldn’t play consecutive games with the Knicks last season and they didn’t want him back, who was run out of Houston, essentially by his teammates for his disruptive attitude, and, of course, his own history of quitting on various teams and coaches, including Doc Rivers and his Orlando Magic, where in Orlando they still refer to McGrady in the media as “Me-Mac?” But can a person change, especially if he’s near career death? McGrady’s basketball career is at that point, and maybe he has had the epiphany and will devote himself one time to the greater good rather than his personal agenda. He has seen the light! He’s on a mission! At least that’s what McGrady’s benefactors insist. The Bulls merely are interested onlookers for now, likely doing a favor for McGrady’s agent, who also represents Derrick Rose. My sense is McGrady has a lot of persuading to do as the internal consensus at this point seems opposed to taking the chance on McGrady.

Adam Dunn Trade rumor thread
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 02:45 PM) I assumed he was being groomed to eventually be our closer. If he goes who closes for us next year? Thornton, maybe they re-sign Putz. With Sale being used in the bullpen, and Putz going in the 7th yesterday, it tells me the closer of the future right now is Thornton.

If you dealt Santos, you move Pena into his role and make Torres or someone like that the long man. Santos has a ton of potential but losing him this season really isn't a huge blow. He is rarely used in key situations.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 10:22 PM) If T-Mac got Comeback Player of the Year, the Bulls would have an amazing season. If the Bulls signed TMac and he won that award, it would probably mean DRose got hurt. They are a huge mismatch playing together. TMac is a half court player.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 05:17 PM) He has plenty of leverage if he simply tells a team that he won't sign with them if they trade for him. You're right, he'll get a max contract somewhere...but there's no reason to trade for him if he's said he won't sign with you. You do realize, his top destination, Orlando, is way over the cap, into luxury tax. He won't be able to sign there either. This is the NBA, when he becomes a FA, his options, if he wants to get paid, will be extremely limited.

GT: White Sox @ A's 7/25, 3:05 CT, CSN
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 04:28 PM) Scouts are very rarely influenced by how a rookie pitcher's totals against major league hitters look. They're vastly more interested in what the guy is throwing. He's had trouble throwing strikes.

The Brewers have a scout at today's game. I doubt he's impressed. I really think Hudson will be pretty good if he ever stops walking guys.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 04:05 PM) No, it'd be like Fielder telling the team that it'll take 8/$225 to extend him and the Yankees offering more than any other team because they know they can afford him at that price. Paul's going to get a max contract no matter where he goes. If the rules stay the same and he wants to go somewhere else for less, good for him, but he has zero leverage, and players telling teams to trade them and telling them where to trade them will ruin the league if it is allowed to happen.

Prince Fielder Speculation
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 03:11 PM) Why do people keep thinking the Nats would be angry if they offered Dunn Arbitration and he accepted? Ignore for a moment the fact that he's talking about 4 years and $50 million or so...if he accepted, so he winds up on a 1 year, $13 million deal. Basically, that means the Nats get another full year of production from Dunn and have to absorb zero of the risk of signing him to a long term deal, and if they are unable to put together a winning team next year, then his contract is just as moveable as this year, and maybe they even get a better offer next year because KW has Sale and Mitchell available as trade pieces. There is absolutely zero downside to the Nats offering him arbitration. They'd be HAPPY if he accepted. Unless he just nosedives, he'd probably get $15 million in arb. Taking that and going into the same process next year is taking a lot for granted. One that Dunn's production will remain the same, another that he will remain healthy and yet another that teams will be in position to pick up $7 million or so to pay him from the end of July through the rest of the season. Of course, that's all assumming they really don't think they have a shot to win next year. If they think they have a legit shot, then I would agree, but if its still part of rebuilding, I would think they would prefer the developed prospects and the probably $10 million + savings the next calendar year.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 03:17 PM) CP3 still is basically an expiring contract at the end of this year if you assume the lockout. If the Clippers (I'll just use them as a proxy for the least desirable team possible) were to give up the farm for him...if he didn't want to be there, they'd get a grand total of 1 season out of him before the lockout and FA hit for him. It's no different than the Brewers trading Fielder right now and the Sox not wanting to trade for him if they don't think they can extend him. Its totally different. It would be like Fielder telling Milwaukee he wanted to be traded and also telling them which team to trade him to. Assumming the lockout, you would also probably have to assume the new CBA will be different, and might behoove a guy like Paul from demanding a trade now. I read somewhere where one aspect of the new agreement may be a sort of franchise tag like they have in the NFL. Paul might be stuck where he didn't want to be.

Prince Fielder Speculation
Type A compensation is nice but a couple of factors have to be thought of. First you have to offer arb. which means a healthy raise. Does a team that probably can't win next year really want to do that if there's a decent chance its accepted? Secondly, you have to draft players and give them healthy bonuses. Then you have to spend money to develop them. I'd much rather get a guy you have an even better idea about, who has been developed a little bit and has already been given his bonus.

Juan Pierre
Pierre should never get a GG because part of OF defense is throwing, and teams take extra bases on him at will.

July White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 08:14 PM) The problem is that you are forcing it into the conversation now, which is total bulls***. Asking "chw are you trying to build a case where if and when we lose the division we can all simply say, "It's Bobby Jenks' fault!"" followed by "Not flaming. Just asking" followed by "Thats pretty f***ing stupid" is starting a argument where there was none. How about you quit feeling like you have to defend every iota of Bobby Jenks being and start discussing other topics without feeling like you need to ask if people are subtly taking shots at Bobby. Or even better, being able to admit when Bobby f***s up and saying "You know what? He sucked tonite" and leave it at that. There are overreactionary people that feel like a few bad outings dooms a player, and there are overreactionary people on the other end of the spectrum such as you that can never admit when a bad outing happens. Then there are the gray area people such as myself who can see the bigger picture and can understand that at some point either we have to s*** or get off the pot with jenks. The problem that I have with everything you have been saying is that everyone that doesnt worship the ground that Jenks walks on(such as yourself) is grouped into one big "insane messageboard people" list by you. If you havent noticed, Ozzie is starting to get a bit queasy with his closer as well and the message is out there that if he cannot get it done, there are two other big arms in the bullpen that can. Ozzie should be queasy. Jenks has been consistently poor this year outside of June. His ERA was 5.00 in April, almost 8.00 in May and almost 10.00 in July. Last season he wasn't exactly stellar either, now he thinks just because he gets paid $7.5 million, he really doesn't have to prove himself, he already did 5 years ago. I wonder who will be number 45 on the White Sox next year. BTW, word is Detroit is hot for Adam Dunn now that Maggs is out.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 10:10 AM) Apparently we're at the top of CP3's list now according to Broussard. Deal being rumored is Nelson, VC, Ryan Anderson + 1st round picks for CP3 and Posey. Portland is the wildcard team in all of this I'd say though. But us getting CP3 means Miami vs. Orlando Eastern Conference Finals for the next 5 years probably. Why would that matter? Has it come to this in the NBA that not only do you get your wish to be traded when under contract, they actually are supposed to trade you to the place you want to go most? Its ridiculous. Paul is being repped by Lebron's guys now. If he gets his supposed wish, the NBA will be in a lot of trouble in a couple of years. Personally, I hope if they trade Paul, I hope they send him to the least desirable place he wants to go. The Hornets still have the upper hand here.

I don't think there's a chance in hell the Sox trade for Fielder in the next week. I think they threw that out there to let Rizzo know or think they had other options, and weren't married to the idea of acquiring Dunn.

Adam Dunn Trade rumor thread
QUOTE (spiderman @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 01:08 PM) This person who works with the Phillies knows what the White Sox, Astros and Nationals are doing? I'm sure its just speculation based on the info they have. If Adam Dunn replaces Kotsay in the line up and they don't lose any other major league parts, there's a pretty good chance the Sox win the division comfortably, which is important in the fact it lets you set up your playoff rotation and can give your bullpen the proper rest.

Dan Haren traded to the Angels
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 08:46 AM) In the playoffs all you need is a solid 1-2-3 and you can probably get by pitching only those guys for the entire run. As long as Floyd-Danks-Buerhrle stay on track and the Garcia and Hudson don't implode they'll be fine. Having Peavy in the mix was a bonus, not a necessity. Of course, this entire argument is predicated on us getting another bat to fill the void, but whatever. Last year's playoff schedule was a joke, and you're right, all you needed was 3 starters, if that. They supposedly have tweaked that this year. Peavy is a huge loss, but if Garcia holds up, the Sox could get away with it if they make the playoffs especially if the bullpen comes through. Some more offense would help.
