When is Hawk going to talk about momentum for tomorrow's game?

This is unbelievable.

You look at his numbers and you wouldn't see anything that would indicate this, but Jenks seems to make things interesting more often than not lately.

The Padres claimed Charlie Haeger. I bet he has a better career than Broadway or Richard.

QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 07:47 PM) Swisher was toast once he hit 0-2. Swisher is toast if he's ever 0-1. He's hitting .159 with a .433 OPS on at bats where he was down 0-1 this year.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 08:59 PM) Props to Uribe on his performance today. Its a good thing KW didn't take your advice and get rid of him for nothing.

White Sox Winner !
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 09:15 PM) Why would anyone feel stupid when a player was as bad as he was. Anyone who said he was terrible was 100 percent correct, he was terrible. Thank god its only taken him 2 seasons to snap out of it. You said he was washed up. Now you want him batting 4th. You're Karl Rove and Bill O'Reilly all mashed into one.

Carlos Quentin has a broken wrist
All that really matters is Linebrink needs to be good again and in a hurry, Danks must get back to where he was, Buerhle needs to step it up, Vazquez has to stay where he's been the past few starts, Floyd must continue to battle and they better get something out of Richard. With Griffey in CF, their jobs become a little more difficult.

Giangrecco said Crede has left the team.

Carlos Quentin has a broken wrist
As crazy as this sounds, if Linebrink can regain his earlier form, I think the Sox are better without Quentin than they were without Linebrink. Of course its not as strong as they would be with both. Griffey is going to have to earn his paycheck.

I blame Herm Schneider.

Carlos Quentin has a broken wrist
QUOTE (daa84 @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 01:15 PM) so any chance he plays in the playoffs if we get there? can I know griffey played right in cincy, but can he play left for us? Believe me, Swisher will be in LF and Griffey in CF.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 01:08 PM) Bruce Levine confirms Quentin is out for the season. So he's in tonight's line-up? Seriously, Quentin getting drilled as much as he does really elevates the possibility of this type of thing happening. Its the one thing you have to be concerned about with him, and its been in earlier threads. He needs as much armour as possible from here on out, unless he's going to change his approach.

I wonder how pissed off at the umpires Hawk would be if one of the Indians missed getting hit by a pitch by as far as Ramirez did and they let him take a base.

That's just sad. This is a huge game and Ozzie has a AAA player batting during a possible game changing moment. If Owens deserved to hit there, then they should have called him up a long time ago. At least during a time when he was eligible for the postseason.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Sep 2, 2008 -> 07:28 PM) How did my statement have anything to do with anything but our minor league instruction. Your b****ing as the Sox are getting shut down during a major league game. Which player(s) in the White Sox system would be good major leaguers if you were their hitting coach? The problem with the White Sox minor league system has a lot more to do with lack of talent than anything else. Ryan Sweeney was once a hot prospect, but how many people b****ed about his lack of home runs? You are so hung up with "lift and pull" which you have now changed to "Borchard swing", you're just wrong.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Sep 2, 2008 -> 06:14 PM) Our organization believes that hitters are finished products, and they should work on hitting the ball hard. The rest of the baseball part should of been covered in college and high school. They model all swings after Joe Borchard. And make sure we trade away all players that have any resemblance of a line drive swing. I look at the line-up and see Swisher in LF, not a product of the White Sox organization, Owens in CF, a semi-product of the White Sox organization, but certainly not with a "Borchard swing", Dye in RF, not a White Sox product. Crede at 3rd, perhaps you have an argument there, Cabrera at SS, not a product of the White Sox organization, Ramirez at 2B, his first year in the USA, Konerko at 1b, not a product of the White Sox organization, Pierzynski at C, a product of Minnesota, and Thome at DH not a product of the White Sox organization. If you have a beef, it should be with KW for acquiring players that play a way you don't like. Evidently there are several other organizations that must teach the "Borchard swing" if your statement has any validity, which I believe it doesn't.

Nick Swisher Handshakes/Celebrations
QUOTE (kageman129 @ Sep 2, 2008 -> 01:46 PM) Can anyone give me website links or videos of Nick Swisher's handshakes and celebrations? My bowling season is starting up today and I wanna try to have a pumped up team and have a lot of fun, so I thought some of his handshakes or jumps or whatever would be fun. Any help would be amazing. I have been searching online for awhile and can't come up with much . . . Thanks guys! No, but there is a 15 second clip on youtube of all his hits this season.

CC: Hit - No Hit ~ You Make The Call
It probably was an error, but to give it to him would be wrong IMO. I've seen worse called hits. How does anyone know the game would have gone the same way had CC had the pressure of a no hitter on his mind?

Positive Paulie Thread
Paulie was banged up all season and finally got healthy. He's still an offensive force in the major leagues, not the washed up .200 hitter a lot of people thought.

5th Starter
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 28, 2008 -> 04:04 PM) Papelbon, Valverde, Soria, Sherril, Gregg, Wood, Capps, Saito. All been made full time closers within 3 seasons. Those teams didnt have hard times finding closers. I would argue that Poreda may be our closer in waiting. But if starters are more valuable than closers, why move Poreda to the closer role? Poreda's major league career =? Jenks as a starter=?. Jenks as a closer= elite. I see no reason to mess with it. How many elite closers with zero track record of success as a starter have been converted to one the past 20 years?

5th Starter
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 28, 2008 -> 01:38 PM) So you are going back to the line of thinking that he is the same pitcher that was a starter in the Angels organization over 4 years ago? (FYI his last healthy season in the minors as a starter has him going 7-2 with a 2.17 ERA) He has already taken his foot off the gas and actually has added several pitches that work well with the batters making contact. This is pretty evident in his k/9 dropping consistenly over the last few seasons 11.44-10.34-7.75-5.20 He arguably has the best stuff on our staff today. Closers are fairly easy to find these days and we may have one in waiting in Aaron Poreda. And the KROD argument doesnt make any sense at all, not really sure why you put it in there. Why is it that nobody can think outside of the box on this site anymore? There's thinking outside the box and craziness. Some pitchers are more valuable as closers. Bullpens are becoming more important every season. Although there's a possibility he could become an ace, as I stated, he's never pitched more than 123 innings in a season and he hit 109 one year, the only 2 he's been in triple figures. The up and down argument really doesn't apply to him in the bullpen because he is a closer. Its very rare he warms up and sits down and warms up again. But even if he did, wouldn't he have to do that 6 or 7 times a game if he was a starter? He's a closer. If it ain't broke........................ I'm sure Dempster's success has given you this idea, but remember, Dempster was a starter most of his major league career. He's pitched more than 200 innings more than once.

5th Starter
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 28, 2008 -> 12:22 PM) So you dont think he'd be a good starter? May I ask why? Do you think he doesnt have the stuff of our other guys? Doesnt know how to pitch as well? Doesnt have the mental makeup? He hasn't been as successful as a starter and if he became one he would have to take his foot off the gas a little bit. Moving Dempster to the rotation made sense because he had at least some success as a starter before, was a mediocre to bad closer and they had replacements several replacements. Why mess with success? Its not about stuff or mental make-up, although Bobby's "stuff" would probably not seem as good over 6 innings as it does for one, plus he has a scrwew in his elbow. He's an elite closer. Maybe the Sox should sign KRod and put him in their rotation. Its a crazy idea.

5th Starter
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 28, 2008 -> 10:29 AM) Good starters are more valuable than relievers correct? Take out your point of his elbow which none of us know much about and many opinions state that its better for the pitchers arm to throw on regular rest. Lets say Jenks came out and had a Ryan Dempster type year, then would it be worth it? He's had the workload before, he just wasnt a pitcher, he was a thrower who didnt have command nor any knowhow on how to use his stuff. And the reason its being considered is because this is a message board. Jenks has throw over 100 innings twice as a pro with 123 being his high in a season. It would be insane to move him into the rotation not only because he's at best a question mark as a starter both performance-wise and physically, but it also would weaken a bullpen significantly.
