  1. At least they didn't waste a great pitching or offensive performance. Come back tomorrow and beat them.
  2. QUOTE (stretchstretch @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 09:46 PM) c'mon Paulie, break a leg, no I mean literally break a leg so Swisher can replace you full time............ That's real nice. Karma will get you. What is it about Swisher's .226 average that excites you so much? Its only .013 better than Paulie. That's a little more than 1 more hit per 100 AB.
  3. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 07:35 PM) I can't argue with the numbers, but it just seems that Nick has way better ABs than Paulie, even when he makes outs, which is obviously more often than not. We are also better defensively with Swish at 1B and BA in center. March/April, May and July, every month except his outstanding June, Swisher is hitting .195. I don't care how many pitches he sees, he needs to get hits. .195. That's not a guy who should be playing everyday. All I ask is if anyone is going to constantly rail on Konerko, at least have the decency to say KW needs to get a firstbaseman, because Swisher shouldn't be playing either.
  4. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 08:31 PM) Konerko has 2 walks since coming off the DL. Swish has 15 in that time frame. Wow, a guy with 6 career steals whose biggest offensive weapon is a walk. Face it, if Konerko or Thome performed the exact same way Swisher has, the vultures would be calling for their releases. For some reason Swisher gets a huge pass on this board, just like Vazquez, although the tide is starting to turn on Javy.
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 08:29 PM) Ah, so since swish moved from 1B he is in a slump.....Good to know the team is better with Kong out, thanks for verifying that. If you really believe Swisher would have continued his hot streak if he remained at first base, you are crazier than I thought. He's 0 for his last 15 with 6 k's. If Konerko shouldn't be playing, neither should he. Sorry to say, he's been a huge dissappointment.
  6. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 07:23 PM) Swish is still hitting and getting on base better than Konerko. Since Konerko has come off the DL, Paulie is hitting a pathetic .218 coming into tonight. Swisher, during that same time period, is hitting .180. Yeah, he' still hitting alright.
  7. QUOTE (earthshiner @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 08:21 PM) and konerko is doing his best to make sure we blow this lead. Right. All Paulie's fault.
  8. If Konerko needs to be benched, Swisher should be sitting next to him. Dirty thirty has been horrible. His glove has gone farther than any fair ball he's hit tonight.
  9. I still can't believe Hawk was pissed that homer call was reversed. It wasn't even close.

All for naught. From ESPN.COM: -- Pitcher A.J. Burnett will be sticking with the Toronto Blue Jays. Burnett Asked whether the Blue Jays would deal Burnett before Thursday's trade deadline, general manager J.P. Ricciardi was emphatic. "He's not going anywhere," Ricciardi said before Burnett pitched Monday against Tampa Bay.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 02:42 PM) Anyone who would have any reservations whatsoever about this deal should watch this: http://toronto.bluejays.mlb.com/media/vide...90&c_id=tor ^That's the kind of arm we'd be getting. Obviously you never know what can happen, and we might get AJ just to have his arm fall off two days later, but assuming we picked him up and made it to the playoffs, this is a guy that is capable of shutting any team down on any given night and out-pitching the best there is. His arm is just that freaking good when he's on. A 4.76 ERA this season seems to indicate he isn't on most nights.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 02:34 PM) To be fair, Contreras's stats are influenced alot by his early run. AJ would be better than the COunt of late: June 6.83 ERA July 8.62 ERA. Or last year's 5.57 ERA . This is AJ's first season since 2003 with an ERA over 4. Or maybe just maybe Contreras comes back with no elbow pain and pitches like he did through mid June when his ERA was under 3.00.

Amazing how many people think this would be a great deal for the White Sox. The guy still would have to be paid a lot this year which to us is nothing, but, this year, his ERA and WHIP are higher than Jose Contreras. Soxtalk wanted to replace Contreras with Burnett in 2005, and thank God KW didn't agree.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 02:15 PM) Thats a hell of a deal for us. And we could throw some money at him and make him our back of the rotation guy for the next couple of years. I like it. $13 million or more for a back of the rotation starter who while he has his moments is usually mediocre? I don't think JR would like you much.
  15. Dick Allen replied to DBAHO's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think the team is entitled to picks. Its just like if the contract ended after this season, like every other free agent. Of course you would have to offer arbitration.
  16. Dick Allen replied to DBAHO's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I don't think the Sox would do this.
  17. Let's see, the Red Sox, a team defending their title, wants to rid themselves of this idiot and White Sox fans want him. Why? The White Sox have a LF having a better year than him. Their RF is a better team guy and having a better year. Their DH is a lot more stable than Manny. Sure he's a great hitter, but he also might decide he doesn't feel like playing for a couple of weeks. Manny being Manny is old and tired. If he thinks he'll get $100 million on the open market, boy is he going to be surprised.
  18. I think he might be OK. He was awesome with the White Sox for a while. He did come in Saturday for the Yankees and fan Big Papi. Doesn't get any harder than that. He was a lot more dominating for the White Sox than not. People remember the Boston playoff game, but he was really screwed up then. If his head is on straight, and they use him mostly against lefties, I think he will be a popular member of their bullpen.
  19. Even if the Sox lost 3 out of 4 to Minnesota, they still would be in first place.
  20. For everyone who constantly rails on Konerko and Vazquez, how about Swisher and Vazquez. I know a lot of people here take no stock in pitcher's win/loss records, but you have to find it peculiar that Vazquez was 11-12 when the Sox won 90 games, 15-8 when they lost 90 games and 7-9 on a team that's been in first place most of the year. I wouldn't characterize it as a guy who has to grow a pair necessarily, maybe he's too revved up. Whatever it is, its not good, and needs to be fixed quickly.
  21. QUOTE (Friend of Nordhagen @ Jul 27, 2008 -> 01:55 PM) I hate the guy. But the thing is, I don't really think Javy is all that talented. Sure, he nibbles, which is ridiculous. And his location on pitches is often bad. But the fact is that he hangs an awful lot of breaking pitches, which means that they're basically not breaking. And that's a matter of consistent execution, which IS a reflection of talent. He's had a couple outstanding seasons. I think it shows he has talent. The thing is he does best the worse his team is.
  22. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jul 27, 2008 -> 01:32 PM) Swisher - 4th best OBP on the team, no? Also the value of that trade is getting that much OBP for the money you pay him each year. Making that move instead of Torii allows you to spend a lot more in the next year to improve other positions. When your main offensive weapon is a walk and you have 6 career SB, its really not so impressive.
  23. QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Jul 27, 2008 -> 12:13 PM) Swisher hitting .191 this month. Throw out his huge June and he's hitting .196 on the season. Yet Paulie needs to be benched or released and this guy needs to be at first base. Ridiculous.
  24. All the Konerko ripping yet none for Swisher who is now down to .229. April, May and July his combined average is .196.
  25. If you have a team thats going to lose 90 games, Javy Vazquez will be a stud. A big game pitcher he is not.
