White Sox v. Angels, 9/11, Gamethread
It seems like the Sox go for real long stretches without baserunner an awful lot lately. Maybe the toll of having to provide so much offense this season has worn on them.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 11, 2006 -> 09:29 PM) Yes, I think he'll be the type of guy who's year-to-year on his thought process. Even in the last few days, he's said things like "if I'm still here". If we miss the playoffs, maybe it will humble him. I think he's way beyond being able to be humbled now. He has bought all the hype.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 11, 2006 -> 09:27 PM) Am I the only one who thinks that the way things are going right now, if nothing else the thought certainly has crossed his mind? I always thought that, but he recently stated his desire to manage the White Sox indefinitely.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 11, 2006 -> 09:26 PM) Can't he just threaten to quit again? Now he wants to stay forever. I wonder if his sons will be 40 years old and hanging out in the dugout.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 11, 2006 -> 09:22 PM) I just didn't see the need for him to state that. Ozzie needs to say something to keep him on the front page. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 11, 2006 -> 09:24 PM) Over/under on how many time Vermeil sheds a tear in the booth tonight? I used to love when Vermeil did the Big Ten games with Brent Musburger.

QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Sep 11, 2006 -> 09:22 PM) A guy that scores 100 runs every year? Best player in team history? Guillen talks like a used car salesman Its hard to call him the best player in team history. The best hitter, sure. If he played in another era, his career may have been 5 or 6 years shorter than it will be now.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Sep 11, 2006 -> 09:21 PM) Frank isn't a great baseball player in the overall sense, but he's one of the best hitters EVAR, for sure. That was Ozzie's point, and I agree with both of you.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 11, 2006 -> 09:14 PM) I don't know if people saw this, but did you hear who Ozzie described today as not being a "good baseball player"? I'm surprised it wasn't a huge thread. He did call him a great hitter though, and its one thing I can't see where you could really disagree with Ozzie.

White Sox v. Angels, 9/11, Gamethread
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 11, 2006 -> 09:13 PM) I pray that this team can make the playoffs. However, it's sort of a therapeutic feeling know that the regular season is over in 3 weeks. I'll be extremely disappointed if we don't make the playoffs, but the more things remain the same, the more it seems like a longshot at this time with our brutal schedule coming up. Be careful, you never know who might be lurking to cherry-pick your comments. Detroit is going to get healthy with KC still on the schedule. I do believe the Sox will kick Seattle's ass, but 3 out of 4 may not be good enough. I think the Sox may need to get 6 out of 7 on the next homestand even if they go 3-3 on this trip.

The Sox better find a way to at least split these 6 on this trip, or the playoffs are a pipedream.

Didn't take long for 2 things we get nearly everyday. Hawk b****ing about the umpire and Pods looking at strike 3.

As long as we can win today (9/10)...
The West coast trip looms large. As long as the Sox don't piss their pants out there, they have a shot. I still cling more to the wild card. As bad as Detroit has been, they still have 6or 7 left with KC, a team they have manhandled. I hope the Sox can get on a roll here. History suggests that you don't want to have to win 2 or 3 that final series in Minnesota.

Black Jack to do Saturday Game
QUOTE(AbeFroman @ Sep 9, 2006 -> 12:36 PM) I liked Blackjack, but I actually though Robin Ventura was the best last year. During the Boy Wonder's playing days, his Manny's Menswear commercials were priceless.

Top of the 9th, what's your call?
If Jenks says he's healthy, he's got the ninth. I do know the gun at USCF was clocking his fastball at 97. I won't comment on its accuracy. I think the Sox are in a postion now where its not alright to stick with a guy too long. They must win. If Jenks says he's fine and the Sox are leading by a run in the 9th tonight, I would expect to see him again. But you better have someone ready just in case. Everyone has to be on a very short leash for the rest of the season. You don't want to go to Minnesota the last series of the season having to win 2.

Sox vs. Indians...Anthony John Walkoff
Unless the Sox host a playoff game to get into the playoffs, 3 million in attendance cannot happen. They are about 420,000 short right now with 10 games to go.

Sox fans, Brace for Changes
I hope no one thinks there's a realistic chance the Sox sign Zito. The White Sox don't give pitchers more than 3 years. Someone will give Zito at least 4 and if the Yankees and Mets are involved, it may go to 5 or even 6.

Sox fans, Brace for Changes
I wouldn't get rid of Buerhle. I think I would remove him from the rotation for the rest of this year though. His back may be why he's leaving everything up and extremely hittable. Garcia, Vazquez even Contreras I would rid myself of, although it would have to take a lot more to get Contreras. I just don't see the Count being all that effective for the duration of his contract. There are more than a few people pretty close to the situation who swear the Count is older than Duque. I think the Sox make a run at Pierre as mentioned above. Even Levine mentioned he heard Pierre would be a White Sox target this offseason. Ozzie loves him. Personally, I have no problem with Uribe. I wish he would be more consistent and hit for a higher average. Unless you're replacing him with a superstar, I would keep him at SS. I would also see what kind of market there is for Iguchi. He's a good player, there's just something about him that I don't really like. I'd like to get a sparkplug type guy at 2B. Someone who will have a filthy uniform every game. Please KW, don't ignore the bullpen this offseason. He picked up some pieces at the end of spring training and a couple during the season, but it would be nice to have a solid bullpen from the get go.

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 09:48 PM) And that's all Ozzie's fault. Do you honestly think Buehrle would have given up those runs if jerry manuel was still the manager?? No way, he would have given up a lot more. Ozzie being the manager probably saved him 4 or 5 runs.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 09:48 PM) All of the indians hits were duck snorts and lucky hits. The homers were due to a cyclovortex devilwinds that blow from time to time when our pitching happens to throw. The umps are screwing us because of jealousy of the best manager in the game, our hitting guru is just one adustment away from having this team go on a legendary run of unpresidented offense, and Cooper is like the dog whisperer and will chant into the arms and no hitters are a coming. We are going to win at least 20 in a row its coming. Now am I a good poster now. You're coming around. A few more and the rest of the good posters can safely return to the gamethreads.

QUOTE(whitesox1976 @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 09:44 PM) Losing again to the teams we should be beating. Ozzie has been having a different lineup all year. I can see resting players but the extent he goes to is crazy. Just wait until the playoffs start, the White Sox will be so well rested, while the opposition will be exhausted.

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 09:38 PM) Ozzie's fault No its not. Its only when the team does well when Ozzie must be given all the credit. If anyone wants to be considered a good poster, this is something they must learn. I'm doing my best to learn it. The Indians just hit some good pitches tonight, and got lucky with a couple of balls not hit well. The Sox hit into some tough luck.
