One other thing to add to this entire story, a pretty credible poster at WSI, who claims to be a doctor and is quite familiar with Dr. Weil said that Dr. Weil is or at least was a White Sox shareholder.

Depending on his physical condition, I wouldn't be surprised if the Sox have a lot of interest in Paul Shuey.

They need to have a system like they have in the NBA slotting amounts to be paid by the order in which guys are drafted. It would have to be something creative considering there are so many rounds, but make a maximum amount of bonus for anyone drafted in the 2nd round or later, less than the bonus given the last player in the first round. Also let teams trade their picks. This will end this ridiculousness of holding out. It will allow teams to budget their money. It will end the practice of teams having to draft by signability rather than ability. It will free up more money for players who have established themselves.

Yes. Basically the arbitrator decides if the player's worth is closer to management's figure or the player's figure, and they get that figure. Example: If Santana's figure was $10 million and the Twins was $8 million. If the arbitrator figured Santana deserved $9,000,000.01 he would get $10 million. If he decided he was worth $8,999,999.99 he would get $8 million.

Since the Sox are going from speed to power, can someone tell me who else besides Pods the White Sox have acquired this winter has any speed? Dye can't run anymore, AJ thinks Konerko can beat him in a race. Pods is the only guy, and he might not get on base very often. To characterize last year's team as a power team, and this year's as a speed team is a mistake IMHO, at least as the roster stands right now. The saying, speed doesn't go in slumps is usually correct, but if its only Pods, I can assure you speed will go into slumps.

If Magglio is healthy, Boras will have played this perfectly. He didn't work out at the Winter Meetings because he wasn't ready. He may be now. Boras knows exactly where teams were willing to go to with Beltran, and now he uses Maggs as the consolation prize, maximizing his dollars. If Magglio can't run, then all bets are off.

Personally, I don't know what Omar Minaya has done to warrant an unlimited checking account with Mets ownership. Obviously, he had his hands tied in Montreal, but he really botched the Colon trade, giving up a lot of prospects to acquire him, and getting squat back. Really, didn't do anything else spectacular. The one thing I will always remember about him was at their press conference announcing the Colon trade with the Sox, he really had no idea who Leifer was, and he just traded for him. Beltran is a great player. It will be interesting to see how he handles being the top dog on the biggest stage.

All the Maggs detractors need to make up their minds. If they think he now sucks and will suck, they should be doing cartwheels and backflips that he turned down the Sox offer. If you are really pissed at him for not signing, you must think he will return to previous levels of performance.

There has been a lot of rumors about Steve Stone taking a postition with the White Sox the last few days. I noticed that all Sox broadcasters will be at Soxfest, except for DJ. This can only fuel speculation. Maybe DJ is on vacation, maybe his wife is having a baby, I don't know, but maybe just maybe............................................................
