  1. It’s not like the White Sox are going to pay him significantly more than a team planning to keep him the entire season. That would make them unflipable.
  2. Who is going to be DFAd for this guy? I’m guessing a pitcher.
  3. Wrong Sanchez
  4. It is, and if the Sox didn't trade him, he probably would have been tested at a different time, and might not have been caught, and 40 homers a season might have continued. But he would have been traded in the last 2 years anyway. Admittedly, they would have got a lot more than James Shields.
  5. The thing is, there were a couple of teams in on him, at least with the rumors. Did the Sox offer him more money? Maybe, but significantly more? Kind of doubtful. I'm guessing they offered him playing time. But you never know. I was watching MLBN a couple of years ago and Kevin Millar was talking about fringe players being free agents. He said panic starts to set in right around Christmas when you aren't signed. It could just be this guy didn't want to wait because he might have had to sign a minor league deal.
  6. They just set the all time record for losses. If the bolded is true, they are not living in a reality based world.
  7. I disagree. At some point Montgomery is going to get a shot. Ramos is now a guy who needs to be evaluated at the big league level. Same with Vargas. The little guy from Boston should be ready at some point. Sosa should get ABs. Baldwin as well. Amaya should get a shot. If you're going to suck, play the young guys. There was no reason for Tommy Pham, and I doubt this guy will be as good as he was, in 2024. He played fine, but the younger guys should have played more.
  8. The one thing the teams that were successful at rebuilding did that the White Sox did not, was clean house in the front office. The people that got you in the mess, aren't the ones that are going to lead you to sustained success. At some point, you're going to be back to having to add a player here or there, like you said, the little things, and they get those wrong. Getz, like you wrote, is the same. The one small hope we have is the team is sold fairly soon, and the new owner realizes the problem. But now we are stuck, and 30+ year old DFAs and non tenders are our big moves.
  9. Tatis Jr. was obviously a horrible trade, but you would have hated him on the White Sox, especially after his PED suspension. And he would now be a free agent, because there was no way JR was giving him all that cash. 2020 and 2021 might have gone better, especially 2021, as 2020 the Sox had 2 starters when the playoffs came around. After that, missed all of 2022 with an injury and PED suspension. Do they trade him then? Probably pennies to the dollar. His OPS dropped 200 points in 2023 from 2021, and the Sox lost 101 games, so not much of a difference he could have made.. Do they trade him then? Probably pennies to the dollar. Maybe they trade him at the deadline in 2024 and get a couple of decent prospects, but the team still loses 100 games. Might not have set a loss record though, but that's a lot of money to pay out for a couple of prospects.
  10. Baldwin, Amaya, Montgomery, Sosa, Ramos,Vargas, the guy they got for Crochet......this guy may be better than them all, but he's over 30, he isn't going to be flipped for much even in a best case scenario, the team is going to lose 100 games. I'm not pissed off about it, but I don't see the point.
  11. Someday maybe we can argue about trades that actually matter. It's so sad we are arguing about 8th round picks and 31 year old DFA'd guys. But that's all we have.
  12. I wonder how many years of who cares trades and signings we have left.
  13. 2012 is the last time they didn’t make the playoffs. How ever you want to slice it, I’d take that front office any day.
  14. Cody Bellinger, Clayton Kershaw….yeah they suck.
  15. How a guy who was an OL doesn't know the key to good teams is in the trenches is beyond me. I guess when youre a GM, you pick up guys like yourself. Getz likes slappy guys who can't play. Poles likes OL who went undrafted.
  16. Exactly. Either for some reason you are so impressed with losing football, you must keep him around for the next 3 or 4 years, unless you hire the second coming of Trestman, or you have to fire him. They are 4-12. He has shown he cannot build a team. Now he's blaming training camp.
  17. I get that. And in a nothing for nothing trade, I'd error on the side of youth and keep the younger player. But we will see what this guy has. He was decent in the majors last year but has been awful in the minors except when he pitched for the Chicago Dogs.
  18. There’s a 99.9% chance this turns into a nothing for nothing trade.
  19. Plus the first one wouldn’t have been one had they played with regular rules. They expanded because of Covid. And of course, no series wins. But it is interesting how many are OK with how that rebuild turned out.
  20. One difference is the Fires owner doesn’t think he’s entitled to a free stadium.
  21. Hopefully they will at least grant them a visit.
  22. This might be the one time they could get something decent trading bonus money.
  23. Oscar Robertson is a legendary basketball player. His last name wasn't misprounced 3 times, Schriff just got it wrong. TW, my job requires me to sometimes co tact people and ask about their clients. I butcher names all the time. Reminds me of grade school where the one redeeming quality of the first day of school was the teacher mispronounced names, and the entire class would laugh about it.
  24. Quit complaining.
