  1. Last winter, Buster Olney laughed when people thought the White Sox would sign a premier guy. He isn't a shock guy. He isn't a moron. Until Buster can't laugh anymore, having confidence the White Sox will actually convert on any player of this ilk has to be very low.
  2. It was to make the Phillies feel they weren't bidding against themselves. Boras has more clients. Philadelphia still has more money. The White Sox, who were more open about their Machado chase than ever before, had nothing to say about Harper except he cost too much. They didn't pursue him again. Ask wsd. He heard nothing about Harper after the December meeting, and while I am not a fan of his, his stuff was the most accurate last winter.
  3. Boras fed Heyman some BS to increase the offers. The Sox were done with Harper right after their meeting. The Sox were used as leverage, again.
  4. Especially now that they have Vaughn. Eloy, Robert and Moncada from left to right would be a fun OF. But I do agree with the post above. There is very little chance they move him again unless he just falls apart at 3B, and that doesn't seem likely.
  5. If the Sox would have signed Machado, Yoan probably stays at 2B until Madrigal is ready, then moved to either 1B or RF. Now, I don't know if you move him again, but Biggio moved around. Started out at C, moved to 2B, then to CF, then I think he moved back to 2B. So he probably could handle it, but for now, it makes no sense to move him from where he is unless something better comes along.
  6. To be fair, they didn't negotiate with Boras last winter over Harper. They heard the asking price, thought it was too much and moved on.
  7. When you go out to lunch and there is a line out the door, do the people working there perform as well as when there is one or two people there? Some probably do, and might even kick it up a notch, others become overwhelmed. In my job, there are very busy times. Some people step up, some check out.
  8. Because I know it exists. It exists at my current job, it existed when I played baseball, it existed when I had to testify at a trial. How that is measured in a stat, I do not know.
  9. And I get where mathmatically it would be very hard to measure due to sample size, and like I mentioned before the randomness of the gaem where sometimes really good ABs have far worse results than bad ones. But it seems to be the industry standard, if it can't be measured, it doesn't exist, and common sense and everyday life makes you know it exists.
  10. To think everyone will perform the same whether the situation is stressful or not, is ludicrous, whether it's baseball, or being an accountant or lawyer or cutting hair. Some people fold, some rise to the occassion when the chips are on the table. The object is to score runs. Jose Abreu has produced a lot of runs for the White Sox with very little help, it's hard to understand how some can't understand that.
  11. Abreu is 11th in the league, which pencils out between great and excellent. But he sucks, just ask chitownsportsfan.
  12. I'd much prefer Jose get his hits when nobody is on base. Why score?
  13. Of course you are a guy who though Yonder Alonso was good. Yet if you looked at his advanced numbers, he's pretty much sucked his entire career, save one season. But go on a rant telling me I am stupid and using some slang to call me a girl. The bottom line is you have no idea what you are writing about.
  14. Not so good. But I would rather have a guy a bit better with runners on than the bases empty. The guy produces runs. The Sox don't have many of those. He's been a really good player for the White Sox. I
  15. Yes. There obviously is a randomness in baseball. You can hit the snot out a ball and roll into or line into a DP. You can bloop one over the infielder and drive in a couple of runs, but since the math is impossible to really quantify without small sample size being used as a caveat, it does not exist. The fact is, since Abreu came to the White Sox 3 players, who everyone here would say are or were really good hitters have more RBI. Arenado, Encarcion, and Nelson Cruz. No one else.
  16. I went to a fraternity brother friends wedding in Sioux City IA either when I still was in college or right when I graduated. I still didn’t have a real job. I did get myself a sweet pair of Ray Bans though. So we go to the wedding, afterward my friend who I was with, and about 10 people from the wedding wind up in our hotel room drinking. I had my sunglasses sitting on the desk they provided at the lovely Holiday Inn where we were staying . Out of the corner of my eye, I see two guys talking to each other and one taking my glasses and putting them in his cowboy boot he was wearing. So I walk over and tell the guy I think he has my glasses. He makes up some story about how he thought someone might have misplaced them so he was holding them for later. He gave them back, and I told him he probably should leave. It was only a pair of sunglasses but they blew out my budget back then. i have just never understood why people can’t have enough decency to leave others things alone. Sorry about that Greg. Not everyone is bad. I lost my wallet at a Sox game earlier this season. I went to the lost and found at Guaranteed Rate, they didn’t have it although I did leave my contact info.I retraced my steps, nothing. The game ends, I am walking out of the park, my phone rings, it’s the White Sox, they have my wallet. Someone turned it in, and they took nothing, not even the cash.
  17. I am wondering if it may be since there are no trades, they may release a couple of guys so they can perhaps finish the season out with a contender. It would have to happen pretty soon so they would have time to find a team to be eligible for the playoffs.
  18. They moved up first deposits for season tickets a couple of months this year. Makes me wonder what they are worried about.
  19. He was called up when they were facing a lot of lefties, where either he was overmatched or on the bench. If they want to take credit for it being the reason he is hot now, that is quite a stretch.
  20. The way Collins was handled was the exact opposite of putting him in a position to succeed.
  21. Granted with a better line up, maybe he doesn’t bunt. But....first off Detwiler is a guy you have to figure will give up runs, playing for one run at a time is curious. Plus the opposing pitcher gave up 41 runs his last 41 innings pitched. You have to figure you have a shot at big innings.
  22. He is having a nice night, but if the White Sox expect to be d cent next year, Detwilershould be nowhere near 35th street unless it is in the other dugout.
  23. If Garcia didn’t bunt , the run would have scored anyway. His bunt didn’t produce a run in any way. He would have scored on the single,or the first homer or the second homer. The first bunt may have produced a run, but if Jon Jay has to bunt in that situation, why is he in the team? Setting it up for Matt something most managers wont do. The only way you can say that was the proper move is if you are of the belief that it was very u nlikely Jon Jay would advance runner in any other way. Hitting is hard enough. Giving up outs in that situation is not good.
  24. His guy has been maybe the worst pitcher in baseball the last couple of months. And Ricky is giving him outs.
