  1. I am not the only person on this site that thinks you defend Rick Hahn. One player averaging about 3 WAR a year as the feather in your cap in 7 years of work, and getting slightly better than replacement on the other $180 million you spent, isn't exactly getting it done. Maybe he's due to be right. I can't believe Hahn's performance is up for debate. It's as clear as can be.
  2. It's not. Whether the ultimate goal is winning or not, he is signing free agents and trading for players he thinks can play. So many of these were just pissing away money. Jon Jay? Please. Alonso wasn't techinically a free agent, I guess that makes it even worse, but Yonder Alonso for $9 million? Really? Another trade, Nova, why $9 million on him? They spent $22 million on those 3. Why? What did they add to the rebuild? Why not spend it on 16 year old international guys and a bunch of lottery tickets? McCann was good for a losing team. Hopefully he can keep it up, and we can put him in Rick's win column. But If he snaps back to being what he was in 2020, not saying he will, and hoping he will not, is that a win when you are paying someone to be good on a bad team? Even with Abreu, he has spent over $250 million on free agents only to lose, lose, and lose some more. When he was "going for it", LaRoche? Trading for Samardijza? It's one colossal blunder after another. Even Robertson and Frazier, he salary dumped with Kahnle a guy they could still use, and got back a poor man's Ryan Sweeney who may never play in the major leagues.
  3. If he continues his trend of his first 7 years, do you really think he can build a perennial contender?
  4. I always liked Lovie. He took a team QB'd by Rex Grossman to the Super Bowl.
  5. The problem is, eventually the Sox will be at their 2014-2016 level and will need to make additions to see it through. It didn't work then, it hasn't worked since 2005, except in 2008. With basically the same guys making the decisions, what do we have to hang our collective hats on? Money-wise, when they "went for it" in 2015, Sale, Q, and Eaton, combined, made less than Abreu will make even if he signs for less than the QO. Hey, maybe they can have a good season, and make the playoffs once. OK, I can see that. But sustained winning? They have never done it. Did they just need 15-20 years of seasoning? This period of hurt is supposed to pay off with winning. So much winning that the Sox wanted no part of giving a 10 year contract last year because it would make it tough in years 9 and 10.
  6. So if the GM doesn't make trades, sign free agents, and ultimately pull the trigger on draft picks, who does? Rick Hahn gets paid a lot of money to put his name on White Sox personnel decisions. Just because someone is very intelligent doesn't mean they have all the answers in baseball. There are plenty of guys in sports making decisions you wouldn't want taking the SAT for you, and plenty of guys you would want taking the SAT for you, you wouldn't want in Rick Hahn's position. You said the organization is a joke. What does that say about Rick Hahn, a guy for those 10-15 years who has been a lot closer to the top of the organizational chart than the bottom. I think they all have to go myself. The most bizarre thing was every bad move was a KW/JR decision, every good one a RH move of a couple of seasons ago. That seems to have gone by the boards, although there still seems to be a holdout or two.
  7. A much needed win, and Mitch looked good for a couple of series. But a crappy defense and back up QB and winning by the skin of their teeth isn’t exactly encouraging.
  8. But he has been better offensively in the past. For the White Sox, he doesn't make sense because the other guys have to play. But it's not crazy to think he is capable of a 2+ WAR. He has done it before. He will make less than Yonder Alonso whose WAR has been pretty low most of his career. At the very least, you know Yolmer won't be totally useless because of his glove, something you can't say about many players in hi prie range. I am not saying it would be a well thought of prospect. Someone like a Cordell. Or Burr. A guy who probably sucks but you never know. The Sox are due for one of these types working out.
  9. Maybe they can trade him for something. He did deserve the GG which in itself is pretty amazing the way he started out, and we know he can also play 3rd , and if he has to, SS. His arbitration number and his WAR aren't really out of whack, and plenty of teams can use his glove and Gatorade antics.
  10. Even with them, Rick Hahn generally managed teams have never produced a draft pick lower than 11. So next year will be the 7th consecutive year the Sox pick in the top 11, including 2 pick 3s, 1 pick 4, 1 pick 8, 1 pick 10, and 2 pick 11s. Larry Himes totally rebuilt the White Sox with a 5,7,10 and 4. He is a smart guy, but maybe building MLB rosters isn’t his thing. There seems to be a lot of proof out there. He thought he had at least a couple of contenders, yet never won more than 78 games. At the very least, they need new braintrust. JR needs to say thanks for the memories to KW and RH, hire someone else and lose his or her cell number to stay out of the way.
  11. It would be one thing if it was a successful team whose core got old and expensive and had to be torn down. But mediocre at best, awful at worst before the rebuild should indicate someone else should have done the rebuilding. Eventually winning will matter. JR isn’t going to own the team forever. RH has degrees from Michigan, Harvard, and Northwestern, so he is obviously bright, but building baseball teams doesn’t seem to be an area of expertise.
  12. We can only hope he has learned lessons and when he gets to the point he was at before and failed miserably, he will be successful. One thing that would help is trying to get the team being as good as can be on opening day, not half assing saying you will add at the deadline. If that practice hasn't been eliminated, the sustained success goal will never be realized. Face it, the only time they won, Geoff Blum was the only addition. If you needed to add significantly at the deadline, White Sox fans may still be waiting. Juggernaut on opening day should be the goal.
  13. Many were on ground balls. Many were on throws no one would get to. Blaming Abreu for TAs defense is pretty weak.
  14. This kid will be correct eventually but I think he is just pulling things out of his ass at this point. The White Sox are interested enough where they are willing to give up assets for what could be a 1 year deal, but not interested enough to make him opt out? Doesn’t really add up.
  15. I saw a quote the other day where Moncada told Renteria he can also play CF. I don’t think they would sign Rendon, considering he will want at least close to what they offered Machado, and that will eat into what would have been year 9 with Machado, which we were told if that money was committed for that season, they would be unable to afford a winning team. I also doubt they would now move Moncada again after one very successful season at 3B.
  16. Daniels was a C in college. Ask Dan Hampton about Whitehair at C. I saw something the other day that basically said Whitehair was the best G in the division. So sure, move him back to C.
  17. That is a bit dramatic. They improved by 4 wins. Crawford was basically a 2 win player for then for a couple of years, Gonzalez a 3 win player, and Beckett an injured one. With the cash outlay it wasn't that great of a deal
  18. In 2020. So still around the going rate. Pretty good chance Price only declines moving forward and the 29 starts in 2020 is pretty optimistic.
  19. Steamer projects Benetendi and Price to combine for a 5.0 WAR. It uses 29 starts for price. Giving up nothing would still require financial relief. And with what they pay to attend games, good like getting the fanbase to accept giving up Benetendi as part of a salary dump.
  20. Yes, EE seems like a foregone conclusion at this point.
  21. If the Sox signed Grandal, he would be 2 years younger than what Carlton Fisk was when the Sox signed him. The game has really changed.
  22. If he turns down a QO this year, and winds up settling for less, yes. It was a new thing a couple of years ago. O he gets a pass on Moose the first time although it was poor representation. Boras isn’t good for every player. There are quite a few that hav been stung by him. But if you are a stud he will get you your money.
  23. I think Cole, Strasburg, and Rendon aren’t happening. Everyone else I think they have a decent shot at if they target. Who that will be is anyone’s guess, but at least one of those in the next tier will be signed quickly followed by an I told you so from the offices at 35th and Shields.
  24. The fact is the White Sox aren’t as desirable as other teams presently. If it was like the NBA where all the offers are basically the same, they would be screwed. The players don’t care that Bridgeport is a sleepy little area without 100 bars within walking distance of the ballpark. They don’t live there or go to these bars after games. But all things being equal, players like being paid, then playing for winning teams, preferable in fun environments. The last 2 pretty much go hand in hand with rare exception. But if you are a top guy and sign a 5 to 10 year contract, you would prefer to have total confidence the organization will be able to contend most of the time you are under contract. The White Sox can try to sell sustained success,, but they aren’t coming from a place of familiarity. A player really has to take a leap of faith thinking the White Sox are going to be good for a long time.
