  1. I have the same question. But Morosi is one of the major guys. People have bought his stuff all offseason. The only thing that might make sense is if they signed Harper, there would be no need for Alonso since they would slide Palka to DH. I would imagine Alonso would be in the deal. Jerry D gets to make another trade and saves a little coin. But it still doesn’t make much sense to me from a White asox perspective, and now you have to count on Harper. And he he went somewhere else......
  2. That is why I am buying it. Both came out the same day. Maybe a coincidence, maybe both fake, but that doesn’t seem likely.
  3. He’s doing his thing with the Reds. He must have some really good info on a lot of people.
  4. Since you think the White Sox are still in and have made what Obviouly would have be a bigger bid than the Yankees and basically calling this report fake, aren’t you drawing your own conclusions? What makes what I am using vs what you are using any less accurate?
  5. They pretty much challenged themselves with these two. Hahn has often mentioned that the White Sox don’t operate they way they used to. That the money was there for a piece they needed. KW stated the piece or pieces they needed were available now. So if they miss, something doesn’t add up. As my guy Geddy Lee used to sing, the more things change, the more they stay the same. 2nd place doesn’t cut it.
  6. I just don’t think the White Sox are in a position to play that game. If they don’t know it is going to cost them more than it would the Yankees, they were screwed from the get go. If they want one of these guys they are going to have to blow away the competition, not try to nickel and dime them. When JR signed Belle he asked them what it was going to take. He then agreed. Here it is a bit more, so there could be some back and forth, but not nearly as much as there could be if they actually were a desirable destination.
  7. The White Sox are 134 games under .500 the 6 seasons Rick Hahn has been GM. I am guessing Matt Millen wasn’t available.
  8. He would do it for the financial savings. But what does paying EE a minimum $25 million do for the White Sox? and wouldn’t trading Alonso mean Machado isn’t coming?
  9. I did get a kick out of Boras telling everyone Harper was studying farm systems. Someone might want to remind him that the team he left had a talent level few do, and he is still looking for his first postseason series win.
  10. Because they have that position filled, one by Machado’s brother in law, and Encarnacion is pretty much a DH only, owed a minimum $25 million, 35 years old, coming off a down year. And Morosi, and maybe that is also inaccurate, made it seem like the Sox were doing a bit more that checking in on him. And it comes out the same day of the other report. If everything that comes out is bullshit, how do we know the reports of the White Sox really being a player for theses guys and not the typical also rans they normally are, aren’t bullshit?
  11. It is amazing how many just find effort good enough. It make sense the more effort you put into things the better you will be, but effort doesn’t matter in the real world.. results do. You have a kid in little league, giving their best effort is important. Whether they actually win the game really doesn’t matter that much.
  12. I am sure before it becomes official, Manny is going to have to take a physical, probably in NY, maybe in Tampa. Who knows what his schedule is like.for all we know, he might be on vacation right now. There are many reasons it could be delayed. Obviously one could be that the report is fake. But the White Sox going after Encarnacion sends a signal that something has changed.
  13. They are talking about a press conference on Jan.7. Of everyone on this board, I know you are the most invested in at least one of these guys being a White Sox. I think you even thought both. It might be time to at least start preparing for the worst.
  14. BTW, when it was announced DiDi was injured, I did post it made it a lock Machado to NY. So if he does sign, I do hope everyone, including all the national guys give me credit.
  15. I would think it would be due to the holidays. This would be one of the biggest signings in history, and people are doing other things. It would basically be the Friday night news dump , I take a bus to work in the morning. It is empty now , usually standing room only. The office is a ghost town. Turn on the news and it is the back ups on the telecast. Watch TV, it’s re runs. i think it is as simple as that. James McCann, that’s the type of stuff you can announce now. Machado and Harper, you need to wait until people return to their normal schedules.
  16. I don’t know why leaking someone agreed to a contract would be beneficial. Couldn’t the White Sox just ask his agent if it is true?
  17. Normally, I would agree, but this is about the most quiet time for baseball. A signing of this magnitude calls for a big press conference, and they want as many people paying attention as possible.
  18. If Dan Clark is accurate, the White Sox have been informed they are out. If the White Sox are still negotiating,Dan Clark is full of it.. I don’t think anyone believes Dan Clark has any information the White Sox don’t have.
  19. Maybe , but in years past, if they ever were involved, they were definitely one of the mystery teams. and KWs quote about the pieces they need being available now, implies In the future there will be less attractive alternatives.
  20. If Machado signs for anything significantly short of a record breaking deal, the White Sox either weren’t offering him one, or the current regime has run them into the ground so far, players won’t even take their money. Just like making ARod a Ranger, Cano a Mariner, and getting Pujols to leave St.Loius, there is a figure that would make Machado and Harper play for the White Sox. Whether that figure ultimately makes sense or not is another debate. But it does exist. The thing that will get me with this failure, if that is what happens,, is how they went away from their Jerry Krause-like secretive MO. While if they land the player, it’s great, if they miss out, and especially if they had very little chance anyway, it only disappoints the fan base even more.
  21. What do they gain by announcing it. Isn’t an alleged pursuit of Edwin Encarnacion a giveaway? Besides, someday, maybe even during our lifetimes, the Sox will be the team the star is signing, I am sure they would want the pleasure of making the announcement.
  22. Sure it is. Most “sources” aren’t nearly as engaged right now as usual. Dan Clark apparently had access to a player.
  23. Yes, not that difficult this time of year. But it seems as if it is starting to crack. If if you were the Yankees and Many agreed to sign, then came back a couple of days later and said, hey, we still have been negotiating and you need to kick in more cash, how would that go over? People still put value on their word.
  24. Your last paragraph isn’t accurate. You may have posted about landing theses guys more than anyone. Your heart appears set on it occurring, and there have been no insiders that have ever given the White Sox more than a punchers chance. This might be BS, it might not. But all of a sudden the Sox seem interested in players that don’t match up with a Machado signing, and it is from an insider Morosi, who you would bank on. Things are lining up not how we wished. It is getting to be that time we all accepted it, and get pleasantly surprised if it turns into something different.
