  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 1, 2016 -> 12:58 PM) As do the responses. Including yours. The most predictable post in Soxtalk history.
  2. QUOTE (whitesoxjr27 @ Nov 1, 2016 -> 10:28 AM) I found this on their site. Thank you for your interest in Cubby Bear for the World Series! Here are some things you'll need to know! *Doors open at 11am for all home/away playoff games. *NO reservations or group packages. *We will be charging $100 cover for all HOME games. *All guests must be 21+ And this. http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2016/10/29/wri...g-world-series/ Murphy's blaming the city was great. Since they really didn't want that cover charge money maybe they will donate it to a worthy cause, but I'm guessing not.
  3. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 1, 2016 -> 12:48 PM) Everyone here understands you are trying to point out that some folks may be overreacting. And most people agree with you. But holy s*** do you find new and amazing ways to destroy threads by slippery sloping every... single... f***ing... post you disagree with. This thread should be destroyed. It's old news and the complaints remain the same and are ridiculous.
  4. QUOTE (SonofaRoache @ Nov 1, 2016 -> 12:42 PM) Well that's probably because the Sox are getting laughed at across the country by the masses. I was in Vegas when it was announced and was asked about it several times while wearing my hat. Each time ended in big laughter from askee. How awful for you. I'm glad you were able to recover.
  5. QUOTE (SonofaRoache @ Nov 1, 2016 -> 12:26 PM) Yeah that arrow pointing down is fine for a company promoting low rates. Not so for a sports team looking to build up from garbage and years of underachieving. The White Sox aren't using that logo. They are just getting paid to have it painted on the wall at the park. If Guaranteed Rate bought ad space at the scorers table for the Bulls or on the boards for the Hawks, where it would be seen more prominently during games, no one would say anything about the arrow pointing down.
  6. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 1, 2016 -> 10:01 AM) The advertisements involved with a franchise still portray an image of the team. Even though the downward logo has to do with mortgage rates, it still gives a negative image when it's plastered next to the team's logo. It's why no team plays at Bob's Dildos Field. Sure, Bob's Dildos may be the best dildo company in the whole world and everybody has nothing but positive things to say about the company, but you still don't want a big dildo plastered all over your stadium walls, no matter how much revenue it brings in. That is a bad example. Not even close. I personally feel White Sox fans as a whole are sophisticated enough to realize the downward arrow is the logo of a mortgage company, and has the ability to separate that from the team. It's just currently, they don't want to. I do believe if the team had been successful recently, this would be no issue.
  7. When will beer snobs start complaining about Miller Park?
  8. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 1, 2016 -> 09:50 AM) White Sox fans understand it, you are just picking fights. Guaranteed Rate = mortgage company Chicago White Sox = not a mortgage company Yes, and whose logo is the downward arrow? Apparently many people somehow tie Guaranteed Rate's logo as the White Sox'.
  9. QUOTE (shipps @ Nov 1, 2016 -> 09:36 AM) The context of their business was that they want their customers to believe their rates will be low. Yes, but White Sox fans don't seem to understand it, so why would their customer base understand it? Isn't the downward arrow a sign of a sinking ship?
  10. QUOTE (shipps @ Nov 1, 2016 -> 09:35 AM) Coley Harvey ESPN Staff Writer All of these people, lined up 10 hours before first pitch in Cleveland, will be disappointed to know no extra World Series tickets will be released today. Many are Cubs fans. Whah whah whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah If I owned a bar around there, I would charge Cubs fans $200 to get in, and another $200 for a seat. Apparently they will pay it, and they must have some cash in their pockets.
  11. Since it is so horrible, can someone explain how Guaranteed Rate was able to build their business from the ground up with a logo with an arrow pointing down?
  12. QUOTE (shipps @ Nov 1, 2016 -> 09:22 AM) When your team is going as the Sox have been the past few years all the negative things that happen sting a bit more. All the times stuff doesnt go our way, even if its small in the grand scheme, makes us feel more defeated than we probably should. This is just like everything else that has taken place recently with the Sox, its AWFUL timing. They definitely have the bad timing down to a science at this point, true experts in bad timing. What is the bad timing? It was announced in August that November 1 the name change takes place. When were they supposed to announce it, and why would anyone be embarrassed? You must embarrass easily. I could probably follow everyone around for an hour, and someone could do the same with me, and find several things you should probably be more embarrassed about than a name or an arrow on the ballpark of the team you follow. It's not like US Cellular Field was a classic. They aren't even in the Chicago market anymore.
  13. QUOTE (shysocks @ Nov 1, 2016 -> 09:12 AM) Not sure that you got a straight answer to this. So the problem is that you associate a big red downward-pointing arrow with negativity, poor performance, something moving in the wrong direction. It's like a signal that says "Do Not Approach." Then you factor in that the team has already been associated with those things for a few years. Then you plaster that arrow all over the stadium. It's just a bad look. It's not the end of the world, but it is insulting. I could buy that if it was the White Sox emblem, but it's not. And everyone knows it. There are downward pointing arrows all over the place. Order food here, pick up here, downward arrow. No one thinks twice.
  14. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 1, 2016 -> 08:59 AM) I think you are way too sure of this. Trayce was worth less than half a WAR when he broke his back. Micah struggled in AAA, and Frankie pitched about 4 innings this year with rib ailments, and still has a troublesome knee. If the Sox had kept all 3, they would have been called idiots for not trading them when they had more value.
  15. This is so horrible. An arrow pointed down on a board that faces the Dan Ryan. How can we cope? How much more can we take? .
  16. QUOTE (InTheDriversSeat @ Oct 31, 2016 -> 06:04 PM) So apparently the Michael Sneed Chicago Sun-Times column last month regarding the possibility of changing the logo wasn't true: http://chicago.suntimes.com/politics/sneed...row-adjustment/ The Curbed Chicago website today has a quote from Linda Marsicano, Guaranteed Rate's VP of Public Relations: http://chicago.curbed.com/2016/10/31/13477...-cellular-field . I guess the Sox wanted them to make the arrow home plate. It would be very similar, but they said no. People will get over it.
  17. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 31, 2016 -> 04:13 PM) Partially because Trayce had an incomplete season so his WAR would be lower. We may have sold at right time, that we received the right piece is again questionable. If the White Sox offered Trayce, Micah, and Frankie in a package this offseason, they would get nothing close to Todd Frazier.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 31, 2016 -> 04:07 PM) Every time I've seen him he's been a strong defender, I don't know what happened in 2016, could have been part of the injuries (I didn't follow him closely enough) but I also hesitate to take partial year defensive stats like that because you're never supposed to do that. He made a couple of bad plays for the White Sox, but looked decent for sure. He also hit .169 his last 142 PA. They sold him at the right time.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 31, 2016 -> 03:14 PM) A .700 OPS from TT with strong defense in CF would be just about as valuable to this team as adding Cespedes to RF, if he could do that for the bulk of a season and stay healthy. You keep Eaton in RF and you suddenly have OF defense as one of your team's strengths. I wouldn't have guessed he could do that with the bat before breaking into the big leagues, I'm less certain he can't now. Kevin Pillar put up a .679 OPS this year in CF and was a 3.4 fWAR player. Why is Pillar's WAR a factor here and not Trayce's 0.4? The fact is Trayce was bad defensively in 2016. Why should anyone assume he will be stellar?
  20. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Oct 30, 2016 -> 02:41 PM) In no sense was Trayce sold high. The trade would have been defensible IF the Sox were in a position to win AND they didn't have a gaping hole at CF and pitching depth, particularly in the pen (of course those weaknesses, exacerbated by the trade, are a large reason why the Sox weren't in a position to win). A savvy trade of Sale plus another year of quality development by the young pitchers, and the Sox could be ready in 2018. But the usual out of Hahn will yield the usual results. Really? You think he is worth more now with a bad back ? Besides you told us that the Sox needed to be building around Trayce, not waiting for his trade value to peak, which it may have.
  21. QUOTE (WBWSF @ Oct 31, 2016 -> 07:12 AM) I've read where he had numerous types of drugs in his body when he died. What does that say for MLB drug testing? They only test for PEDs.
  22. Maddon had the Cubs come in at 5:30 today. No BP. It will be interesting to see how this games unfolds. Francona can manage it straight. Maddon is going to have to have a quicker hook , etc. unless the Cubs get a quick decent lead.
  23. If the Cubs came back, it would match the Tribes longest losing streak of the season.
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 30, 2016 -> 01:36 AM) Why are so many people (not saying you) unwilling to simply write off Hillary? My gosh how many smoking guns do you want? The woman is corrupt as corrupt can be. Keep her the heck out of the Oval Office. When she gets elected, boy oh boy she's going to get a lot done during her first two years when the government will be putting her on trial. I get the feeling even if the Republicans had a normal candidate, people would still want Hillary. It baffles the s*** out of me. Oh well, let's elect her and get it over with an impeach her as soon as possible. probably in 15 months I'd say. Why is this a smoking gun? They went through her emails and no charges. Now there are some emails on another computer. Chances are, they are emails they have already seen. The fact is, this new "evidence" of Hillary's guilt, hasn't even been looked at. The emails just exist at this point and haven't been read by the Feds. And what is the intent here? Is Hillary a traitor? If anyone is a traitor it is Trump who actually encouraged Russia to hack emails. He should be in jail.
  25. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 29, 2016 -> 11:33 PM) I can't help it that sox fans are shook by da cubs. if this were the dodgers and i say the exact same thing, nobody would say a word. the cubs are in sox fans heads on this board (not OGs like quinarvy, kyyle or jason). but the rest of yall? pathetic. Seems the one who is shook is you. Down 3-1, something the last 10 teams in the WS could not come back from, and you are the one saying they are in perfect position, they can't lose. When are you going to tell us we are lucky to be alive to see the greatest talent ever assembled on one team?
