That's the thing, no clear path or alternative moving forward, it makes little sense to cut him IMO. I understand the concept of tanking for draft picks, but because of career length, you can't do that for 4 or 5 years in the NFL or you will just have to start over again as the first guys you drafted and signed will become free agents or insurance salesman. Do the Bears really want to throw away 2017 right now? I doubt it, and then even if you draft a QB first or second, how long does it take to start winning from there? I don't think it's unreasonable when the Bears hired Pace and Fox to expect the playoffs in 2017. If they cut Cutler, unless they get really lucky somehow, I don't see that happening right now.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 2, 2016 -> 01:26 PM) I wore my Sox hat to work today (work in the loop) mostly so people on the streets selling "Cubs NL Champs" shirts wouldn't acknowledge me. Mission accomplished lol I did wear my Sox hat all weekend after my neighbor chewed me out for not rooting for the Cubs. I figured with my Sox hat on, no one would say Go Cubs to me, and it worked. Had several people in passing cars honk and give me a thumbs up. A few people walking by did the same. I think living on the north side, it is assumed I am a Cubs fan. My wife is sporting a White Sox hoody today. God bless her.

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Nov 2, 2016 -> 01:22 PM) If we never hear from DA again, we will know why. Brought to my demise by Cubs fans. That would be embarrassing.

I would just like the Indians to be up 7-0 in the 3rd. Then I will put on my Sox hat and go bar hopping in Old Town.
-
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 2, 2016 -> 11:46 AM) Not to be as ass but there's absolutely 0 chance that the Indians haven't lost 3 in a row this year. If they lose tonight, it would tie their longest losing streak of the year.

Potential + Effects of the World Series?
Dick Allen replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Hawk seems to think the Cubs winning the WS would force the White Sox to try to keep up with the Joneses. I just question whether the Cubs would become more popular or less popular if they won tonight. I think they are the only team that could possibly lose some interest after winning it all. It wouldn't be drastic, and they still would sell out all the time, but I think once the lovable loser tag is off, some will move on. -
Cutler is a pretty damn good QB when he doesn't turn the ball over. He was really good last year, and great on Monday night. The other games this year, he would cough it up. I suppose you could blame the o-line for some of it, but for what he's paid, he needs to overcome that, and either get rid of it before a fumble, or throw it away instead of an INT more often. It appears like with Marshall, the new regime's plan was to get rid of Cutler as soon as it made cap sense. Maybe he will change minds the rest of this season. The Bears were looking for QBs for decades, then trade for him. Most everyone thought he was the savior initially. I think Peter King predicted the Bears would win the Super Bowl. I am aftraid cutting him will bring back the same problem. No QB.

I don't know if this was mentioned, as I just thought of it, and I am probably a little slow, but if the White Sox had made the WS this year and it went 6 games, they would have called it US cellular field for games 1 and 2, and guaranteed rate for 6 and 7. -

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Nov 1, 2016 -> 02:58 PM) I read somewhere that Wintrust proposed "Wintrust Field at Comiskey Park" for the same amount of money. So I don't think GR was the only offer It was for less money. I read the CEO's comments. They ultimately pulled out of the bidding. -

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Nov 1, 2016 -> 02:42 PM) A club capable of winning consistently on the field, or at least fielding a competitive product wouldn't make this decision. It's that simple. This decision part and parcel of the awful leadership at the top. That's why when you say "oh just field a winner and nobody will care about the logo" isn't so simple. People need to be replaced. Brooks, you took the best offer? You incompetent idiot, you're fired. When you sell a house just remember it's stupid to take the best offer financially. You should sell it to whoever you think the neighbors would like best no matter the financial consequence. -

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Nov 1, 2016 -> 02:19 PM) "old news" http://deadspin.com/white-sox-didnt-want-g...stad-1788440027 Yes old news. In fact, you were pissed off about it in August. Embarrassed, wished you could turn back the clock and be a Tigers fan, said the Sox were trying to piss their fans off... -
24 years old with fame and cash in Miami, a lot of us would make some bad decisions. He made more than one that night and he paid a price way too high. Why the cocaine does throw most of us aback, it still shouldn't make this any less of a tragedy. We all do stupid things. I do take issue with the family attorney saying it could have been involuntary. That is ridiculous, but I am sure he is laying the groundwork for defending a lawsuit or two.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Nov 1, 2016 -> 01:01 PM) I guess "old news" equals pretty much every sports related place I visit online having a story on this and everybody (well 90%) of the commentators ripping on the Sox for how awful this is? Just wait Dick, it will be "old news" when the Sox are 10 under in July next year and they are struggling to get 20K a night. That's the "old news" for us fans. That the team sucks and is incredibly out of touch. From August 25th. http://www.bizjournals.com/chicago/news/20...k-branding.html Soxtalk thread about the same thing from August 24th. You have more than a few posts in it http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=100501 This isn't news. Everyone knew Nov 1 the name changed. -

You did nothing before then, then tried the pile on a SS2k5 signature move. But let's get this back on track. This is just a horrible thing for the Sox to do to their fans. Now everyone can be happy. -

QUOTE (whitesoxjr27 @ Nov 1, 2016 -> 10:28 AM) I found this on their site. Thank you for your interest in Cubby Bear for the World Series! Here are some things you'll need to know! *Doors open at 11am for all home/away playoff games. *NO reservations or group packages. *We will be charging $100 cover for all HOME games. *All guests must be 21+ And this. http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2016/10/29/wri...g-world-series/ Murphy's blaming the city was great. Since they really didn't want that cover charge money maybe they will donate it to a worthy cause, but I'm guessing not.

QUOTE (SonofaRoache @ Nov 1, 2016 -> 12:42 PM) Well that's probably because the Sox are getting laughed at across the country by the masses. I was in Vegas when it was announced and was asked about it several times while wearing my hat. Each time ended in big laughter from askee. How awful for you. I'm glad you were able to recover. -

QUOTE (SonofaRoache @ Nov 1, 2016 -> 12:26 PM) Yeah that arrow pointing down is fine for a company promoting low rates. Not so for a sports team looking to build up from garbage and years of underachieving. The White Sox aren't using that logo. They are just getting paid to have it painted on the wall at the park. If Guaranteed Rate bought ad space at the scorers table for the Bulls or on the boards for the Hawks, where it would be seen more prominently during games, no one would say anything about the arrow pointing down. -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 1, 2016 -> 10:01 AM) The advertisements involved with a franchise still portray an image of the team. Even though the downward logo has to do with mortgage rates, it still gives a negative image when it's plastered next to the team's logo. It's why no team plays at Bob's Dildos Field. Sure, Bob's Dildos may be the best dildo company in the whole world and everybody has nothing but positive things to say about the company, but you still don't want a big dildo plastered all over your stadium walls, no matter how much revenue it brings in. That is a bad example. Not even close. I personally feel White Sox fans as a whole are sophisticated enough to realize the downward arrow is the logo of a mortgage company, and has the ability to separate that from the team. It's just currently, they don't want to. I do believe if the team had been successful recently, this would be no issue. -

QUOTE (shipps @ Nov 1, 2016 -> 09:36 AM) The context of their business was that they want their customers to believe their rates will be low. Yes, but White Sox fans don't seem to understand it, so why would their customer base understand it? Isn't the downward arrow a sign of a sinking ship? -
QUOTE (shipps @ Nov 1, 2016 -> 09:35 AM) Coley Harvey ESPN Staff Writer All of these people, lined up 10 hours before first pitch in Cleveland, will be disappointed to know no extra World Series tickets will be released today. Many are Cubs fans. Whah whah whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah If I owned a bar around there, I would charge Cubs fans $200 to get in, and another $200 for a seat. Apparently they will pay it, and they must have some cash in their pockets.

Since it is so horrible, can someone explain how Guaranteed Rate was able to build their business from the ground up with a logo with an arrow pointing down?
