  1. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 09:03 AM) But it is indicative of what kind of pitcher he is now and that's what is important when considering he is going on age 31 and a free agent. I give Balta alot of credit because he has been pointing out stats throughout the season that show Shark baits regression, namely K/BB rates plus Shark bait has given up a significant amount of hits compared to seasons past. Some of this can be chalked up to USC and a poor defense but we've seen how Shark bait leaves a ton of pitches hanging over the plate and has been hit hard. Just my opinion but Shark bait has already peaked. I will say that I don't think he will be as bad in the future as he has been this year but he will not be what he once was either. His k-rate is down, but about 1 per 9 innings, so not gigantic. His velocity is pretty much the same, so I think the k-rate being down is more of an indication of bad location and/or pitch selection than declining skill. For some reason, he still is a 2.3 WAR pitcher this season. He will get paid, but not as much as he turned down from the Cubs. BTW, for all the Cubs fans on here, think about how much luck was involved in their rebuild. Arrietta comes out of nowhere, the Astros take Appel instead of Bryant, and Samardzija turns down $85 million. Where are they if those go the other way? That isn't Theo being a genius. That is just the way the ball bounced.
  2. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 08:49 AM) I didn't mean it in a bad way. It was something along the lines of "please learn how to hit a high fastball so you can become a star player". It wasn't rude at all. He just can't take criticism. Why should he? For the love of God, why should he provide a platform for you to criticize? Someone sees it, and takes it farther. The block was an appropriate move. Whether you like him or not as a player, at least show him some respect as a human being. Would you like random people you don't know criticizing you on Twitter?
  3. QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 08:35 AM) i really don't know what went down in miami nor do i care. it is not sox news. but you are right, ozzie does not deserves anything. now lets look at one point i didn't mention. the marlins must have been talking to ozzie before he quit. this was too well planned out. ozzie getting the job right away. so in essence, they both were breaking the rules. the rules that govern the entire baseball for many freaking yrs. here is a question, why does ozzie think he is special to do as he wants. I agree. There is no doubt there was tampering. If KW didn't want Ozzie gone (supposedly he did fire him earlier but JR blocked it) there would have been charges, and I don't see how the Marlins don't get penalized. Ozzie was under contract to the White Sox for another season.
  4. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 06:08 AM) He literally just blocked me on Twitter last night because I told him that he needs to learn how to hit a high fastball. Haha. What a jerk he is. You insult him and he blocks you.
  5. Ozzie quit on the White Sox. In Miami, he embarrassed the team with his Castro comments. There was a story that Loria was irked by Ozzie's work ethic, and the team stunk to the point the Marlins paid him for 3 seasons not to manage their team. I don't see where Ozzie deserves anything.
  6. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 02:33 AM) I knew BEFORE I posted that the sale SGA wasnt on the free game list. You just love to ASSume that I want something more than a free ticket. That's what boggles my mind. You are making a value judgement over soemthing that most people don't even care about! I met a guy sunday that bought almost 20 tickets for the star wars event just for the bobblehead. and he left after I made a trade with him. Are you pissed he took bobbles out of some kid's hand? Even though the sox offer was up for months and was promoted almost every homestand on tv and radio? And that the 1200 ticket cap for the promotion wasn't sold out until august? There are guys selling stacks of bobbles and other sga items on this site. are you having a baby over it? Especially when they likely went through the gates more than once? Seriously. Get a life. I just wanted a free f***ing ticket. The grown up who admitted he wanted to hoard stretch Sales is telling someone to get a life. Nothing else needs to be said. The White Sox can arrange this for you . Why don't you take some underprivileged kids to the stretch Sale game with your extras and just tell them they have to give the toys they have handed to them to you?
  7. 428 ft. I think Hawk would like to buy some lumber from the person measuring
  8. Olt is the first player to Homer for the Cubs and Sox in the same season
  9. Green sox should like this line up.
  10. I have gone to about 40 games this year. There have been some clunkers, but for the most part, I have had a good time.
  11. QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 16, 2015 -> 03:13 PM) Samardzija pitched for the Cubs when they couldn't score him runs. He was an excellent pitcher last year. What he's done this year is not indicative of what kind of pitcher he was before. He has an ERA of nearly 6.00 when the Sox score him at least 6 runs. So even that isn't an excuse this year. He's never been as great as the hype, that is just fact. But he can't possibly be as bad as he's been his last 9 starts. It's not like he's throwing 85. He has just been way too hittable. His locations are horrible.
  12. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 16, 2015 -> 01:35 PM) I don't have a problem with the Sox hanging on to him at the deadline, but I'm not putting it on Samardzija for the Sox not contending this season or even in the second half. The problem is deeper than the players. Since the deadline he is 1-8 with a 9.24 ERA, in 9 starts. That gets a lot of pitchers a new line of work. If you don't want to give him any blame, giving anyone any blame is silly.
  13. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 16, 2015 -> 01:23 PM) I see what you're doing there, but Ventura and the coaching staff still need to go. What I am doing is stating fact. If he pitched average, the team would still be in contention for a WC spot. That really isn't a crazy assumption on July 31st. I am pretty sure if they knew he would be this bad, they would have taken a bag of balls for him, but I think it shows their logic for holding on to him coupled with the reports of fairly weak offers, was pretty sound.
  14. The funny thing is Samardizja's own performance since the deadline is one big thing that killed the White sox. If he was just average, they probably are over .500. I don't see how you can blame the White Sox for thinking he should at least be average the rest of the season.
  15. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Sep 16, 2015 -> 11:32 AM) Gotta imagine the Sox will still give the QO, but at this point there is some risk there. On the flip side, Shark seems checked out. I think he should be done for the year. If he decides to accept the QO (which I still doubt), he better come back hungry next year or he's going to find himself out of baseball pretty quick (or playing for a few million bucks in 2017). I think the risk is very small. Why would Samardzija think next year would be any better for him in the same situation? Someone will pay him a decent wage. Another year like this next year, and he wouldn't get much more than $5 million guaranteed, if that. This obviously isn't the place for him, and I would think he and his agent know that more than anyone.
  16. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Sep 16, 2015 -> 09:17 AM) Guys can we please stop pretending that we KNEW s*** ALL ALONG? Samardzija has had a s***ty year that no one should have predicted, even if you didn't like the original acquisition. You're all lying if you claim you knew he would be this bad. If people knew he would be this bad or even close to it, the White Sox acquire Samardzija thread would have had a much different tone. I do think some thought he was overrated, and didn't buy all the hype. But you are right, there is no way anyone could have thought he would be this bad.
  17. QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 16, 2015 -> 09:09 AM) shark was ready to leave. to me, it seems as he is going thru the motions till the end of the season he is pitching with out any emotion or for me, caring about the results. I think the going through the motions isn't accurate. I will give him competitiveness, and the fact is, he is still pitching for a new contract. It makes no sense that he would basically pack it in right now. He is just lost on the mound, and I guess that makes it look like he's not trying, but it would make zero sense from a lot of perspectives for him not to be fully engaged.
  18. Alexei probably shook off Geo more than Buerhle has ever shaken off a catcher. That was entertaining. Leury looked pretty good as well. I think if Leury ever busted out as a position player, he might want to give pitching a try. While it was fun to watch them, to me, nothing beats Dunn on the mound. His mannerisms were hysterical.
  19. The banner is a jinx. Need to reverse it. Put some guys who are supposed to be bad up there.
  20. You can never have too many Hawkeyes.
  21. I have never been a Samardzija fan, but as much as I have disliked him, and thought he was overhyped before he was ever a White Sox, I know he's not as awful as he has been his last 10 or so starts. He's missing his spots, he's throwing a ton of meatballs. What would his numbers be if he didn't have that hot stretch right before the deadline? The Sox and Shark will both correctly move on this offseason and probably both be better for it. The Sox will have money they earmarked for him to spend elsewhere, Shark will go somewhere with a fresh start and probably will be mediocre over the course of his deal not horrible like he his now.
  22. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 15, 2015 -> 11:56 PM) Wow! Anyone got an explanation for that? The West sucks. I think the White Sox are 19-10 vs. AL West teams.
  23. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Sep 15, 2015 -> 11:11 PM) If you are going to be an administrator of a professional sports team fan message board, and said professional sports team continues to fail as often as the team this board is dedicated to does, then you shouldn't be surprised at the amount of complaints that result. What do you expect from fans after this abysmal season, the three of four before this one, and almost the past entire decade? Sunshine, lollipops, and rainbows everywhere? Complaining comes with the territory on a site like this when passionate fans are continually and rightfully disappointed with the product they support, particularly the one of this past decade. The insanity here is not recognizing that and constantly castigating those who communicate their disappointment over these less-than-desirable results which have come our way for an awful long time now. Didn't you post you were ready to give up your fandom earlier this year? If this is so miserable for you, why don't you put your money where your mouth is and give it up? Unless you like to b**** and moan, which a lot of people do, it makes no sense sticking with something that makes you so miserable. If you go to a restaurant and you think the chef is bad, the owner is an idiot, the food is terrible, do you keep going so you can complain about it on Yelp?
  24. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Sep 15, 2015 -> 10:32 PM) And? What's your f***ing point? I Cnt get my free tix too? Whatever. If you knew the survey wouldn't let you get free tickets to the stretch Sale game, you wouldn't have inquired. My point was made earlier. Trying to hog a toy promotion is pretty lame.
  25. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Sep 15, 2015 -> 07:41 PM) I'm also the guy that posts discount and free ticket codes for sox games. Maybe I want to pump this and HELP some fans go to a game for free? LMAO. You posted YOU wanted free Sox tickets in the opening post.
