  1. Plus he needs a new TV deal. I think this screams of going at it without much help because who would throw money at his franchises?
  2. It's a minor league deal so I shouldn't be bothered, but Machado's friends and family acquisitions, as bad as there were, had a lot more upside than the Pedro friends and family picks. Can Getz at least acquire 1 guy we can be semi-excited about?
  3. Think about how bad the AL Central has been. Then think about how many years the White Sox, with all their advantages, seemed to not even try to compete. MLB should do itself a favor and force JR to get out.
  4. I think it worked out pretty well they traded the pick. I get your position. I just think the Bears maximize their offseaon haul trading the pick, and if Fields doesn't get better, he's at least not terrible, they would probably have 2 high firsts and at least 2 high seconds in 2025 which would be more than enough to get them at the top of the draft again.
  5. Pedro’s comment “and we’re not done” was great too. He can’t be this clueless. What they aren’t done acquiring replacement level and below players? With a legitimate major league organization, Pedro would have been done long ago.
  6. I bet Fields QBR goes up next year if the Bears add Maserati Marv to the mix. If he plays like he played yesterday in playoff games, he’s definitely good enough to win a Super Bowl. I get everyone’s feeling from both sides, but I think the point about the Bears , if they didn’t draft a QB this year, worst case scenario being pretty set with draft capital because of it, to draft one next year.is spot on. It worked pretty well this year. They have Moore, Stevenson, Wright, the first pick this year, and a second next year. They get a similar haul for this pick, and all their bases are covered. I did read an article a few weeks old where ex NFL GMs said Fields would only get the Bears a second or third rounder. The talent is there. I agree he is inconsistent, but he has thrown some unreal balls, and his legs are such a weapon. Maybe I’m drinking the kool aide, but this team isn’t far away from being really good.
  7. I was watching MLBN a month or so ago and they had Ted Simmons on. A HOF catcher back in the era guys through 250 innings a year. Also was a long time executive. He said if he were running a team today he would limit pitchers to 10 batters an appearance. It’s hard to believe you could go through an enitire season like that, but we may be heading that way. I’m sure some team will experiment with 2 or 3 bullpen games a week soon.
  8. I read that earlier and thought it was strange. The good news is I don't think the article gets Omar anywhere.
  9. So why blast me for not understanding or liking the strategy? They trade Cease, while it's a tank move, at least what you get back you can expect to be good. There is not 1 playet Getz has signed or traded for yet, you can EXPECT to be good Right now it looks like they are trying to be historically bad.
  10. I agree. The price was around there from the get go. Every team would be in on him for what the Sox are willing to pay.
  11. I didn’t think competing although the owner indicated it was in the cards. Tanking is different now. The draft position is going to be where teams that win 75-77 games wind up, at best. So if you are signing players for 1 year, you may as well try to be at least mediocre. I really don’t see the purpose in acquiring all bad players. There is nothing to be gained. It’s ironic but the White Sox are wasting a year. Again.
  12. It will be nice when Getz finally acquires a guy you can say should be a good player instead of just hoping. So far, the White Sox have to do a lot of fixing for what has been acquired to be good. It hasn’t been a strength.
  13. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bleedcubbieblue.com/platform/amp/2023/12/20/24009313/nike-changing-mlb-uniforms-2024
  14. There are at least 7 or 8 on the 40 that won't get claimed on waivers. There's another 3 or 4 that really serve no purpose but there is a chance they get claimed, and there are at least another 7 or 8 where a miracle has to happen for any to be useful. That's half the roster that is totally useless, and many more that are more likely useless. The teams problem isn't culture, it's bad players.
  15. Perez is another example of Getz mediocrity in his pervious position. I will give him credit with not being too attached to move on, but we were told for years this guy was an up and Comer
  16. Jerseys have really gone up in popularity the last decade or so. I think the vast majority of fans own at least one jersey of their favorite team. Obviously, the switch from Majestic to Nike a few years ago required many to update their wardrobe. Now Nike is making small changes to all teams’ jersey, obviously to sell even more. All white jerseys will be going to a slightly off white. The numbers and letters on the names on the back will be going smaller, and the overlay on the buttons in front will be more narrow. You will notice teams with piping on the front like the Tigers, those pipes will be much closer together. The good news is if you are OK with the old version, there should be tons available steeply discounted at places like TJ Maxx and Marshall’s soon.
  17. If Lucas Giolito can get $20 million a year for 2 years, JR better sell. He can’t compete. Again I ask, how is what the Sox are currently doing any different or better than actually doing a search for a GM and hiring the best candidate and their actions “wasting a year”. His reason for hiring Getz was that he knew the organization. Considering they thought they had built a sustainable winning contender for years, and what they actually were, wouldn’t logic dictate the White Sox employees didn’t know what they had and what they were? And to think other teams employees know nothing about White Sox current players and prospects, and would need a year to figure it out makes no sense. Other teams know better than the Sox. That has been proven. The only reason they hired Pedro was because he told them what they wanted to hear, and they got what they bought.
  18. This is brilliant. An event at a museum. Keep everyone from actually thinking baseball.
  19. Non playoff bowl games have turned into the Pro Bowl with all the better players sitting out. I think if a player decides to healthy scratch themselves, they should have to return all the NIL money they have collected.
  20. He’s 29, he has a 5 career ERA and his FIP is the same. Chances are, he’s a bad pitcher. The one caveat is he does have some control if somehow he reverts to his best season. Very unlikely. To me I thought, it’s whatever.? JR is showing he lied when he finally made public comments. And they seem to be all in on “culture” thinking everything changes if all the guys they bring in regardless of talent level are nice boys who call their mom every day. For once, I’d like them to identify the problem as either a lack of talent, and they have to improve the talent level, or if they really believe the talent level is fine, the total, utter lack of leadership, and not from players. Pin it on who it should be pinned, their joke of a manager. If the problem is culture, how is he exempt?
  21. Watch Pro Football Weekly on NBCSC. He said he heard it from a really good source. What do you put on a hat before it goes down your gullet?
  22. Rumor out there by Hub that Sean Payton may get fired. Apparently he doesn't get along with the wrong people not to get along with in Denver. He'd look good on rhe west sideline at Soldier Field.
  23. This is reminding me of the Bill Veeck era. Time to sell JR.
