  1. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 03:27 PM) I don't think they would. I think if you consistently contend, you will get fan support. Will they get cranky and will you see some reduction, certainly (look at the 90's Braves and how at times, after years of making the playoffs, fans got complacent wanting / needing more). That said, even those complacent years, they still drew very well. Bottom line, consistent winning is the only true recipe to succeed from an attendance perspective. Sure, some times can succeed anyway, but it takes a very rare situation for a consistent winner to not draw well. And the only real exception I can think of is the Rays, which is point #1 for why they either need a new stadium and / or need to move to another market (not sure that a stadium would do any good). Honestly, if I were MLB and the Sox did all of the things Mark outlined and still couldn't draw, then to be frank, a change would have to be made because that just isn't acceptable. I'll also be honest, I'd probably rather be in the playoffs 10+ times in 20 years (and not win it) then twice in 20 years, but win it once. Bottom line, those other seasons would be miserable and that one season, while amazing, wouldn't make up for the rest. Heck, just look how antsy the entire fanbase is, just 10 years removed from the series. We have been awful the past 3 years and it isn't fun. But at least with White Sox fans, once the Sox won, making the playoffs wasn't good enough. Now maybe it will be for a little while, but it certainly wasn't in 2008. And if you technically make the playoffs as a WC and bow out after 1 game, is that really considered satisfying?
  2. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 03:05 PM) Daniel: I can certainly see both sides especially from an economic / business / attendance stand point. Think the Sox would be having the issues they are having in attendance and media coverage if they made the playoffs in say 2000, 2003 (which they blew), 2005, 2006 (which they blew), 2008, 2010 (which they blew) and 2012 (which they blew) even if they didn't win the title in 2005? It's a very complicated question depending on your perspective I guess. Mark I'll take the win. I am always excited when the Sox make the playoffs, and disappointed when they bow out. There is nothing like winning playoff series though, especially the big one.
  3. Now it's being reported Jared's charity was a sham as well. Never donated any money. Gave most of what it had to his cameraman, and they don't know where the rest went.
  4. For me it's Navarro in a runaway. He actually once complained about run support after a game he allowed 9 earned. One guy who is up there at least if you are talking home fans, Claudell Washington. Opposing fans, Albert Belle can hang with AJ, but it was only 2 years. Other than that, nothing since I have been following is even close.
  5. The Posada scouting report was written while he was in the minors. It wasn't like it was something that kept the White Sox from signing him.
  6. They make money on these preseason games. They aren't going away unless they are turned into regular season games.
  7. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 23, 2015 -> 05:54 PM) Too bad RHB hit over .300 OOPS! i don't know what that has to do with what you posted ans I responded to with fact, but whatever.
  8. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 23, 2015 -> 05:37 PM) Really good and Danks do not belong in the same sentence DA! oK .192/.246/.350 against really sucks because it is John Danks
  9. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 23, 2015 -> 05:25 PM) That's how Ventura manages. Get those starters their 6. A decent manager would have pulled Danks in the 5th. Seager was hittmg Robin left him in for the L/L match up. As Danks has been really good vs. LH this season. It was for the one hitter as Albers was warmed up and ready to go between innings.
  10. I know it shouldn't but it does amaze me how many seem irritated when Danks pitches well,a nd love to go on and on about him when he is pitching poorly. He is a 5th starter. Look around the league. Not many of them are contending for a Cy Young.
  11. Right back in this juego.
  12. I wonder what the Sox record is for the last game of 2 city or more roadtrips the last 10 years vs. League average.
  13. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 23, 2015 -> 03:46 PM) Must have been Gutierrez fault.. A liner to the first baseamn is an exception. Pretty much nothing yo can do about that, but Alexei's play was stupid.
  14. I have never liked hitters wearing shades.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 23, 2015 -> 03:35 PM) That was a pretty tough play for Alexei, all he did was take a couple steps and it was so fast that was it. I can't be all that mad about that one. Yeah he should have taken 1 fewer step but a walking lead and an extra step on contact is pretty normal. Line drives have to go through, especally when it is right in frontof you. He should have been going back to the bag. There is zero way he should have been double off on a limer right at the second baseman unless he was running.
  16. Alexei has been a really good player. But he is pretty baseball dumb.
  17. What is interesting about this report is it was written by Mike Pazik who a couple weeks later would be named the Sox 3rd pitching coach of the 1995 season, replacing Don Cooper who was reassigned to the minor league staff.
  18. MJ wins $8.9 million jury award from Dominick's parent company. Will donate it to Chicago charities.
  19. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Aug 22, 2015 -> 08:05 AM) Actually I think the problem was they had Saladino, Sanchez, Davidson and Johnson all needing a year in AAA but only 3 positions. Maybe the front office figured the offense was questionable coming out of the spring and so they went w the offensive option in Johnson. Or they actually thought Johnson could play in the majors at that point since they also were questionable at 3rd in the spring. Either way, they started the year w some serious infield holes Sanchez is decent but players, especially young ones become very overvalued when they are hot, and undervalued when they are struggling. Patience is not something that is in excess here. Sanchez was written off earlier, should have been sent back to Charlotte. Now, he should have been the starter all along. 2 weeks from now, he may be deemed a top 5 2B in baseball or nothing more than a defensive replacement. Who really knows how he would have done if he was picked over Micah right away? Chances are he would have been sent down if he hit what he hit initially hereand maybe his success now has something to do with his success in Charlotte earlier. We really will never know. He isn't as good as this hot streak. He never was the .150 hitter he looked like earlier.
  20. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 21, 2015 -> 02:53 PM) I can think of 1 major idea he probably doesn't like. (Rebuilding) But he did it with Himes, and a quick one with Schueler. Of course he has not a lot of time to waste. If does seem if Hahn is set on a rebuild and that isn't what JR wants, Hahn probably shouldn't be in his current position. JR does seem to be getting a little cranky in his old age.
  21. I believe Nightengale. I wonder why JR wants a buffer between himself and Hahn, and didn't ever need one with KW. He must not like some of his ideas. I also wonder if there is any chance KW winds up with his old job.
  22. Mike North will be hosting a 3 hour Bears postgame show on 97.1. He also will be talking NFL with Danny Mac on Fridays. Oh boy.
  23. Harry Volkman, whoosh, Tom Skilling before Tom Skilling dead at 89. He came to my grammar school back in the day to talk about weather.
  24. QUOTE (captain54 @ Aug 21, 2015 -> 12:02 PM) Someone had a stat somewhere.. ( Maybe it was Lip) the Sox have lost 15 games this year where the the pitching staff has given up three runs or less over 9 inn… If this is accurate.. with any kind of even average offense and the Sox grabbing 7 of those games.. .they are @.500 and realistically in the hunt for WC 2… I think it's more or less a no brainer… no big news flash, Rick.. the FA approach to plug holes coupled with no young productive position players on the horizon has plunged this franchise into the dark ages… interesting to see if the Chicago Wolves top the White Sox in ST numbers in 2016... Actually, if they won 7 that they lost, they would be 7 over .500.
  25. For a joke my friend and I got the $14 cheap knockoff of these a few years ago on ebay to wear to an event at a game. I have a Chet Lemon, and compared to some of the other disaster counterfeit jerseys, the one I have is pretty spot on. The collar is slightly bigger, but everything else is fine. I will put it on next Thursday. Haven't sported it in about 5 years. I will throw on some blue shorts and really look good.
