I don't think it is a young guy these days vs a young guy 10 or 20 or 30 years ago. Some guys just aren't soundbites.

Even if they don't trade Samardzija by his next start, Johnson still will now line up for the one after that, which, unless they go undefeated until then, you have to think Shark is out the door.

The Indians have played 2 awful games.

QUOTE (gatnom @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 08:31 PM) 36 posts in the 8th inning of a gamethread? Yikes. It is 6-0. Really nothimg to complain about.

QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 08:22 PM) And then LaRoche comes up and hits a weak 2-hopper to 1st for the first out. Advancd the runers. A productive out.

Unlike most Sox prospects, Saladino does look like he has played the game longer than 6 months omce called up. One thing he does have in common with just about every position player they call up, despite having 45 plate appearances, his next walk will the the first of his career.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 04:21 PM) The Bulls were sold-out when Ron Mercer an company were on the team. Yes when they had the worst collective 3 or 4 year winning percentage in NBA history.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 01:15 PM) Interesting. I take the 18th St. bridge whenever I cab it or hit up a local establishment, but I never thought that Chinatown stop was close enough to walk. You could switch to the Green Line now and get off at 22nd and State. It's a pretty new stop, a couple blocks closer than the Red Line.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 12:31 PM) The plantar fasciitis probably didn't help any of that. Doesn't appear it hurt either: “As far as affecting me playing, it doesn’t,” Gillaspie said. “It did a little bit when I first got here, but it’s gone away. Credit to Herm for working hard with me every day on that. “It was pretty sore this winter. I had some problems with it this winter. But it’s really not a big issue now. It could flare up, but we’ve got it pretty well under control.”

Hawk said last night was the first time the Sox had a 4 run lead since June 3rd. That is really incredible.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 07:39 PM) If they don't get the right offer, I see no reason to move either of them. It isn't like they will be expensive next year and are still valuable assets. I also am not making moves because Jones is coming back. He's missed a lot of baseball. I do agree that it makes sense to move our relievers but if someone offers us a heap of junk for them, I'll pass. Exactly. If a Karchner/Garland deal is out there, twke it. But to trade Petricka or Putnam and hope the return eventually turns into Petricka or Putnam, that makes zero sense. the next time a team has too much pitching will be the first.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 07:26 PM) Very true, but I still think Soto could handle a larger workload. And apparently so does Robin, although it's too late in the game for that to make a difference. Maybe he goes with Shark since he is his personal catcher. But Soto slowly but surelynhas been playing more. I just don't think it will be th full load unless Flowers gets hurt.
-
I think limited action has helped Soto, not hurt him.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 03:19 PM) The problem is the options are limited because few teams want to give up impact players on offense now, especially at premium positions. Let's say the White Sox threw the name Domingo Santana out there with Houston, a prospect maybe a notch above Avisail but certainly with bust concerns like all youngsters (Jose Tabata, Snider and now Polanco would come to mind if we were talking about the Pirates' system). Luhnow will give up the Kazmir package 100 times in a row before he parts with a Santana. And that's a GM with a stable of talent that added to the future stockpile this past draft. If you're Hahn, 90% of you is of the belief that a compensation pick's impact will come way too late to save your job the way things are currently setting up with the free agent markets over the next two off-seasons. You also don't have the ability to spend more than this past offseason, and the impact names (Wieters, Gordon, Cespedes, Heyward) are going to cost an arm and a leg. It's almost an impossible solution to solve. Logic dictates that only by substantially improving 3-4 other positions can you have a legit chance of improving the team substantially. On the other hand, the allure of that one big name (Russell Wilson or Cruz this past year) can be quite difficult to pass up. The one thing we do know is that this means trading Quintana or even Sale...and hitting that trade out of the park. The two superstars model didn't get them anywhere last year. Undoubtedly, we will be underwhelmed by any initial trade/compensation outcome because there's simply zero faith in our ability to coach up those A+ and AA hitters and groom them for the majors. Most importantly, there's simply no time to be patient if you go back to that three year window. What ends up happening is you get lesser impact because the ceilings on the near major league ready position players will be lower. The White Sox should do everyone a favor, themselves included, and just fold.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 03:01 PM) I agree with this post and I also say Crasnick's tweet could be a mirade of things and it could have even been the Sox working on keeping any leverage they have (I don't really think they have a lot, in the case of Shark) but they'll do what they can to spin things. I still think we should aggressively look at moving Q and Shark. Would anyone be interested in Shields (if say the Pads would do Danks for Shields and cash (or maybe Danks and LaRoche). It would depend on the cash. Sheilds' contract is tremendously back loaded.

QUOTE (Vance Law @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 02:57 PM) They released JD Martinez last year. If the White Sox made the trade today and got what Oakland got for Kazmir for Shark, the people complaining would still be complaining. Only, instead of "they waited too long", it would have been "what was the rush"

QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 02:03 PM) Yeah we said the same thing about Alex Rios. If I remember correctly we didnt take on a penny. We got pennies back ofcourse. Rios wasn't a rental. Supposedly Hahn said they were spending the savings on international guys.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 01:58 PM) I just want an offensive player who can contribute next year. I don't care if that's considered "narrow minded" or "so Kenny Williams". This pitching staff is a playoff caliber staff.. I would not have been that big a fan of the package from the Kaz deal. If you're gonna waste this pitching staff then you might as well trade off said pitching staff. I agree with the latter. I wouldn't mind a hitter, but if they could somehow get a Hoffman from Toronto...to me that would be a big win. They are going to have to find bats somewhere though.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 01:50 PM) That is the worst. Comp picks went from undervalued to overvalued. The Sox should sell low on Samardzija before settling for that. I would be furious if Jeff Samardzija is on the team August 1st. I think at the very least it should improve the offers you receive. And wouldn't it increase your draft pool? Does anyone know if Oakland is kicking in money in this trade? If not and the White Sox are willing to throw in a couple million, that should improve the return right there.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 01:42 PM) My contacts are condemning behaviors of the FO. This is not a race to trade your asset. Yes, the market is shrinking and yes there are more pitchers available but that doesn't mean you undersell your only good asset on the market. I was saying we should have traded Samardzija earlier regardless of the team's hot streak. I am on record saying so. That doesn't mean that because the supposed top contender for Samardzija paired up with the strangest FO in baseball to trade for a different pitcher means the FO struck out on July 23rd. There are plenty of teams in the market for SP. I do think they should act quickly and move him soon but no trade between the two strangest front offices in baseball will get me to a conclusion that the Sox' FO totally f***ed up the trade deadline here on July 23rd. I have patience and understanding of the process so I won't make rash decisions based on one singular related transaction. Exactly. The rental market shrunk by one, for a package that initially in this thread was thought weak. I agree in I don't know why it is assumed the first trade of the trading season shows peak return value. There are still more teams that need pitchers than there are good pitchers really available.

If the Sox have to hold on they get a draft pick. Still a nice fall back option. I thought Soxtalk loved draft picks.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 01:25 PM) Again, the frustration comes from the reports in regards to the White Sox organization being clueless, not that they missed out on these particular prospects. I am sure the White Sox don't want it in the media they are selling. And couldn't telling a team you may not be interested in selling be a negotiating tool? As much as we would like to think so, JR, Hahn, and KW aren't really all that dumb.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 01:21 PM) Although Kazmir has more of an injury history, he's outperforming Samardzija this year so far. He's paid a tiny bit more, would translate to about $1 million extra in payroll during the last 2 months for Kazmir over Samardzija, but you get a guy performing better who also happens to be a lefty which is always a nice bonus. Hard to believe Samardzija could gather a much bigger return. But you never know. It's like selling tickets on Stubhub. Sometimes people panic and lower the price quickly for a sale while others hold firm and get their price. Sometimes it works out the other way. Is Kazmir a guy Beane would have offered arb? I don't know. Maybe Billy moved early fearing Kazmir might break down. Maybe it is a buyer's market. We don't really know. Right now, I don't see where the draft pick is that much worse than what Beane got. Maybe he needed the salary relief. That's another thing. Maybe the Sox pick up some of Shark's money for a better return. Has it been reported Oakland is doing the same?

QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 01:14 PM) You gotta give up players to get players. I dont see why that isnt getting through to you. How many times was Nottingham mentioned on this site before today? Now all of a sudden, this A ball catcher is something the Sox really needed. It's beyond laughable. If the Sox actually made this trade today, and a couple of days later, another rental was traded for a better known prospect, the complaining would have no end. I am sorry, I am not losing my mind because the Sox didn't acquire some A ball catcher that wasn't even a top 20 Astros prospect before this season began. Maybe I should be. But why don't we wait to see what was acquired and how they turn out before deciding the White Sox blew it? And how do we even know this package was available for Samardjiza?

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 01:11 PM) Mike Ferrin @MikeFerrinSXM 5m5 minutes ago If Nottingham & Mengden reach their ceiling: Astros gave up everyday C & 4/5 starter for 2 mos. of Mid-rotation starter. Seller’s market. The only problem is how many players actually reach the ceilings that were given to them in A ball?
