  1. If you give up Rios you will pay more to replace him. Make the Rangers take 85% of the salary and the Sox get a Top 5 player and another Top 20 prospect and it is a deal. Look at what Swisher got this past offseason. Not sure why the Rangers would claim him, they knew the asking price nine days ago and it should not go down.
  2. As Dick said. If the Rangers put a player on waivers and Houston does not claim them, the Sox do, and then they make the trade. I believe a team has to pay $25,000 to claim a player as well. Sox are not giving Rios away.
  3. How f***ing ironic would it be if the Sox drafted third and the cubs fourth because of the cubs sweep.
  4. Shocker almost impossible to do what he has done the last ten days.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 7, 2013 -> 02:29 PM) Slight? That is a 20% difference. Isn't Monday half price night or did they do away with that?
  6. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Aug 7, 2013 -> 09:15 AM) It's coming down because of United Airlines. It's called the United Center, but almost everyone, even in media, calls it the Madhouse on Madison. It's not to "improve the fan experience" or whatever. I'm actually glad it's coming down. The Madhouse on Madison is now a parking lot slightly northeast of the United Center. Nothing will ever change that, no matter what John McDonough or bandwagon fans would like to think. I have never thought of it as anything but the United Center nor in casual conversation have I heard anyone call it that but the media liked to show it and call it that. I like that it is coming down, I thought it was cheesy. Also twitter is a joke but that it beside the point.
  7. QUOTE (PorkChopExpress @ Aug 7, 2013 -> 10:01 AM) Assuming Sale is the same or better five years from now, and not injured or exposed as not an ace. I like Sale, but I still have this issue with calling him an ace. An ace is someone like Verlander from the last few years (not necessarily this year). Someone who is capable of shutting down any offense. Sale doesn't give me that confidence yet. Again, he's a number 1-type pitcher, but is he an "ace"? Go look at Verlander's stats when he was Sale's age. Sale is well ahead of Verlander in the ace progression.
  8. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 5, 2013 -> 01:32 PM) Really? Guys like Jamie Navarro and D'Angelo Jimenez top that list for me. Probably David Wells too. Dunn is, by all accounts, a great guy who works hard and is productive offensively, even if it is flawed production. Ya Adam Dunn is well down on that list.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 12:43 PM) Yep, and it's 100% the right call They are way behind Detroit and will be for the next year or two. The starting rotation is in place for the next three years at a cost controlled price. The pen can be built around Jones and Reed. There are some positional players that could use some proper coaching. The rebuild is in place and has begun.
  10. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 12:04 PM) As bad as our offense has been, I have a hard time truly feeling like he should go. Before he came, players like Dunn and Rios were among the least valuable assets in MLB. Beckham had had his third straight declining season. Now those guys have become legitimate pieces again. The jury is out on a guy like Dayan, where the way he finishes this season could have a profound effect on the way we view his development. Our most significant decline this season is PK, and I'd like to find the person that believes that is the fault of the hitting coach and not father time. When he was hired he said that OBP was a little overrated or something like that. He should have been shown the door right then and there.
  11. Guy from baseball Prospectus says the Sox got more for Peavy than the cubs got for Garza, take that Theo. Garcia is a legitimate MLB player. The Tigers lost this deal more than anyone. The Sox got an everyday MLB ready outfielder and $20M for Jake Peavy, not bad. If they eat money on Ramirez, Dunn and/or Rios, and get good prospects, now you have something.
  12. The Rangers inquired on his health and Hahn responded, you have seen him bat recently haven't you.
  13. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 04:14 PM) Oh man, the Sox are getting Melvin Mora! He is SOO OLD THOUGH, why dont they get someone younger Like Brian Roberts
  14. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 03:56 PM) Thursday?! Whatever happened to SUMMER VACATION? Blame the Chinese
  15. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 10:19 AM) Lack of grindy speed at the top of the order Plenty of grindy speed there, it is just dumb.
  16. I still do not know how this offense is so woefully bad.
  17. Why does the Susanna Collins ending come to mind when I opened the link.
  18. The fact Crain is is a free agent makes this deal a win/win/win for the Sox, Crain and Tampa....if Crain pitches well.
  19. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 11:35 AM) Cleveland is a horrible team? Do you own a TV. Did you poll your neighbors or co-workers for this bit of info. Neighborhood stray dogs.
  20. Other than Dunn, those other three hitters were a f***ing embarrassment.
  21. Greg, dunn just homered.
  22. If he tags and the ball drops, he may not have scored and the runner at second would have been forced out.
  23. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 27, 2013 -> 08:44 PM) For those of us not watching, what did Rios do? Rios on third one out, sinking liner to right diving catch, Rios did not tag and score and should have. Tough read on the ball.
  24. While Rios is to blame mcewing did not read it either.
  25. Wow is this team dumb. Holland did not get a breaking ball over and yet they gotta swing away.
