  1. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Oct 17, 2011 -> 12:57 PM) Well then the GM should be fired and not the beloved manager if that's the case. He wasn't fired he quit.....and he hasn't been beloved in a few years other than in his own mind
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 14, 2011 -> 08:42 AM) Except at that point he'd only h ave $28 million on his deal. and he would retire
  3. Boston has the leverage here. Theo can resign sit out a year and prolong the rebuilding. Boston should ask for Garza or Castro and settle for Marshall. Isn't there blatant tampering going on here as well? I suppose Boston may have given him permission to talk by why would they? Theo seems like a bit of a loose cannon to me.....should do great up at wrigley.
  4. Kane actually winning faceoffs was not what I expected. I am not sure how the Carcillo thing will play out but for one night it looked really good. The Kaner rant to the fans was good after the game.
  5. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 13, 2011 -> 03:19 PM) Or, more likely, he'll thrive with a higher percentage of money than his direct divisional competition. Say what you will about their cash, but they could never spend close to what the Yankees have... outspending the Cards, Brewers, Pirates, and Astros ain't no thang for the Cubs. yet it was the Rays and their $40M payroll that eliminated them
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 13, 2011 -> 11:26 AM) Buster_ESPN Buster Olney Jim Leyland just announced that Valverde and Benoit will not pitch today. Buster_ESPN Buster Olney Leyland hopes to get through today with Verlander and Coke. Leyland now looks like he is playing for the long term future of the organization. His stance should have been we will see what happens during warm-ups. Benoit and Velverde are having career years pitch them for all they have got left.
  7. Something not being talked about with that move.... inter-league play will occur every day of the season as the leagues will have an odd number of teams. This also will make Carlos lee a long term option in Houston with the DH. Imagine cubs/Sox closing a year with a divisional berth on the line.
  8. i forgot about theo quitting for a couple of months in 2005 and then coming back. He seems a tad full of himself. His failure here will be epic as the minion will not understand rebuilding. starlin isn't exactly a theo saber player.
  9. QUOTE (smalls2598 @ Oct 12, 2011 -> 03:01 PM) One of the guys on my team nearly got us kicked out of the league last year when he was caught drinking a beer in the parking lot before a game. Play in the Chicago park district where you are looked at oddly if you do not have a cooler on your bench. People that do not drink or smoke end up drinking or smoking if they play in this league.
  10. everyone is happy he is coming back that is about all I am getting from this
  11. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Oct 12, 2011 -> 09:06 AM) I agree, but this is a good hire for the Cubs, I wish we had a new GM with fresh ideas unlike KW's SOS circus with the blame the fans attitude! KW's with the I am GOD you are not gets old. Theo has the same attitude that is why he is leaving a $180M payroll to come to the cubs. If he thought the pressure in Boston was intense wait until the entire organization for the cubs is placed in his lap. He will be responsible for rebuilding the organization and infrastructure. He will be responsible for teaching cubdom how things worked in Boston. The thing is the minion will buy into this and the cubs can now suck for two years but Theo will rebuild them....... I hope he finds his Manny Ramirez, Big Papi and Youk.
  12. Theo is so brilliant he needed Bedard, Capuano or Bruce Chen to save he season. He had an open pocket book to get Crawford and some good connections to land AGon for a Jim Hendry song. Unless Theo is a real good counterfeiter it is going to take a little more to get the cubs back on track. .
  13. Jerry Angelo needs to be fired. I think he retires at the end of he year and is replaced by the Bozo he brought in from Washington.
  14. Anybody that buys a ticket or goes to a game for the manger is a moron. Why not give the job to Cooper?
  15. QUOTE (Allsox @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 03:55 PM) Your theory's correct but Jesus Age Christ, when the hell did Robin EVER express any interest in managing? And wouldnt Dave Martinez have come at the same cheap price? I would assume Martinez would as well. Does Ventura have any credentials at all other than playing 3B for the White Sox? His bench coach will be interesting. I am guessing Buddy Bell.
  16. Has Robin Ventura coached anything? uh....oh..... is about all I can say about this move.
  17. I will say about this series. I am kind of enjoying Velverde making Jeter his b****.
  18. He may be looking for a gig in the organization in marketing or something. The guy needs to get work I would assume.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 3, 2011 -> 01:06 AM) So man on third and they don't walk Pujols, lefty pitching. Yes it's Lee, but he's already been hit tonight. Base hit by Albert, winning run scores. So do you all want Manuel fired after what he's done? My point? Folks, all managers make bonehead moves. The players have to bail them out. If they don't, they are bums. You guys would FRY OZZIE for not walking Pujols in that situation. If we lost the series you'd be saying: "All the momentum was lost when Ozzie didn't walk Pujols." And what if New York loses to Detroit? Their fans will be livid? Hey it's 1-1. Leyland was a bum the seasons Minnie kept winning the division. What has the Angels' manager done lately? What happened to Clint Hurdle after being the first half darling? They sucked the second half. It's about the players, baby, not the manager! Wasn't runner on second with two outs? Did Albert whiff the first two times up?
  20. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Oct 2, 2011 -> 02:42 PM) The defense has scored a touch down and blocked a field goal. The special teams has gotten good field position and scored a td. The Bears offense hasnt done anything since the first quarter. Sure its not the best performance the d has had but a defensive td and blocked field goal in a close game isnt a bad effort. With the money and draft picks spent on the defense, they need to be much better than they have been every week. Lovie only has a job because of Dave Toab.
  21. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Oct 2, 2011 -> 02:18 PM) This is a pretty good offense theyre facing right now. They also have a defensive TD and blocked a field goal. Considering that and that we had a punt return td and a kickoff return past the 50 Id say you need more from your offense. The offense does need to do more but the defense is not doing much either. They may easily give up over 550 yards Oh Mike Martz that tricky bites you in the ass again
  22. The Bears are really getting their asses kicked in this game. It is amazing they will still have the lead.
  23. Ok Hester looks to have a shoulder injury. He is so explosive in the return game that I just shake my head that they continue to want us to think is anything other than a bad receiver.
