  1. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 05:34 PM) Any chance we can all agree not to use the term White Flag on this site ever again? The Indians were a far better team and franchise in 1997 and were just waiting to make a move in the division. They won the pennant and ended up just short of their first title since 1954. The concept of the White Flag was a fabrication for headlines more than anything else. The only mistake was JR publicly stating the Sox weren't going to catch Cleveland, even though he was correct. The White Sox were a middling team that year and going nowhere. Kind of like this year. You could not be more correct and it just proves how little the media actually know about sports. This year would be a white flag but all of the teams suck
  2. Konerko and Quentin were the reason the White Sox did not score more today. They looked lost all day sans Quentin's fouls balls in the 8th. Was the umpire as bad as it appeared? Seeemd like Danks had good stuff but was getting no called strikes. It was a really bad game although I upgraded to great seats and it beat work. Dunn looks locked in right now. Could be a good week.
  3. This deal actually looks pretty good as Stewart could be flipped rather easily and gives a prospect to be traded in the next couple of days. The salary relief also helps.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 10:54 AM) Wow, just freaking wow If Toronto is actually giving the Sox money in this deal, it is not bad. Obviously the Cards have the prospects needed to get Rasmus and they are taking on the salary dollars. With Frasor on the books for next year the bullpen looks pretty good going forward. It may be one of the deepest in baseball too bad the asswipe manager thinks throwing more than 2 innings a week is overextending them.
  5. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 10:55 PM) Neither team really gains anything. This trade makes 0 sense. Right? The more I think about it, it really is a pointless deal for both teams. neither is better because of it. Humber could do what Frasor is doing now and Teahen just plain sucks.
  6. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 10:52 PM) Why would Toronto want Jackson unless this a 3 way deal where they are moving Jackson, and then why dont the Sox just move him? Is a team 11 games back really adding a rental? What do the Jays gain from this if Frasor and Jackson are both Type B. They are taking on a boatload of salary too.
  7. Dotel has better numbers than Frasor this year why not just get him back.
  8. so a manger that does not use his bullpen will have the deepest bullpen......you saw tonight the bullpen is not overworked by guillen but he will tell you it is.
  9. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 10:36 PM) really? really? humber has been our best starter by far. if there's one person who can escape criticism - it should be him not a criticism just that there is a very good likelihood that he will tire and wear down
  10. Trading a solid starter for a 6th inning reliever when you do not use relievers in the 6th inning is stupid
  11. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 10:39 PM) For Toronto, yeah. That's the only reason it doesn't make sense. Unless this allows them to take on salary there is no way this move helps this team
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 10:38 PM) This would be a good move. Frasor will help lessen Crain's load. The bullpen should be nails. I don't know what people reastically think the Sox could get for 2 months of Jackson, and they get rid of Teahen's contract. Beautiful if its true. And who replaces him in the rotation?
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 10:33 PM) Well, sounds like we just traded Jackson for a righty reliever then there should be an all out firesale as this season is toast with peavy and humber unable to go more than 5 innings
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 10:30 PM) Yep, if only we had another starter in our organization besides Buerhle, Jackson, Danks and Floyd that can give you a real good 5 innings but might struggle later in games. 6 of 1 half a dozen of another. You bring in Humber in the 6th inning of this game and see where it goes. Real f***ing simple for anyone named named ozzie guillen. Off day thursday allows you to get back on a rotation or skip Peavy's next start and go with Humber which they should do anyway. Cooper and guillen are both looking bad in this situation
  15. it actually is scary how many former players come back to beat he Sox
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 10:17 PM) Hypothetically, would you still say that if the Tigers acquire a starter like Fister and another piece maybe? the innings and pitch counts usually catch up to Verlander in the second half. If they do, that team is screwed. It really is sad how little Peavy and guillen bring to the table compared to a couple of years ago.....rios is a whole other bag of s*** If Dunn is coming around there is plenty to look forward too.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 10:14 PM) I honestly believe people are going to be stunned when they see a new manager here about how bad Ozzie's actually been. come on you really think they hire anyone worth anything they will get another guy that works cheap
  18. Just checking in to point out what was most obviously posted time and again. What is Guillen trying to prove by leaving Peavy in there for 111 pitches. It seems like a pissing match to me between two idiots (guillen v. peavy)
  19. I posted in the De Aza thread I think something happens with Lilli and DeAza and Rios platoon. Also Dunn has looked really good since the KC series........
  20. My thought Lillibridge is let go and DeAza platoons in CF with Rios
  21. If the cubs are as cash strapped as they appear to be. Ramirez to the Sox could save them a ton of money. If the Sox are not taking on money which appears to be the case it is an irrelevant conversation. Moving Ramirez saves them about $5M
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 12:06 PM) He's done that once. twice and neither netted anything and resulted in the wrong berry
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 26, 2011 -> 09:42 AM) Last outing was not a bad outing for Peavy. He threw 5 innings and gave up 1 run. He just has a manager who doesn't understand that his arm starts getting tired after 75 pitches since he missed the better part of 2 seasons. I agree with you but he s*** the bed at home against the Royals. The crowd is not going to care about his arm being tired if he pitches like he did at home against the Royals which was not a good performance. With Humber moving to the pen the casual fan will expect Peavy to pitch as good as Humber did and will not be analyzing everything about the move. Peavy needs a good outing as this is a huge game. Back to .500, 2.5 out and beating Verlander twice in two weeks.
