  1. QUOTE (chunk23 @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 01:42 PM) Well, a lot of people think the Pena-Allen trade was an olive branch gift after the Quentin trade (like Iguchi after the Garcia trade), so maybe Qualls will come cheap as a make up for the Pena-Allen trade. The pieces that were given to AZ for Quentin and Richar were a couple of the pieces that got AZ Dan Haren. The Chris Young trade was a bad one for AZ.
  2. Ramirez has done this all season if Guillen had not addressed it as of yet I have no problem with AJ doing it. AJ's baseball IQ is off the charts in one direction Ramirez' in the other.
  3. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 11:09 AM) Why isnt Becks an All-Star at 3B? 300 avg close to .400 OBP with developing power and a plus glove. Who cares if he is ACTUALLY elected to the game as long as he plays at an All Star level. At this point in time sub-par defense and low power numbers. He does not have a plus glove although he may in a few years.
  4. QUOTE (wsgdf_2 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 10:59 AM) Levels of suckitude. The difference in having Anderson vs Wise on the roster is severely negligible. Anderson + Fields vs Wise + Kotsay? Who knows? But at least Anderson can finally be free of his White Sox shackles and can now unleash his baseball fury on the AL East. It also gets him the hell out of the way for the next round of prospects. Useless veterans are always better than prospects who may figure it out. Wise and Kotasy are not getting any better.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 10:56 AM) They aren't? Most teams are thrilled to pick up guys to try out in AAA even if they just have a 1% chance of reaching their potential. Hell, we've got a couple in AAA for us (JVB, for example). I am talking about the dedication an organization will put into a guy to get them on track. I personally do not think a team will favor a "flyer" pick up over an equally qualified guy that has come up through their system. The Sox will stick with Getz longer than Nix if all things were equal IMHO.
  6. Many players do not get multiple opportunites to succeed, they get one maybe two. Borchard got three. Brian Anderson will hang around for his athleticism and may turn into a Ryan Ludwick, who knows. Teams are not really looking to pick up a guy that has failed elsewhere. Once a player who has never failed before fails, I believe it takes a greater effort than many teams are willing to give to rebuild a guy. Tony LaRussa seems to do it better than anyone.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 08:36 AM) I didn't know that Jenks, Linebrink, MacDougal, Konerko, and Gobble were young, white players out of the minors? I never said Ozzie is racist. There just seems to be a disconnect between him and our minor leaguers (who have just happened to be mostly white of late). I agree that it is not a race thing or even intentional. I think it is a communication and rapport thing. This probably happens more with hispanic players and white or black managers. You also need to remember that Cooper controls the pitchers so Guillen probably does not have anything to do with them. I think Guillen does not handle young players well for whatever reason. Mackowiak over Anderson has nothing to do with race as well as the Darin Erstad experience.
  8. CBS Sports has Norris Hopper and Mark Kotsay on the Sox......are they replacing Fields and Wise?
  9. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 09:47 PM) I would bet any amount of hypothetical money that he will not lose his job this season. Any amount. I agree. Just pointing out that his name will be coming up again. All you need to know about the White Sox is the fact Wise still gets a paycheck with no value and a guy that could play defense is gone.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 09:44 PM) Cardinals and Cubs are probably better than the Tigers/Sox/Twins I do not value the cubs as highly as you especially if Lilly is out longer than one month. They beat s***ty teams but can not beat good teams.
  11. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 09:42 PM) I will be glad to see when we get a fundamentally sound baseball team that knows how to play baseball. Ramirez and Getz were suppossed to be two of these guys.....makes you wonder how much the Sox actually look at the defensive potential of young players....Oh and yes and the only average defender in the organization was given away today for a guy that can barely walk but will somehow patrol CF.
  12. This is what happens when you can not hit or field. Sadly I think it is time for Walker's name to come up again in conversation.
  13. Isn't that the record Jenks tied in 2007 that Gathright got the hit to end?
  14. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 01:38 PM) The last few years of the contract are an afterthought. They could jettison him and he wouldn't count much towards the books. I think under $1M. In other words, I don't think he's going to play all 12 years. Isn't the contract spread evenly over all 12 years whether Hossa is playing or not hence the rationale for a 12 year deal? Kind of like salary cap deferral.
  15. Great the Sox play Boston soon. If Anderson is up he will lite up the Sox no doubt about that. The sad thing is Anderson would have helped with the defense in CF and the post season as there is no need to carry 12 pitchers and he could have replaced one of them for the playoffs. Not a good move in my mind as organizationally the Sox are that much thinner should something happen to Quentin or Podsednik.
  16. Kotsay will replace Fields as he can play first and the OF. He also would lead-off if Podsednik gets hurt or needs a day off which will probably happen soon as he has not had one.
  17. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 11:10 AM) Red flag? I don't recall you trying to chase Dye out of town when he got in Cabrera's face last year. This is barely a blip on the radar, and frankly I'm glad someone did it. I'm getting tired of Alexei's constant brain farts. Agree with you 100%
  18. Would be nice to score after the sixth in these games and keep the Sox bullpen out of the equation. Guarantee that Punto and Gomez average a run and RBI a game.
  19. Worst case scenario Richard throws out of the pen and has both trade value and starting potential both for this year and next. Colon will be on a short lesh. Colon has trade value because there is a team that is relying on Russ Ortiz and Mike Hampton, another that uses Seth Mclung and finally a team running out Todd Wellemeyer. These teams are in the pennent race as much if not moreso than the Sox. Starting pitching is at a premium and Colon has some sort of value to him.
  20. CBS Sports has had Pena warming for the last hour and a half. I can not say enough how bad this offense has been lately. There is no effort at all. Pena all over the place.
  21. Last two outings have been 8 innings, 1 run, 110 plus pitches it really is sad if he is moved to the pen. I can not wait for this game to end.
  22. I thought Granderson should have been Richard's last guy.
