If your gonna whine and jump off a cliff
Harry Chappas replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Last night other than the Timo move was not an issue. It is the Shawn Chacon, Mike Mussina (his ERA was 4) this isn't Mussina circa 1997 here, Gil Meche, Josh Towers, Kyle Lohse, Aaron Small, Wade Miller, Hideo Nomo, games where we have no chance that gets me. These are games where it appeared over before it began. Although we were throughly dominated for 17 innings by Santana. I understand he is good but come on. -
Some issues while reading through the forum this morning. 7 game lead is still nice. We are guaranteed to still be in first on Sept. 1st for what it is worth. Wouldn't Joe Borchard or and god help me greg Norton look good agaisnt a below average righty? The kind that we seem lost against (Towers, Meche, etc.) I am not saying these guys are the answer but what is the purpose of Jon Adkins? Borchard can strike out as much as Rowand and Dye but can still get a run with one swing. I AM NOT SAYING HE IS THE DIFFERENCE, just an option as s***ty as it may be. Who is going to start the DH next week? Someone pitching on 3 days rest???? Does anyone think that Ozzie and Kw really think this thing is done and we have enough to get to the playoffs and hope for the best????? The Timo move last night was disgusting. Why doesn't Ozuna play more??? Jeff Blum????? Ugh.

Sox @ Minneapolis--Game 1--8/23/05
Harry Chappas replied to Ozzie Montana's topic in 2005 Season in Review
The mirage of Sunday (1 inning) is gone, this lead could be gone by next week. Santana is good but why not try to bunt steal or do something to light a fire. This team is horrendous right now. -
Our best pitcher right now is Contreras
Harry Chappas replied to atrain081's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He is as much a gamble as the other four. We do not have a clear cut shut down guy but rather five really good quality guys that give us a shot against anyone. -
I have limited access to other broadcasts mainly cubs and ESPN and I'll tell what Hawk is better than most. Think about how hard it is to be entertaining on television covering one team the whole season. On the national side there is plenty of issues to cover about guys/the team as they are on once in a while (unless you are the Yanks, cubs, or Boston.) On the radio you can fill time with the visual aspects of the game which would be just stupid on television. I think this is why most people would get tired of the same old thing. The cub broadcasters are terrible. Yesterday as they were telling about how good Williamson looks he gives up a three run game ending (essentially) homer. I like the homer side, that is why I am watching the Sox. I think the cliches are becoming a tad much. It seems most people that do not like / hate him, will dislike anyone that is in there. The Griffey thing is bad.

QUOTE(SpringfieldFan @ Aug 22, 2005 -> 09:06 AM) See, now this is where I just want to copy the angry smilie and then hold down the ctrl-v to paste it to fill the screen. KW clearly said he would have the money to make the big move and go for it in July. Assuming Blum isn't KW's idea of a big move, that money was never used. Sure, raises will be given out in 2006, but that had to be part of the plan anyway. In any case, I am still waiting for my major acquisition. SFF So are about 20 other teams.

Twins claim Soriano off waivers
Harry Chappas replied to Frank the Tank 35's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 22, 2005 -> 06:42 AM) All of the above. They are blocking Soriano the hitter not the secondbaseman. Let me ask a question here, if they claim him can there be a trade? Doesn't he have to clear for the Twins to be able to trade him? The Twins can pick him up for the remaining salary and then non-tender him. I thought he had to clear though to be traded. The Rangers can pull him back but then he can't be traded. By Minnesota claiming him, they are now taking all of his salary and not responsible for compensating Texas. Am I correct????? -
Sox v. Yanks 8/19/05 Official Game Thread
Harry Chappas replied to bjm676's topic in 2005 Season in Review
As the Blue Angels (I think it was them) just flew by and scared the crap out of me at work, I had a revalation. The Stealth Bomer will fly over tonight and the adreneline of the sold crowd going nuts from this will begin a six game winning streak and cure all that ails us. Gotta love the air and water show. KW in Stealth mode, gotta love it. KGJ will drop via parachute from a Bi-plane land in RF and all fans 12 and under will recieve a free kitten courtesy of PoleCats. -
QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 12:16 PM) If Hermie takes care of Cuddyer on Tuesday, everything is cool. But we do need to start swinging the bats and manufacturing runs. I will confess that I'm not real thrilled to be facing Mussina, Chacon, Randy Johnson and Santana the next four games. It ain't gonna be easy. Not at all. Don't they get Jared Wright Sunday?

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 09:50 AM) because Harry said it was not a chicago player. Ya I know just stirring the pot.

QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 03:08 PM) yes please. There are way too many threads about this. Why not combine all threads about this losing streak and things that are wrong with the team and solutions and current complaints INTO one thread and stop with the madness, PLEASE. APRECIATE IT. I am thinking Sox talk needs to be just one thread so you can continuously read that one thread. You can never log off though as you sift through the 110 pages created since the last time you were here. He had a thought and posted what is wrong with that? At least it isn't another thread on how waviers are conducted and another pissing match breaks out over who can research more.

Doesn't it cost something to place a claim like $50K???

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 06:54 AM) Adkins sucks ass. But we did have 6 innings to score freaking 1 run to win this thing. Our offense is slumping- KGJ please? It seems like we haven't won a game in weeks- lets at least salvage a game at HOME. Our record at home after the ASG is 6-9. Thats not good. With Santana pitching today and the Yankees coming to town- we might see our division lead shrink to 8 games by Sunday nite. I'm starting to get alittle worried here guys. 6-12 if you include Oakland.

Good things about last night. Bullpen was great even Adkins at least now we know he isn't going to be thought of as an option hopefully never to be heard from again. Baj better be a plane right now. Hermanson is going to blow one once and a while. Iguchi blocked the ump, he couldn't see the play. Dye is the Dye from April talk about looking lost at the plate. The Twins know Crede and Uribe are not Major league hitters and Rowand is somehow this escaped DJ. Can someone explain to Harrleson that Thomas and Everett played at the same time why can't Griffey and Everett. We can not work a count. The Twins won because they foul off good pitches and work a count. This is what Crede, Iguchia nd Uribe need to do but they are incapable. I thought Anderson looked lost but got it together he, Blum and Pyrz looked good. Again Dye, Crede and Uribe utterly lost. We need a bat, big time.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 06:25 AM) IIRC, John Allen is the REds "C.O.O.", and is fully involved in all deals. I'm not sure who the reds "C.E.O." is Schootzie IV.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 11:31 AM) This trade will likely all revert back to whether or not the Reds ownership wants to trade Griffey Jr. I'm not sure why everyone thinks they'll change their mind about 2 weeks after saying no to the trade the first time. If I am the Reds owner and the GM says we are getting Chris Young and Rogo... oh and we are paying $4M a year to get rid of Griffey, I as the owner may say right now. Hell no. Then as a week or so goes buy and more diliberations go by the owner realizes maybe this is a good idea. The thing is the Reds owner really has nothing to lose by nixing the original deal, they are not in the hunt and can trade him in the offseason. Now after a couple of weeks he may be convinced that this is in the Reds best offer. My thought is JR is now involved and future money and what not is the issue. Also there does not seem to be a fan backlash in Cinncy over the idea of trading him. Another ownership concern.

That is the old Scooby Doo Rookie Kelly Wunsch lunchbox thing. Jenks should be brinning that out there.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 11:01 AM) Yeah, get the tougher games out of the way first, then DL him. He'll go on the DL about Aug 30. Atkins is not getting the work to start the doubleheader in Texas McCarthy can come up and start and give us a 6 man rotation for September.
-
Is he the third Japanese player on that team Kaz and the SS from last year? Good for Shingo.
-
I think the point is the Twins are not as formidable as we thought in July and we have over half of the Yanks and Boston games done with and are 4-3. We also have off days each of the weeks in this month which will really help the pen. Good baseball is all we need, no mistakes.
-
NL teams will give up less due to the fact that he is a DH waiting to happen. Do they want him, yes they pay in $$$ and players what an AL will, I don't think so. He wants to be close to home for ST and the season (Houston, Atlanta.) He also seems to like being out of the spotlight (NY). He had a much better offer from Seattle than CIn but didn't like being west coast (Ana). Cleveland has Hafner cheap at DH and is not goign to give up prospects to get him. It is a nice fit but these teams could ahve taken the risk earlier and much easier than now. The Sox are the favorites and the risk is well worth it for them. As for Chris Young his K's look to be way to high at AA with a lower average to really excite me. What about Sean Casey and Aaron Freel under the radar of all of this? They seem like a better deal for the Reds for Rogo and Young.

Paul Konerko and Frank Thomas make more then Griffey this year. They both are unsigned next year. Marte is another contract that may be traded. Win something and they may be brought back. Lose and we get Griffey at 1B/DH next year instead of Konerko. If Everett's option is for $7M next year, I thought I read this, he is not coming back. Remeber how Contrears and Garcia replaced Ordonez last summer. Well KW definitly thinks ahead on $$$ for the next season. Also Griffey and Williams have the same first name, a real ice breaker (Seinfeld reference).
