QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 5, 2013 -> 05:52 PM) It would explain why they made zero deadline moves and could leave them more desperate now. Well I'm getting the feeling that Adam might not make it to them on waivers...not sure about Alex.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 5, 2013 -> 05:45 PM) Stone quite clearly just said that the Rangers were expecting Cruz to appeal his suspension and were caught very off guard when he accepted it. Quite foolish of them unless they offered him an extension to go along with his appeal.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 5, 2013 -> 12:12 PM) So basically, they announced the suspensions the day after the Sox finished a series with Peralta (and he made a game-saving catch in extras yesterday) and ARod's suspension starts the day after he finishes a series with us. It's all part of the TRTR!

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Aug 5, 2013 -> 11:55 AM) I think he single-handedly destroyed our team from suckday one. All of this s*** we are dealing with now is because of Dunn being absolutely brutal in the heart of our order. 2011 and 2012 were lost because of Dunn. I don't know how you could understand the game of baseball and say 2012 was lost because of him.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 5, 2013 -> 11:30 AM) I think moving forward, losing streaks should be treated like winning streaks with regards to game threads, and if the Sox lose, the previous thread starter has to start the next one. If this is already being done, then consider me an idiot. I second this brilliant notion! -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 5, 2013 -> 11:41 AM) This totally is a great post. As bad as Dunn has been at times, guys like Jaime Navarro are in a whole other world of hate. Guys who would blame others for their sucktitude are scumbags. Dunn has always been willing to step to the mic and blame only himself. That is a class act, and reason enough to be respected. Yeah, he's actually one of my favorite White Sox players in recent history.

QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 02:44 PM) I'd like someone to show DA's or my argument wrong about the draft. You can't. There is no consistent correlation between losing and having a productive farm. A week ago when we were speculating about which teams we wanted to trade with because of their great farms who did we turn to? The Rangers (they have a couple pennants and have been competitive for 5 years or so), the Cardinals (who have been winning for years) and the D-Backs (usually middle of the pack). Why are those teams so successful without drafting in the top ten? I'm not sure there is an argument to be made that shows you cannot get a generational type player later in the draft...and there is also no argument to be made which shows you would rather have a terrible team than a competitive one. But if the argument is "Do we want to be pretty darn sucky, or absolutely f***ing sucky?", I don't think it is much of an argument, especially with our fanbase, which doesn't even show up when we are in first place. There is no disputing you would prefer to have a higher pick in the draft than a lower one, and if the only consideration is whether we lose 100 games instead of 92 games, I don't see what the damn difference is. Sucky is sucky. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 12:26 PM) Do you think if not for the existence of children most marriages would ultimately end in divorce? That's it just natural the two people would "get sick of each other" for lack of a better phrase and would split? That the children help the bond between the married people and in effect keep the 2 together and in love? Or do you feel there's a magical bond between married people and they are together forever? I think I told you about my one friend who has been married 5 or so years. He continues to cheat big time. He flew a stripper to Vegas and she stayed with him for 2-3 nights. He remained 4 more nights with buddies who came out to Vegas to party. He also has a pseudo girlfriend or two in Texas. He's not close to getting caught and he insists he loves his wife and will NEVER leave her. They have 2 kids. He also goes out alone one night a week in town here and tells his wife he needs to do it cause of his stressful job. He's had some girls in those situations as well.Is he scum? Does he have a sexual addiction problem? Or is he just a guy who does what he wants and gets away with it cause he makes huge money? He's good around his kids BTW and treats his wife well at all times when they are together and speaks highly of her saying she is the best. I think generally human beings do best in familial groups or tribal groups, whatever the correct archaeological term is, I am sure Balta or SS will fill us in on. I do, however, think it is somewhat unnatural to engage in monogamy. That isn't really how we've evolved and so I think our instincts sometime overrule our brains and morals a bit and the result is often times people cheating.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 09:13 AM) People who've been married for over 5 years understand and accept that there will be times where they feel like strangling their spouse. I don't think this is limited to being married, except for the fact that she is not my spouse yet

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 08:49 AM) I suspect that wasn't the real reason Law decided not to continue his quest. I'm pretty sure he knew the time commitment from the get go. But you said if you worked 80 you would be better, and I'm sure every team has guys who work that, so you are admitting Law, doing what he is doing, is not as good as any current team's evaluators. You made my point. Thank you. But that doesn't mean his opinion is invalid. Maybe he doesn't really evaluate certain areas as much because of his time constraints or whatever. Doesn't mean he doesn't have a solid opinion on a particular player or a group of players relative to what other evaluators have. If I am a lawyer and I work 40 hours workweeks because I work in corporate law, I may know certain aspects of the particular work I focus on just as well or better than a lawyer that works 80 hours a week in his own practice or firm. No one evaluator is going to know everything or everyone. -

I think a large component of all this is just how much of an art player evaluation is than a science. Correctly evaluating players is very much in its infancy still. There is no data that I am aware of, which shows that any one method has proven to be more accurate than another. There is certainly a few "accepted" approaches that have proven to be relatively effective, but this is still quite the crapshoot. I am sure if some particular methodology is proven to produce significantly more accurate results in player evaluation than another, folks that are well-schooled in that method will be high in demand. However, at this time, there is sort of a battle playing out between observing tools and projecting talent (old school scouting) and data compilation (sabermetrics). The best method will probably prove to be some combination of the two. Everyone is still sort of winging it though. -
Montana and Wyoming would definitely be awesome later on in life...not sure if I am ready to be that secluded quite yet though.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 02:10 PM) "I hope he stands strong and gets good value for these players" "WHY DIDNT HE DO ANYTHING!!!!" So much LOL. Yeah, without having any idea what he was being offered, it's really difficult to criticize the guy. From what he has done thus far, and what I know about him, I trust that if anything would have come up that really benefited the Org, he would have pulled the trigger.
