QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 10, 2017 -> 01:44 PM) This is the bottom line. I dunno...I saw the same type of posts about Meadows. If we had accepted a Meadows-headlined deal, I think people would be freaking out about him right now. I'd definitely like an elite headliner, but if it was backed by enough high quality depth I would be willing to entertain a deal without any one particular guy. Problem is, there aren't a whole lot of teams with that kind of system...maybe the Yankees, Braves, and Astros.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 9, 2017 -> 09:20 AM) Rodgers or bust if the Rockies want Quintana. Pint is not nearly good enough to be the headliner at this point. I understand what your point is here, but just in the last 6 months or so, our perspective on so many of these guys' perceived value has been altered. That will certainly happen AFTER many of these guys have been traded to us as well. I've just learned to not overreact as much to any short-term success or struggles of any of these guys.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 5, 2017 -> 08:27 AM) http://www.nbcchicago.com/news/national-in...-432628683.html The Six minute video is worth a watch. I have the History Channel special set to record on my DVR already. Very cool. I think we have discussed this before. The theory where the US knew about this but kept silent in order to build goodwill towards Japan as an ally is interesting.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 4, 2017 -> 04:06 PM) I imagine Verlander's contract and asking price only helps the Sox in the Quintana market. I dunno...it's another option...he's not going to compete with someone who wants the type of asset that Q is, but I'm not sure that more options is ever better.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 4, 2017 -> 10:05 AM) Again that is $50 - 100 million extra dollars the Cubs get because their fans show up. Great. However, the Cubs are a very unique case that the White Sox are very unlikely to realize at any time in the near future. Continuing to mention them in relation to the White Sox' attendance situation is a waste of time and energy. The good thing is, the fans have responded to the new direction, and presumably others will come back if things continue to progress on the field.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jul 4, 2017 -> 09:20 AM) Control Z Ahh, thank you sir.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 4, 2017 -> 09:21 AM) I changed my mind on Q. He's going, and he'll be first- July 26. Ugh...you're trying to kill me?

QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 4, 2017 -> 09:05 AM) Ray Durham. Umm, he wasn't one of the choices.

I voted Melky.

I had a long reply typed out, to which I just accidentally erased because the Microsoft Surface Pro is a piece of s***. I think we need to just let this play out. If we lose value because he continues to rake and we didn't sign him early enough to defray some of that value by taking on risk, than so be it. We'll likely have to move him. Given the contracts to TA and Robert, I'd like them to avoid taking a big risk on him at this point and having it blow up in our faces.

I like his defense and his plate discipline, but I don't think he'll ever hit. But I'm just biased because I don't like his swing. But that could mean nothing. Kind of like how I can't stand the way JJ Hardy throws.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 4, 2017 -> 07:34 AM) I really hope Hahn is seriously considering offers for Avi. If there is even one GM out there in need of OF help that views Avi as a near All-Star talent, then I hope Hahn finds a way to cash in now. For whatever reason, this recent slump has me spooked that the floor is about to fall out from under him. I'm highly doubtful that kind of value exists for him, unless his mother were to own a team.

Wow, I thought Todd got that one.
-
I'm going to pretend like that didn't happen. Great outing, Carlos!

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 3, 2017 -> 08:21 PM) Rodon pitched great. So much better than some of the hacks we throw out there like Pelphrey and Miguel and Holland. Sale, Q and a healthy Rodon woulda made a division winning rotation this year IF you throw in 2 of our prospects: the likes of Fulmer and some of the guys we got in the two trades we made. But you wouldn't have those prospects without trading Sale...and Rodon literally just got back...

QUOTE (Tannerfan @ Jul 3, 2017 -> 07:38 PM) I hate to admit it but I've been watching baseball for over fourty years, and I still don't understand the balk. Neither does Joe West, and he's been one of baseball's best umpires for about that long.
-
QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ Jul 3, 2017 -> 07:32 PM) Agreed. Even if the Nats want the market to develop more before dealing significant resources, Swarzak would instantly be their best reliever and it would only take a marginal prospect to get him. Hell, Jennings could be their closer

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 3, 2017 -> 07:28 PM) I am enjoying this baseball contest tonight I am stuck with the A's broadcast team, but they are one of my favorites. Not a bad evening for a little beisbol.

QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ Jul 3, 2017 -> 07:17 PM) Rodon's stuff is all the way back. He's thrown some filthy sliders tonight. Just needs to get those high fastballs under control a bit.
-
That is much better, Carlos.
-
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 3, 2017 -> 06:58 PM) Gosh is Engel fast
-
Gosh do I hate Engel's swing.

Between Q and Rodon, we may as well bring back El Duque and Contreras and see who can frustrate the hell out of us all more...

The hell they calling up Moncada? THE THREAD

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 3, 2017 -> 03:00 PM) What's the rules in baseball about keeping a Rule V player if they die? This guy here is dead! Then crrossss him off the list!
