  1. QUOTE (everafan @ Feb 23, 2010 -> 10:44 AM) Anyone suspicious that Jones is reportedly in great shape but there haven't been any pictures? You can see him in the second part of the first Garfein interview listed here. He talks to Jones after his interview with Peavy.
  2. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Jan 8, 2010 -> 04:38 PM) Of course not. KW didn't wait and he ended up losing and now we have one of the worst offenses in the majors and Andrew Jones as our DH. What was he suppose to wait for? Sox fans would've been asking for his neck had he chosen to wait this long before signing a left fielder. And how exactly was KW suppose to know that Pods would be forced to settle for what he got? Pods and his agent overplayed their hand IMO, and once Byrd signed with the Cubs, there weren't too many teams looking to sign him.
  3. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Jan 8, 2010 -> 04:29 PM) .304 .353 .412 = $1.75 mil .308 .365 .392 = $4.5 mil WHAT!? You don't really believe that Pods turned down that offer from KW do you? My guess is, Pods wanted at least a 2 year deal for more money,so KW traded for Pierre. Now Pods finds the market for his services shrinking, so had to take a deal somewhere for less than he was asking. I would think that KW would've jumped at the chance to sign Pods for what KC just signed him for.
  4. QUOTE (ozzfest @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 01:24 PM) Everyone is giving me a hard time about this thread..But I realized you guys are all being just as irrational as you say that I am. This White Sox team is mediocre. And we lost Dye and Thome. Two integral pieces to our offense. Look at the phillies. Look at the yankees. Look at the Red Sox. The cardinals. the angels. the dodgers..we wouldn't be able to compete with any of these teams..the list goes on and on....you guys are forgetting what city we live in.....it's not like we live in milwaukee....we live in a major city with fans who will come to the games if you put a great team on the field. The White Sox only fill up the ballpark when they're good, or when the cubs, yanks or red sox come to town. I think it's sad to see all of you accept mediocrity. Kenny Williams is a win now guy....but he is getting way to fancy....if the world series was really the goal...would reinsdorf have said that jake peavy is our FA signing? I don't post much here, but I had to reply to this. How is KW getting too fancy? During the season, he makes a trade for a former Cy Young award winner in Jake Peavy. He upgrades CF from the likes of Brian Anderson/Dewayne Wise in acquring Alex Rios. Rios didn't show much offensively while here, but I'm willing to I've the guy the benefit of the doubt and see what he brings next season. Besides, as I said, he's still an upgrade over what we ran out there the last few seasons. The jury is still out on Teahen, but signing Omar Vizquel and re-signing Kotsay are big moves IMO as far as leadership and bench play go, which were both sorely lacking last season. With Vizquel, the infield defense has been upgraded, while providing as a mentor for both Alexei and Gordon. How is that being fancy? The team still has some holes, but it is Nov. 23rd. The Winter Meetings haven't even happened yet. I think I'd wait until Spring Training before predicting doom and gloom for this team.
  5. QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Mar 31, 2008 -> 09:34 AM) One can only hope that he's ouot for the season. Um...he played in the Civil Rights Game on Saturday. I don't think he's out for the season.
  6. What the hell is going on over there today? Wind blowing out?
  7. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 10:59 AM) Fields hit 23 homers last year...why should he have to win the job? It should be Crede who has to win the spot from Fields and money should have absolutely nothing to do with it. Crede hit 30 homers his last full season ('06). The only reason Fields got the job was because of Crede's injury. And if it's his job to lose, why was he playing the outfield towards the end of the season? As has been mentioned, Crede is a much better defensive 3rd baseman that Fields. And with the uncertainty of the pitching staff this season, the last thing you want is to be giving teams extra outs by putting in a sub-standard defensive 3rd baseman based solely on the fact that he hits homeruns. I'm not saying that Crede shouldn't be traded, but if he's on the roster when the season starts, he should be the starter.
  8. I was hoping to see him when I'm in Tucson for ST. Oh well. My best to him.
  9. QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 24, 2007 -> 12:40 PM) That is the KEY problem here. Thank you for stating that. And that is a player problem, not a GM problem. Although the Kenny detractors will say he should have forseen the fact that those players wouldn't hold up to their end of the bargain. And that is sometimes a legitimate complaint. But I don't see it in the case of many of our players. Those players' whose decline or likelihood of failure was great were guys like Erstad, Pods, Crede- guys who weren't making a large salary. No kidding. I find it amusing KW gets the blame because the players he brought in didn't do their jobs.
  10. QUOTE(maki @ Dec 18, 2007 -> 10:22 AM) roberts may start the season suspended. That's highly doubtful.
  11. QUOTE(Dan Pasqua's Rec Specs @ Nov 29, 2007 -> 03:33 PM) started inside and leaked outside it was passed on from a number of people and got to me. When i heard who it came from it did not sound so far fetched. But im sure many of you think im bs (so be it), but i believe its gonna happen before the meetings. I heard it from a chain of people. but these people seem quite reliable. I'm not calling you a liar, but I'll believe it when I see it. I hope you're right. I don't want Owens or Crisp out there.
  12. QUOTE(PorkChopExpress @ Nov 29, 2007 -> 11:20 AM) Assuming your ranking is accurate, do you think we can still outbid the Angels with the quantity over quality concept. Add two more guys instead of one. Give them Danks, Fields, Sweeney/Owens, Gio, Richar/Getz/Bourgeois/Shelby, and Lucy/Armstrong. They would be getting six players in return, which is a little ridiculous, I know, but we are talking about one of the best hitters to come along in the past decade. Is it too crazy, or just crazy enough? 6 players for Miguel Cabrera? That's insane.
  13. I went Blyleven, Dawson, and Rice.
  14. QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 13, 2007 -> 03:30 PM) The Rev. Jesse Jackson called New York Hymietown. Insulted millions of Jews, scarred them for life, Yet no repercussions. I want everyone on a level playing field. You will not be taken seriously with this hyperbole. And when did Jackson make that comment? 1984. And he was wrong for it, and he apologized. Around the same time Imus was calling Patrick Ewing a "knuckle dragging moron", or calling the Knicks "chest thumping pimps". around that time Imus was calling award winning black journalist Gwen Ifil a "cleaning lady covering the White House". He also told Mike Wallace his comment about his producer being hired to tell n***** jokes that those remarks were off the record. He never apologized for that. Please spare me the "white men get one chance" b.s. It just doesn't fly. If Jackson were to make racist remarks now, he wouldn't get away wtih it anymore than Imus did. I'm sorry if the current mood of the country is to punish those who make racist comments in the media. Poor Michael Richards. Poor Mel Gibson. They didn't deseve to be persecuted for their racist remarks. they should've just been allowed to say what they did without reprucussions. People have looked the other way with this crap for too damn long. it's about time people started paying for the stupidity they spew. As far as reprucussions...what, was Jesse supposed to lose his job? The man was running for President. He didn't win. Those comments certainly didn't help him. Seems like a level playing field to me. One other thing to add...Isaiah Washington of Grey's Anatomy was slammed pretty hard for his homophobic remarks towards T.R. Knight. And he's black.
  15. QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 13, 2007 -> 03:18 PM) Can't have it one way. You want fairness and equality? Then start b****ing about the s*** that all entertainers spew out there. White guys get one chance now, black guys get millions and a free pass. Show me the fairness and equality in that? The next time you feel a black comedian/entertainer has wronged the white race, feel free to post a thread. Or better yet, have someone in the white community make it an issue. The only reason this is even a story is because Jesse and Al decided to make it one, otherwise the country as a whole would've just looked the other way. So again, when you feel wronged by the black community, say something about it.
  16. QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 13, 2007 -> 03:18 PM) Great point. I'm scarred by all the black comedians that tell me I can't jump, dance, etc. call me honky and worse. FIRE THEM ALL. I'm scarred. Can't have it one way. And who said I approve of black comedians ridiculing white people? Where have I ever said that? I think you lower yourself if you have to degrade any group of people. And Imus got one chance? Are you kidding me? Imus has gotten a free pass for years! It's about time that chicken came home to roost.
  17. QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 13, 2007 -> 03:07 PM) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ he called them a name. OMG! What if someone called you a name today? Would you be "scarred for life"? Thank God no one here has ever been called names. I'm getting just a little sick by people blowing this s*** all out of proportion. He called them a name. I suggest everyone here that thinks he's the antiChrist examine their lives and if they called anyone a name, punish themselves as bad as Imus is getting puinished. Hell, if it was that bad, it would be illegal, We have laws for everything else. Again I ask: what did these women do to deserve this? As far as being called a name...it was racist. It was mysogenistic. And it wasn't necessary. I went to school in Louisiana, And was called a n***** to my face. It is demeaning. It is cruel. And I wondered what I did to deserve it. I didn't know the person that called me that. But it hurt. And it scarred me. It does to this day. Yes, it's only a word. But there is so much histroy and hatred behind it. You amy not think being called a "nappy headed ho" is a big thing, but to these women it was. Just because you don't think they should take offense to it doesn't make you right.
  18. I haven't read this entire thread because I about gagged after reading a few responses. I find it amazing that people can just shrug their shoulders at his comments. Basically, you people think "well, he said it. it was wrong. BFD. Get over it." Never mind that he's been getting away with this crap for years. never mind that Mike Wallace confronted him in a 60 Minutes interview about him hiring his producer to "tell n**** jokes". Never mind that he's been comparing blacks to monkeys for years. All you care about is how the media made it a bigger deal than it was, or how Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson led the charge to have him ousted, or how gansta rap is full of references to b****** and ho's. Answer this simple question: what the hell did the ladies of Rutgers do to deserve this? Most of them probably had no idea who the hell Don Imus was before this incident, yet they have to hear or read about him calling them nappy headed ho's on his nationally syndicated radio show. As a black parent, if one of these ladies was my child, I would be extremely pissed off. As a black man, I am extremely pissed off. But here's the deal: you shouldn't have to be black or a woman to be offended by his remarks. I don't like having Sharpton and Jackson as leaders for the black community, but I also don't have a problem with them making this an issue. As extreme as they are, they still have an audience. If the media doesn't make this an issue, then when does it get addressed? In regards to the person who said the ladies of Rutgers shouldn't have made a big deal of it, that it's only words, when does it become a big deal? When someone actually calls them a n***** on the air? Racism is alive an well here in the US. is the media supposed to just ignore when someone with the following Imus has makes disparaging comments about a group of people? Are they supposed to just look away? I applaud the handling of this situation. Just remember: before this got blown up, Imus himself didn't see the big deal. He wasn't remoseful or apologetic right after he made those remarks. He didn't offer any apologies until he realized he may be in danger of losing his job. I for one am glad he got fired. MSNBC and CBS may have only done it because Imus was no longer marketable for them, but they did it nonetheless.
  19. Per the MLB.com scoreboard, the Sox are on top 1-0 going to the bottom of the first. Erstad with a double, Fields with the RBI.
  20. I don't agree with, nor condone what Haradway had to say. It was nasty, mean, bigoted, etc. But I would've had more respect for him if he hadn't apologized. At least he spoke the truth. He wasn't PC, nor sugarcoated his response. His remarks showed why professional athletes don't "out" themselves until after they've retired. And his apology really wasn't an apology. The only thing he apologized for was making the remarks, not that what he said wasn't how he really felt. If you're going to make comments like the ones he made, you need to be ready for the backlash you will receive.
  21. QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 22, 2006 -> 10:08 AM) Besides, it was the Germans* No...they were the ones who bombed Pearl Harbor.
  22. I don't know if this has been mentioned already, but the N-word wasn't what bothered me the most. What bothered me more than that was him saying "Fifty years ago we'd have you upside down with a f***ing fork up your a**." Referencing lynchings is more offensive than the name calling IMO.
  23. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Sep 28, 2006 -> 08:43 AM) Seeing that he was released so quickly from the hospital, I would have to believe that the doctors did not think it was a suicide attempt, or they would have held him for observation for a lot longer. If I had to guess, either she overreacted in her 911 call (which I believe we should end up hearing eventually), or the local police/paramedics treat certain fact patterns as "suicide attempts" until proven otherwise, to make sure the Doctors at the hospital have an idea what they're dealing with. If TO was using supplements with some sort of stimulant, mixing it with pain pills would likely make one pretty loopy. This is my take on it as well. I think she overreacted when she found him out if it, called 911, etc. If anyone looks bad in this whole situation, it's her. I think she panicked when she saw the empty bottle. And TO probably did answer yes to the questions asked...but was he in a proper state to even answer questions? When this all came about, I doubted he tried killing himself. As far as his story...he may be a lot of things...arrogant, narcissistic, etc. But he's never been a liar. His problem has always been he's been too honest, and not knowing when to shut the hell up. All I know is, when the 911 tape is released, and she did say he was depressed, she should be fired on the spot.

    Hilton gets a DUI

No...it was probably the result of her getting buzzed from drinking the Margarita on an empty stomach.
  25. Jeez...and here I thought pitching and defense win championships. Anderson is hiting like Crede when he first made it to the bigs. He's a freakin' rookie! His defense has been stellar, and offensively he's better than he was the first half of the season. Shouldn't he be expecting the same from Pods? Or maybe he's gonna ask Pods to play winter ball as well. Ozzie can be a real idiot sometimes.
