We could have him in CF right now (tear rolls down my eye)
-
That Danks-Sweeney comparison has to be based mostly on the fact they are both lefites and have similar frames. Cause I don't think their games are all that similar just looking at it stat wise, since I haven't seen much of Danks.

I think this song pretty much sums up everything about Dan Hudson...

We gotta get Johnson out of that rotation, he's making it look bad!

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 09:15 PM) Yes, because your beloved Sweeney would be loads better. It's been one month. Swisher has gotten off to a hot start, but for all we know, if he was still here with us, he'd be the same old crappy Swisher of last year. I also sincerely doubt Swisher will come close to keeping up this pace for the rest of the year. I'd gladly take Sweeney in CF with Gio in AAA or even the starting rotation over Swisher anyday.

Carter and Hudson are just a damn great duo right now. Hell, I forgot about Infante who makes it a damn nice trio as well.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 08:20 PM) Lillibridge actually hit a ball to the left side (barely) of the 2nd base bag, somehow, for a single. I'm not entirely sure if Josh is capable of that right now. Hey, and Alexei almost hit one ball to the right of 2nd base today. It's a start! -
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 08:08 PM) or of course not trade Swisher when his value is at his lowest. Swisher is a Gold Glover compared to Pods in CF. or of course never trade for Swisher in the 1st place.

QUOTE (Wanne @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 07:52 PM) I'm sure there could be worse things in life... Genital Warts Rectal Bleeding Exploding Ulcer just to name a few... I'm ok seeing what Pods can do. Hell...try to stay positive that maybe he'll spark the offense. I'd say Owens is like AIDS, it's always bad. But Pods is more like Herpes, and at least some days it's not that bad.
-
Well, I'd take Pods over Owens any day. And if Thome goes on the DL, hopefully we see Allen called up.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 09:31 AM) 1) Because they pitch into the shift...and try to force him to roll over and ground to 2nd. If they threw all the pitches on the outside half of the plate (especially high), he would have many more opportunities to hit homers that way. As far as bunting, I don't know if we want Thome running full out at age 38 and risking more injuries like the heel problem he currently has. It's a lot easier for him to get a walk than learn how to bunt for the first time at his age. 2) In all fairness, Thome has hit at least two homers to the opposite field...and one single to the left side on the ground, and that's just from the games I've watched. I'm not saying Thome can't hit the ball the other way, he sure can. But he never tries. So what if they pitch you inside. As a major league hitter, you should be able to inside out the ball. I'm not saying Thome should become like Pods of the first half of 05 where he did nothing but slap the ball the other way. All I'm saying is when there is no one on and 0-1 out, why not just inside out a swing and push a ball the other way? Try and start a little rally. -

I got a question... Why does Thome continually try and pull the ball when he has the shift on? He's a major league hitter right? He should easily be able to poke one out to the leftside for easy hits. I just don't get why he tries to pull and drive the ball when he is being given practically the whole left side poke the ball through for a hit. Hell, I'd love to see him lay down a bunt, if he knows how. -

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 11:48 PM) He was drawing walks because he wasn't trying to drive the ball, you can tell when he's looking for a walk and when he's trying to hit the ball out, rarely does he put together a good AB and end up with a walk. He's also employed the "don't swing until you get a strike approach" which has led to 3 or 4 4-0 walks which just isn't going to happen in the future. I haven't seen all of his AB's so I don't know, I just glanced at the stats. But tonight he looked god awful. Like I said though, we get someone to teach him to stay on top of the ball and have quick short line drive swings, he'll be a completely different player, IMO. Nothing that great, but not nearly as bad as he is now. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 11:40 PM) I like it, but don't mind Thome 4th because it should theoretically put someone on base 40 pct of the time for Dye/Konerko. Fields batting 2nd is just stupid, and I feel like he's changed his approach because of it. He's worthless if he's just a slap hitter. Yeah, you're right about Thome. He was starting to draw a lot more walks prior to his injury. -

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 11:42 PM) Alexei is 2 for his last 10 and had one of the worst ABs of his career today, he has no business hitting second. With that said, Fields has no business hitting 2nd either and needs to be moved out of there tomorrow. Alexei hit the ball hard today, and he'll always be the type of player who will look good for one at bat and look foolish the next. Right now, I'd say he's our best option in the 2 hole. He's been putting the ball in play and adds more speed to the top of the lineup. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 11:33 PM) BTW, you asked if Owens and Lillibridge will ever contribute offensively. I honestly don't think they'd be a positive offensive contributor in the Frontier League. It's embarrassing to the team and to the fans that they're on the 25 man roster. I can't wait for the day we release Lillibridge, and no one claims him and he ends up leading off for the White Sox a month later. Personally, I got no problem with Lillibridge as a bench player. He's got good speed, and plays solid D at 2B and can play SS as well as CF or LF. He's also walked at a decent rate this year. His problem at bat is that he's trying to act as some power hitter. If someone could convince him to go with the pitches more often and develop more of a line drive swing, he could be a some-what decent hitter, and not god awful as he is now. Like that one ball he hit tonight, he hit it well and it would have been a homer for Q, Dye, or PK, but Lillibridge just doesn't have the power to be taking swings like those. As for Owens... well, yeah, I think everyone knows how I feel about him. -

Would it be too early to put Konerko back in the 4 spot? Right now he's our best hitter, and our best hitter with RISP. But right now he's hitting really good in the 5-6 spot, and we shouldn't want to mess with that... but Dye's been pretty bad the past couple of days. Also, we should really move Fields back down to the 7 or 8 spot. I'd rather have Anderson bat second. Or hopefully with Alexei heating up, he'd be a good option in the 2-hole. If we don't hit again tomorrow, I'd say our friday lineup, if Thome is healthy, should look like: 2B Getz SS Ramirez LF Quentin 1B Konerko DH Thome RF Dye 3B Fields C Pierzynski CF Anderson -
I don't like this one bit, but I'll save it for the filibuster.

QUOTE (Cknolls @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 11:01 AM) Somehow this did not make the news cycle in the conservative Chicago Tribune today. The trib ain't all that conservative anymore... but I guess compared to the Sun Times, anything moderate looks extremely conservative.

I'd like it if MLBN would start showing a lot of college baseball as well, and maybe even get the CWS.

Ah, that's music to my ears... wait, I read that... instead... Ah, naked pictures of hot girls to my eyes. Yeah, that works a lot better.

I got no problem with wanted to update a picture... but at least warn people ahead of time.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Apr 26, 2009 -> 08:55 PM) You should update your Sweeney tracker to include his sub .650 OPS so far this year. I'm purposely waiting until he heats up.

QUOTE (BobDylan @ Apr 26, 2009 -> 11:02 PM) The fact of the matter is that everyone reacts differently to pain. What is to Lou Gherig is not to Chris Getz. Your logic assumes that the pain will stay in that very small area at the tip of his middle finger. While it might, it probably won't. Even something as small as a jammed finger has radiating pain. It wouldn't be out of this world for that injury, rather, the pain, to extend halfway down that finger, if not all the way. Especially if it is irritated in one way or another during the game, one way which almost definitely includes throwing a baseball, something he'll have to do frequently. If throwing was the only concern, I tend to think they wouldn't mention the DL. To rephrase, it isn't necessarily the injury that counts, it's how he reacts to pain. Well, Getz seems like a hard-nosed guy to me and someone who won't let pain affect them. We'll see though.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 26, 2009 -> 09:16 PM) That's a pretty wild reference. Did you follow Lou's career? Just curious referencing a guy who played so long ago. Do some research.
