Edgar Renteria HAS Signed with San Francisco

hopefully Cabrera signs with a team that picks 16 or lower, and before December 1. I don't care if it's the Twins, I want that 1st rounder and sandwich pick. -

My hopes for the BCS: National Championship: Florida vs. Oklahoma This should be a great game. These are easily the top 2 teams in the nation, IMO. Both have very good D's with fantastic offenses. Fiesta Bowl: Texas vs. USC The rematch of the 2006 National Championship-Rose Bowl game. Should be another great game between the two programs. It'll be a whole lot better than seeing USC beat up on the Big Ten once again. Sugar Bowl: Alabama vs. Utah I think the Sugar Bowl would easily choose Utah over Cincinnati. Utah, while it will likely lose by a couple TD's, should be competitive and make it at least a half-way decent game to watch. Who knows, they might even get the upset over Alabama. Rose Bowl: Penn St. vs. Oregon St. The only reason why I think/want Oregon St. to win is so I don't have to see USC dominate the Big Ten again. Penn St. is a very solid team, but USC would more than likely steam roll them, and I really want to see a USC-Texas rematch. So, Penn St. will likely dominate this game vs. Oregon St., but maybe some thoughts of revenge will make this game interesting. Orange Bowl: Georgia Tech/Virginia Tech/Boston College/Florida St. vs. Cincinnati Well this sucks. Cincinnati isn't all that good, and neither are any of the ACC teams. The fact that none of the teams are that good should at least make it at least a close game. I would much prefer watch a game between Ball St. and Boise St., but that's possible. -
Ozzie's response to being asked about Viciedo... http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,2774756.story That's pretty much what most of us figured.

He'll probably just say "As of now our plans are to have Bobby Jenks as our opening day closer in 2009." -
Borbon played at Tennessee and is a prototypical leadoff hitter, and solid defender in CF. The only problem though is he still might not be ready, and would probably be only moved in a big deal. Blanco, I've only seen a few times, but I would pass. He has pretty decent eye and can walk, but he strikes out far too much for my liking, and doesn't hit for much average.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 23, 2008 -> 04:20 PM) Edmonds isn't a bad option in a platoon type role if the Sox make upgrades at other areas. If we get someone like DeJesus to play LF and bat leadoff, I wouldn't mind a platoon of Edmonds and Anderson in CF at all. -

Javy has a no trade clause to go to west coast teams, I believe. -
I've been sick for the past several weeks. I got sick with a cold on halloween day, then that finally went away about 10 days ago, and then a couple days after I got better, I got the flu... so I haven't had the most fun the past month or so.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 22, 2008 -> 03:52 PM) Sonnenstine put up better numbers but I don't think I could stomach watching that guy pitch. Watching him reminded me so much of Ryan Bukvich in 2007 with the way he kept hanging breaking balls up in the zone and somehow getting away with it. Jackson OTOH, if he continues to improve ever so slightly like he has been, is still a #4 or #5 in the big leagues. If he figures it out and adds to his repertoire he's a potential ace.my thoughts exactly.

QUOTE (Cubano @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 11:13 PM) I am a proud Cuban. I always be a Cuban first. Castro does not deter the love of my country. I wish most of the Cuban citizens can have 1/3 of what I have. I wish they can have freedom. I will be always grateful for the USA and its generosity in accepting me here. My daughter was born here. She is an American. I emphasize to her she is an American first and she should be proud of her country. I cheer for the Cuban team. I will be picking on you during the WBC # 2. I will be fighting the Mexican-Americans in here as well. Cuba will play México in March. I cheer for the players. I am 100 % sure that if you ask them privately, they will tell you the following: I want to play in MLB. Cubans follow MLB through Miami stations, friends, etc. When Gerardo Machado and Fulgencio Batista ran the country as right wing dictators, Cubans rooted for their athletes too. Why should not root for them now? I hate the Nitwits in power. I love my country. Many Cubans can not stop talking or thinking about Cuba. I live one hour from Washington D.C.. I work in Maryland. I moved out of Maryland. Too much traffic and too many people. That's pretty much what I thought. You love your country, but you hate the people in charge. Who wouldn't. It is ridiculous how they take away people's freedoms. We can only hope one day that the communist party in Cuba somehow gets over-thrown.

I can't wait until Cuba finally becomes a free country. This is terrible that not only these guys got caught, but they can't even play baseball anymore.
-
that sucks man. I would be shivering in a corner if that happened to me. At least we still have soxtalk to spend numerous hours of time on.

QUOTE (Jimmywins1 @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 08:59 PM) We're stealing all of their players, I'm sure the Sox aren't very well liked there... Cubano lives in America, if I'm not mistaken. Besides, from what I've heard, most Cubans hate Cuba (Cuba as in the government and such, not the land and citizens who live there).

Basically, scouts have said that once his body fills out and he matures, he's suppossed to be a stud. I myself have been skeptical of him, but if we could get him, Pelfry (solid guy, not a stud like some people make him out to be IMO), and Murphy in return, as well as a lot of freed salary room, you do it. Martinez at least has the potential to be a stud, and can be involved in a different deal as he is coveted by most steam I guess. -
he might not have an NFL arm for a QB, but he's a 3rd basemen, and his arm is plenty good for third base. I'm basing this off of seeing him play 3rd base and make every throw, as well as some "wow" ones. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/multimedia...s&ym=200610

If we could get Murphy, Pelfry, and Martinez for Jenks and Vazquez, as well as Edwin Jackson and another piece or two for Dye, as well as one big free agent signing, I'd consider this to be one hell of a successful offseason. -

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 05:21 PM) Why? Street had a better season pretty much across the board, and is 4 years younger. Street also wouldn't necessarily be brought in to close. He's easily the most overrated relief pitcher in baseball. He doesn't have anything and gets by on location and his jerky windup/delivery. It was maddening watching him completely baffle our hitters by throwing dinky breaking balls low and away. Of coure all our hitters were going for the 5 run home run with no one on to win the game, and whiffed, looking like little leaguers. -

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 05:17 PM) Part of me thinks Williams has a standing deal in place with the Rockies to acquire Street, but obviously wants to make sure Jenks is actually dealt before making the move. Ugh, I hope not, unless it's for nothing like Broadway... I'd rather see us sign Brandon Llyon then see us give up anything worth while for Street. -

QUOTE (striker62704 @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 04:49 PM) How do you figure? Sox free up $30mil from the books. They sign, say, Frucal and Lowe. So you are looking at Dye, Jenks, Vazquez for Frucal, Lowe, Pelfrey, Heilman and Murphy. Not bad if you ask me. If I understand correctly, this is real life and not MLB 2k7. Sorry for the asshole comment, but for something like you suggested were to happen, this would be MLB 2k7. -
considering I'm a big fat lineman, this is my favorite time of year.

I believe the soxtalk clocks are 10 minutes fast... anyone else notice this?

someone wanna lend me some money? I'm sick as a dog and don't feel like doing much this weekend, so I need resistance 2 to help me get through it.
