  1. If paying half (no more then 10-11 million) of Contreras salary means getting something good in return, then by all means do it... just my opinion however. If not, then shut him down for the rest of the season or try him out as a really expensive MRP.
  2. QUOTE(Yossarian @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 01:52 PM) I'm not signing. He's guilty, and it's time some quit looking at these guys as anything but what they were. They set Sox baseball back 3 decades. The only one of that bunch of 8 who has my sympathy is Buck Weaver. While he is guilty of having taken the money, he didn't throw any games as he put up monster numbers during the series, the best of anyone playing in it that season.
  3. well, I didn't really care for the contract when it first happened, I could have gone either way to be honest. My dad however knew it was a horrible deal since it should have been obvious Jose wasn't 32 or whatever he said he was back then.
  4. QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 09:48 AM) i can't believe nobody mentioned the NES Zelda....and while it was newer the N64 version was a top video game of all time also... the N64 Goldeneye was easily one of the greatest of all times...it was the first game that had a multiplayer that I played with my friends for literally like 6 hours staright how about Contra for NES? I had a Joe Montana football for Sega that was ridiculously easy and had a bunch of glitches also. the track and field game with the power pad for NES was also a classic theres so many, i could go on and on Oh man, do I have some good memories playing goldeneye with my brothers. I remember at one map it was like a cave and there was a bridge, and we would always throw prox. mines at the bottom of the bridge so you couldn't see them but when someone ran by... BOOM! And I can't forget about Ocarina of Time and Majoro's mask. Two of my favorite games. Perfect Dark was BA as well. I just didn't like how it took that alien turn at the end.
  5. Does MVP 05 count? That game is/will always be classic, and I had a lot of good memories playing that game.
  6. if we can't move Count then he will either be shut down for the rest of the season with some mysterious injury or moved to the pen.
  7. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 12:24 AM) Some people may have had a little hope for Honel, but his last couple of outings out of the pen have pretty much comfirmed he's done as a prospect. Just another fantastic selection from Duane Shaffer. well, we can chalk that one up to injuries. Before his injuries, he seemed like an elite prospect.
  8. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 12:23 AM) Poreda continues to dominate btw....2 innings, 1 hit, 0 runs, 3 k's, 3 groundouts......not sure if they think he's a SP or RP, but he seems ready for Kanny either way. not to excited as he is out of college and a first round pick playing the the lower rookie ball level.
  9. how about we work out some three way trade with the Rangers and Braves. Something where we get Salty, the Braves get Tex, and the Rangers get Dye + prospects... I know, only a pipe dream.
  10. I hope Omar and the Mets will have interest in Count... maybe they think reuniting him with El Duque will do something for him. I doubt it.
  11. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 25, 2007 -> 11:10 PM) His walk AND strikeout totals have been way up lately. Based on what I've seen (I've seen 2 of his starts in the last 6 weeks via MILB), it seems like his 2 seamer has had a LOT more life. Not sure if it's the arm angle or release point or what, but his 2 seamer has been a lot better. Thing is, he doesn't seem to know where it's going at all times, but neither does the hitter, which has led to more k's, more walks, and a lot of pitches. Hopefully he can harness the movement on that 2 seamer though, if he can keep up his recent k splits and get the walk totals down to a modest level, then maybe we have something. First 10 starts: 53 innings, 22 BB, 24 K Last 10 starts: 60 innings, 36 BB, 50 K The thing is, he allowed 59 hits in each of those 10 start stretches, so his ERA rise has been due to the walks obviously. Just get that walk total down a bit and try and keep the K rate up, and he's at least modestly better and can project to a guy that can help for the big club IMO. thank you for the info my good man. IIRC, in the offseason KW said that Broadway was throwing a 2-seamer similar to Garland's. Perhaps now he feels more comfortable to throw it in game situations.
  12. think anyone would be interested in Bukvich? Hopefully we can rid ourselves of Jose somehow. On a different forum a brave fan said he'd trade Jo-Jo Reyes and a B prospect for Contreras, and this wasn't some dummy fan either. But then again, that was before tonight's outing.
  13. QUOTE(AirScott @ Jul 25, 2007 -> 09:05 PM) I feel cheated. The question was, Besides Kenny Rogers, who are the other 3 lefty pitchers to throw perfect games? The answer I came up with was David Wells, Sandy Koufax and Randy Johnson (who threw one in 2004). The answer had no Johnson, but did have Tom Browning. Am I the only one who feels slighted by this? same here. I was watching with my brother and there was no randy johnson, and I was like wtf, and it made me drop everything and go look it up. More great work by the white sox research staff.
  14. The size does concern me a bit, but not in the immediate future but more so when he reaches 30 or so. I could see Gio having a very good run of about 5-6 years until his body starts to wear down and he begins to lose velocity on his fastball.
  15. Broadway has been striking a lot of batters out lately. I think he is probably averaging at least close to 1 K per inning since about June or so. The problem is, for a control pitcher, he hasn't had much control this season. Perhaps he has really been letting it loose and hence why he is issuing more walks.
  16. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Jul 25, 2007 -> 03:02 PM) I agree he needs to somehow increase his contact rate. I'm not sure being more aggressive is a good way to do it. He sees a lot pitches and walks somewhat. It's actually one of his strengths. He definitely has trouble with heat, but the HR off Miller was on a 94 MPH fastball (according to Gameday).Well, he looks at too many pitches right there for strike three. He needs to attack to those pitches instead of hoping the umpire will call it a ball.
  17. fields really needs to work on the K's. He is already over half way to 100. He has a good eye, but he pushes his luck a lot by looking at good pitches. I would like to see him a bit more aggressive up there. And he really needs to learn how to hit the fastball above 90 mph.
  18. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 11:10 PM) If Contreras is dealt I hope Floyd is giving the 5th starter's role for the rest of the season, completely uninterrupted. The Sox aren't going anywhere anyway. If he's terrible for the final 2 months of the season I'd probably be done with him. yeah, I agree... but he has just looked so bad in his two starts.
  19. usually I don't care if we win or lose since this season is over, but it is so fun beating the Tigers and other AL Central teams.
  20. So, what should we make of Gavin Floyd? I am a fan of his, but in his two starts this season he has s*** his pants. If this was a rookie who has little to no ML experience, I wouldn't make to big of a deal of it already, but this guy has had plenty of chances. Should we perhaps move him to the pen? Maybe a move to pen will mean his velocity will go back up to the 94-96 range? Thoughts?
  21. eggy will hopefully dominate as usual.
  22. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 04:14 PM) Umm.. you do realize we are talking about the White Sox here...?? I forgot about that...
  23. QUOTE(beautox @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 03:59 PM) fixed Hanley Ramirez > Jose Reyes Hanley Ramirez = no. 3 hitter, Jose Reyes = leadoff hitter,
  24. Crede will get 5 million next year no matter what. You don't throw 5 million at an injury prone player and risk him getting injured again when you already have possibly a better option available at a fraction of the price.
