Expect Mets to seriously pursue Iguchi
BearSox replied to Gene Honda Civic's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 21, 2007 -> 01:28 PM) It's called a "fluke." I only hope that if Richar's fluke year comes, if it ever comes, it'll be in similar circumstances for us. Actually, the Braves made an adjustment with Harris' stance, and ever since he has dominated... why can't our coaches/management ever make adjustments in things that are obviously not working? -
Lol @ the offense for sucking against Kason freakin Gabbard. His 86 mph fastball/sinker must be something else...

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 11:24 PM) I don't even get mad anymore. I just laugh. I hope Ozzie tanks it on purpose so KW will finally get rid of some of this garbage. same here... I was laughing my ass off in the 8th inning. Either that or the remote through the tv.

Lunch with Ned Colletti and Grady Little
BearSox replied to The Ginger Kid's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
I could see the Dodgers having interest in Uribe as a role player like they did with Lugo last year. I could see them wanting Dye for some pop from the rightside, but I don't see how they would get him in. Maybe they would shift Ethier to CF and move Pierre? Or maybe they'd come up with some platoon where Dye plays plenty of RF and 1B and Loney, Ethier, and Pierre get rest. And they probably have interest in Contreras because after 1-3, they really don't have anything better then Contreras... My dream is for a Contreras, Dye, Uribe and for Kemp and Hu trade... hey, a guy can dream, right? -
The .198 Hinske overshift, Ozzie's brilliance at work

when are they going to air Ozzie's post game comments? I can't stand this listening to PFB anymore. -

If the Mariners want Contreras, let them have him... -

lol @ PFB on the Hinske bunt... "Well, just because he did it on the first one doesn't mean he will do it on the next pitch or the pitch after that." -
Who are some options for us at SS in 2008
BearSox replied to JDsDirtySox's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 04:07 PM) Richar was moved from SS to 2nd because he wasn't a good enough defender. He'll probably be tolerable at 2nd, with good range, but might make the occasional silly error. also, (I think) the reason why he had been playing SS lately in Charlotte was because Thomas Perez, the regular SS, was out due to injury or something. -
who thinks if it was Garland or Buehrle in the same situation as Contreras, they would have been taken out unlike Contreras?

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 08:39 PM) Garland shouldn't be on this ballclub August 1st, yet alone this offseason. Buehrle's extension made that decision all the more clear in my mind. I'm curious, for anyone resistant to the possibility of trading Garland, do you believe this organization signs an extension with him? Is it possible that over 37 million (conservatively) is thrown among Vazquez/Buehrle/Garland? I don't believe this will happen, even with the possibility Gonzalez and Floyd somewhat equalize the salaries. If the choice is unloading Contreras to rid ourselves of his remaining contract, or receiving a generous package for Garland, I'd rather take my chances with Contreras. We need an influx of talented positional prospects more than we need Contreras to pitch for another ballclub. The thought of Williams holding onto Contreras AND receiving a mediocre package for Garland in the offseason is just not a possibility in my mind. He has a job to do. I'll be absolutely furious if nothing is done entering August 1st. Trading Garland just for the hell of trading him is retarted. With a rotation of Buehrle, Garland, Vazquez, Danks, and then Floyd/Gio, we can live without having top prospects in the outfield. We need to trade Contreras for a bag of used baseballs for all I care. And I am officially in the fire Ozzie's ass now wagon. -
QUOTE(Jim Spencer @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 03:15 PM) In the last seven days Ryan has been HOT!!! 11-27 (.407) 4HRs, 15RBIs now, that is a picture of somebody ready to hit!

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 05:19 AM) Gonzalez-Rowand-Sweeney Rowand will take $7-8 mill a year to come back to Chicago, Gonzalez is a piranha, and KW remembers the Sox are rebuilding. And anyone that talks about Owens hitting .320 for a month and using that as justification for him as a starter has to be absolutely kidding themselves. Seriously, if one f***ing month turns a player from piece of the trash heap to starting material then oddammit, let's trade Sweeney for Timo goddamn Perez again. Do you not recall the .339/.413/.500/.913 he put up in June of 2004? More seriously, it's ONE GODDAMN MONTH; Owens is and never will be anything more than a 4th outfielder for a good team or fringe starter for a bad team; if you want him to start, I really thank God KW is the GM amd Ozzie is the manager. KW and Oz do want Owens to start though...

QUOTE(Wanne @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 12:52 AM) Was this supposed to be in green? Dude....seriously. no, cause I am a huge fan of his bat, and I could live with him in LF until after 08 when Thome leaves, then we could place him as the DH.

QUOTE(danman31 @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 02:34 AM) To continue Gene's Sweeney argument, his road numbers look like this: .258/.336/.347. That makes for a .683 OPS, yuck. At least he draws walks, but that's about his only improvement in AAA from a year ago. If he had the same number of at-bats as last year he would have 14 home runs, one more than a year ago. His average is one point higher than last year and his slugging is exactly the same. So again, his walk rate is his only improvement. Granted he has gotten better by the month, but I'm still not sold on him ever being anything more than an average starter in the Majors. How dare you ...

Chris who? Paulie (like Sweeney) rocks my socks. And it is so good to stick it to those red cubs every once in a while. Hopefully we can sweep them.

I love PK, fyi...

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jul 19, 2007 -> 10:25 PM) which was preceded by a stretch where Sweeney walked about 8 times in 6 games. You could tell he was seeing the ball well, but the results (outside of OBP) really weren't there. I'd still feel better if these HRs came on the road. That's 22 AAA HRs for Sweeney, 5 of them have come away from the bandbox. does it really matter... It isn't like he will be playing in a pitchers dream park when he comes up. The dimensions in Charlotte aren't very different then the ones in the cell (judging by gameday), where he will play half of his games. I could live with him hitting 15-20 homers at home but only 5-10 on the road as long as he can keep the average, obp, and run producing up. Also, Sweeney rocks my socks.
-
I'd take him.... place him in the pen...

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 19, 2007 -> 04:50 PM) I'd package Conteras & Dye as well as a reliever (even Thornton) for Hu and Eithier/Kemp. so would I... but would the Dodgers (I doubt it)

Miscellaneous "White Sox" Trade Notes
BearSox replied to Kalapse's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
a lot of Uribe rumors been flying around (not picking up his option/looking for replacements). -
all likely hood it will be Owens - Rowand - Sweeney... I really want Conor Jackson in LF now though...
-
poop... now I'm sad

I'm gonna go get NCAA 08 in about an hour... I can't wait.

QUOTE(striker62704 @ Jul 18, 2007 -> 10:28 AM) Conor Jackson to left = Carlos Lee to left but without the attitude.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 18, 2007 -> 02:27 AM) Quentin is twice the prospect Jackson is. Quentin has shown he can hit for power at the major league level, has good speed, and a very strong arm and would be the best player in the Sox outfield next year (if you factor in the loss of Jermaine Dye). Of course most anyone would be the best player in the outfield once Dye leaves. I'll take Quentin every day of the week over Jackson. Although I'd be willing to admit that Jackson is more of a sure thing to be a decent every day player. Jackson is the better hitter, by far, IMO. Better eye, doesn't strike out a lot (well, in this day and age at least), and hits for a high average. I'd be perfectly content with 20 homers from him. And after 08 when Thome leaves, we put Jackson in the DH spot. I like Quentin, and he does have better tools, but I'd like to see a hitter brought in. Just my two cents.
