Leury sitting there ticked off even though it was looking like another ticket to some extra PT for him. #teamplayer

My unsettled feeling about TA' s status better just be an overreaction.

So what does it mean that 8 of the nine squares in Luis' strike zone graphic are red??? Lol
-
Referring to Renteria maybe?

I've said it before. Championship teams need a guy like Leury available to sub off their bench. Losing teams need a guy like Leury as an everyday starter.

Giolito exits early, will miss at least one start

Could it possibly be due to both? Just spitballing here... -

Jimmy Piersall used to call it playing "loosey goosey" when they do this late in the year when they have nothing to lose and no pressure. Of course he would always be using the term to refer to the Sox. -

If Gio is hurt someone might soon be regretting all those 12 pitches and done Kopech appearances... -

Does anyone else get annoyed when you try to pick the gameday matchup from the top of the mlb screen on your phone and it nearly always picks the wrong game...or tries to launch mlbtv for it instead? Ok rant over, back to your regularly scheduled commentary and hot takes. -

Well said, thanks man. -
Amazing how that works. Got well just in time. What coincidence.

So why did MLB change the term from Disabled List to Injury List? Was it some political correctness thing or something? -
Have we ever had a player with as much raw talent as Luis Robert?
SpringfieldFan replied to lostfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think the key will be whether Robert has too much raw athletic talent for his body to withstand. If so, look out. -

Yes, fair point. Of course if I am going back for Bo I should include Griffey, Jr. as well. Anyway, I suppose this probably all belongs in a thread of its own... -

I am 53. I recall Dick (Richie) Allen was an absolute idol although I was too young to judge his talent. The jersey day promotion was a red pinstripe with his number, and it was just a t-shirt. Wish I had it today. -

This is a tough question because I can only answer according to the players I have witnessed. I saw Dick Allen but was to young to judge talent so I would say Luis has the most raw talent. Imagine you were given a hat with these names and you get to keep the name you draw. Which would you hope you pick? Luis Ohtoni Tatis, Jr. Trout A young healthy Bo Jackson -
I saw the title of this thread and first thought it was because TLR was retiring or something.

Kimbrell is an elite closer. Now he doesn't close. I think it's probably that simple. By the way, do great closers command more on the market than great setup men come contact time? Just trying to get a handle on this from Kimbrell's perspective...

I can't argue with that. It is true that injuries, fatigue etc. will happen and you will be lucky to have the your best team on paper in the field for you on a given day. However, my point was that you might not be doing yourself any favors by intentionally scrambling things up every day on top of it all. I'm just big on regularity in sport that is so fine tuned. That said, erring too far the other way and winding up with key pieces out for good come playoff time is unforgiveable. Mileage may vary on just where that sweet spot is.

I understand that but I think the operative word for me is "gel". The lineup that this team hopes to take through the playoffs, and wants to leverage to its maximum potentential, has been put on the field how many times this year? Once or twice maybe? Doesn't your offensive mindset and approach in an at bat depend on where you bat in the lineup, and who would typically be on the bases when you're up? Won't you likely see different pitch sequencing depending on who is hitting behind you? For heavens sake, if Eloy is in left field, won't your CF, 3B, and SS likely need to have a different mindset prepared for when balls are hit to that area? The players ability to best respond to all those (and many more) factors would be maximized if it has become second nature in a lineup that has had a summer to gel together. My $.02
