  1. I haven't looked at the standings in weeks. I haven't memorized the schedule for the next couple weeks. I haven't thought about playoff chances. We made two passes through Chicago this summer and didn't catch a game (I assume tickets were available lol). Cancelled my MLB package and Athletic. Didn't check to see if they were playing in any cities our road trip took us near. Drove from Texas to Maine and never listened to a game. I'm planning on cancelling my sat radio as well. It's happened a couple times before. Late 80s when my kids were born. Again around the turn of the century when I moved to Texas. But I always knew I'd be back. This time, maybe not. I thought during retirement I'd spend a couple weeks following the team on a road trip and catch spring training every year. Now I'm thinking I'll be a bandwagon jumper if they ever rebound in my lifetime. I'm thinking Omaha will be my new favorite baseball party each year.
  2. What if this is the blown up version? It's the crappy lineup to build draft picks.
  3. https://blockclubchicago.org/2023/04/25/new-white-sox-mascot-meet-the-stray-sox-park-cat-adopted-by-team-photographer/ We couldn't even get that right. We stopped the feline revolution.
  4. There was a time, up until about three years ago, I just enjoyed watching the games. I assumed we were about an average franchise. Then I saw the facts and it's been a downward spiral. I guess fooling myself for fifty or so years was a positive. But that's as a fan. As a reporter i think it's much different. Do you want to cover a WS team? Probably, it gets your by line out there more. But covering crap teams probably isn't that bad. You do get to see the opposition.
  5. Sorry you'll miss my appreciation for your comment. JR got it right once with this team, he'll do it again. But a sale to a ownership group that will move it to it's own market would be interesting. Oakland has a stadium in need of a tenant.
  6. Everyday tasks that remind me of the Sox. "Whose turn is it to take out the garbage? It's starting to smell!"
  7. He'll figure it out one day and be his old self. Just have confidence. If you don't like the lineup see Jerry.
  8. Shitfest 2024 coming soon.
  9. We all fell in love with a franchise that makes the playoffs once a decade and wins a WS once a century . . . why do we want that to change? Keep everyone.
  10. Here's an idea. What would it hurt if they bring back an all star lineup? Dah Coach, Q, a HoF guy, and Phil, all sitting along side Oz. Sadly, it couldn't hurt, this team is that bad. G-man you know all the ways it could hurt. But I admire how you play dumb as a fox. I bet you were a huge Columbo fan back in the day.
  11. Meanwhile 500 refugees went missing at sea and no one looked for them.
  12. Everything to know about Victor Wembanyama's Spurs dinner at Bliss, including that epic photo https://www.expressnews.com/sports/spurs/article/victor-wembanyama-spurs-blissful-beginning-18168289.php By the way, It's one of my favorite restaurants.
  13. What could go wrong with hiring a guy who has been out of the game for a long time, a history of drinking to excess, inflammatory rhetoric, and quitting on his team mid season when presented with a job offer from another team? Perfect JR move.
  14. This team would have been infinitely better with him in the dugout. So good in fact there would be dozens of threads declaring this is a team that should easily win the division except TLR is blocking them with poor managing.
  15. I think he's the classic baseball lifer who will make a great coach/ manager
  16. I really want to agree with you, and in a couple divisions it's kind of true, but in the AL Central? No. The easiest part is beating this collection of shallow, little talent, teams. The hard part is beating teams from much better divisions. You're saying the hard part is beating the Guardians, Tigers, and Twins and the easy part is getting hot and beating the Rays, Orioles, Rangers, Astros, Angels?! The hardest part is accepting this team sucks. The easy part is finding less aggravating things to do like chat with telemarketers about extending my car warranty or Medicare supplements.
  17. Would admitting that publicly put him in a better or worst position to negotiate with other teams? Hey my guys are crap! Come get them!
  18. Charities to support, wealth to pass down.
  19. Me too. Plus I can spend the proceeds easier than equity.
  20. Who here would want to take a billion dollar profit if they had to pay $200 mil in taxes? That's crazy. It's only a $800 million net. Plus having your net worth tied up in the team keeps you from using it.
  21. Partner with the Bears, go to Arlington, win the suburban casual fan dollar.
  22. That's what I was thinking. Each major has it's own personality and making par matter is The US Open. Low scoring, player friendly is the PGA. The Masters is all about playing the same great course. THE OPEN is all about links and history. The John Deere Quad Cities is about not being a major lol. Although I think scoring should fit the venue. If you play it at LACC tricking it up for even par would destroy what that course is.
  23. I take everything back I said about our system. Look how they developed this guy!! Woo Woo Until next week. A week or two of film and the opposition will zero in on his weaknesses and we'll be back to reality. Yermin is a free agent right now. Be realistic.
  24. Then a better franchise could move in. Even an expansion would be better. Make him earn back some fans. It may also have been hyperbole.
