  1. Parts of El Paso are nasty, but just north of downtown are some wonderful areas and as soon as you leave the city, great places to visit. Dallas/Fort Worth is nice. I loved working and visiting the area. Houston is dirty and smelly from the refineries. I really enjoy San Antonio - the riverwalk is a great place to hang out, if you could get rid of the tourists. Amarillo, Midland/Odessa, Lubbock is a walk back in time. West Texas in general is the old West in a lot of ways. Some embarrassing red necks and I use that term specifically, no other way to give y'all the image. Kap nailed this one, Lots and lots of liberals for Kap to scream at My son attends Texas State University in San Marcos, halfway between Austin and San Antonio. Hill Country is incredible. With Texas being so big, and geographically diverse the cities all have a distinct feel. But I will eventually move to the Austin area, I just have to drop 50 pounds to fit in.
  2. I just can't get worked up over the ad prices that were charged. It was a published rate, the only difference was they picked the date, a date it could have run anyways. If it was a weekend only rate and it ran on Sunday, that would raise more eyebrows. I'll also bet advertising has done this before for advertisers. And I would be more concerned if it could be proven the Editors where somehow involved. I also find it interesting that conservatives are quick to call Rush, and the rest of the GOP Radio Network entertainers and so much different than editorial content, then quickly claim no differences between paid advertising and editorial.
  3. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 30, 2007 -> 10:28 PM) If they take anything but an olineman in the first round I'll throw up. In fact, I think they should take at least 3 lineman in the first day (one tackle and two guards...the tackle being the first rounder). I'd agree but it will depend on their draft position, if they somehow have a top eight or ten pick, I'd like to see a trade down and bolster the line, but if they can't move down, I'd go for a skill position.
  4. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Sep 30, 2007 -> 11:09 PM) For the love of God; Bonds has to sign elsewhere ASAP. The season was over months ago, but I don't think a total overhaul is necessary.
  5. btw, my ex-wife would agree, she had great in-laws
  6. I honor these people with my support, being certain they are not risking life and limb needlessly and working to bring them home as quickly as possible. As Kap as said, where the hell is personal responsibility? Tell the Iraqis we'll be back to rebuild when they can police themselves.
  7. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Sep 30, 2007 -> 09:40 PM) So I'm 100% positive I have a legit Jordan bball. However, somewhere out there 2 poor souls have a ball that is autographed by my uncle. I read a long time ago that if MJ had actualkly signed all the items people claimed he signed, it would have taken him 60 years.
  8. QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Sep 30, 2007 -> 11:03 PM) Tex, you lead a sheltered life. I worked for several newspapers. I think it's funny if moveon paid the extra $40,000 you guys would not be complaining
  9. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 01:12 AM) Oh yes, of course. my bad. They will admit that moveon.org got a price break that it shouldn't have, but they are using the standard excuse of "laziness and a simple billing error". I should have known better to credit them with any type of transparency. . Advertising is not an editorial decision. Do you think the editors look at the Macy's ad each week? So you're comparing a decision a sales rep made to Rush's comments? So Rush is equal to a sales rep for the NYT? OK, maybe we can agree on something.
  10. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Sep 30, 2007 -> 10:06 PM) It was a political ad that the New York Times gave a massive discount to because they agreed with the politics of thus mentioned ad. That is an illegal campaign contribution. The times even admitted this after they got caught. None of the articles I found gave that explanation, do you have a link?
  11. He does deserve a couple more starts, and of course it is impossible to say with certainty that Rex would have done worse or better. But as most people predicted, it wasn't much of a difference. And doesn't history tell us it rarely is that big of a difference?
  12. QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Sep 29, 2007 -> 11:59 PM) His dedication to poverty reduction on the government dime, you mean. How much has he donated to charity himself? That would be true dedication to poverty reduction. Maybe a sizable donation to help feed and shelter the homeless (that he helped to make with the subprime loans). It's easy to be compassionate with other people's money. A little harder to do so with you own. I guess that would be the donation to Habitat for Humanity
  13. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Sep 30, 2007 -> 04:55 PM) So are you admitting that the Rush Limbaugh show and the New York Times have basically dropped to the same levels? It just shows the state of that once respected newspaper.... they should now be held to the same standards as a political shock jock. I thought one was a paid for advertisement produced by moveon.org and Rush was himself talking?? I guess I'm confused now.

    Tattoos

http://www.tomsjokes.com/en/pics/116366310718723.html I read somewhere that the most often removed tattoos are names, followed by gang symbols. Makes sense I guess.
  15. Let's see how he does after a couple more starts. After all he does have that splashy career rating. BTW, and since Brett Favre is in the news, his QG rating is only a couple notches about Griase's. 85.5 v. 86.05 and 17th place versus 15th place.
  16. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 30, 2007 -> 11:27 AM) Every time KW opens his mouth, especially when he says "we're fine with what we have", you have to ask yourself... why would he go out there and say "we're trading half the team"? All that would accomplish is put him in a weaker position of negotiation. I'd be shocked if there weren't multiple big moves this offseason. Looking at the 2007 Opening Day roster, and comparing it to the 2008 one (once its done), I'd bet you will see 7 or 8 new faces. Somewhere between K-Dubs comments and yours is reality. I think we'll see at least one of the "untouchables" touched to fill two holes. I don't see 7 or 8 new faces, four or five, including two or three starters max.
  17. Just like the pro-war folks should grab a gun and go fight? I assume he's paying taxes, so this would be his money also. Unlike tax cuts where politicians vote themselves lower taxes.
  18. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Sep 29, 2007 -> 03:56 PM) I'm happy with keeping AJ around. His numbers aren't spectacular, but he's not a hole for us. And before AJ, the Sox have always had a hole at catcher. We have no one waiting in the wings, and overall, I'd still consider AJ an asset to the club. Not much to add. I also like having a catcher with experience around the team. Absent a huge upgrade, I'll take experience over a small performance upgrade. Something I don't value as much as in say, left field.
  19. Keep repeating, the Cubs only win today to make losing tomorrow that much more painful.
  20. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 29, 2007 -> 11:57 AM) Get out and go for a hike with your sister-in-law, you big lardass tub of goo. Hiking, diving, canoeing/kayaking are among the things I most like to do. What the hell are you complaining about? QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 29, 2007 -> 01:29 PM) Hiking is cool, provided it's in the right environment. I know some that would consider a stroll on a paved path in forest preserve a "hike." IMO, hikes should contain limited to zero time on pavement and should ideally have a midpoint/end at some scenic destination. Gorp rules. These guys are wrong. Stay out of the woods, it's bad enough I can't shake you in cyberspace
  21. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 29, 2007 -> 03:03 PM) That's fine, but you can't deny what he did for a living, or his open track record. It amazes me what a pedistal these people get put on and how much they get defended when they have a (D) behind their name. He "cares" about the poor and underpriveledged, yea. TWO AMERICAS! Uh huh. Only if it benefits him. And before anyone starts, I'm just as critical of the Re-pube-licans. So it does matter who a lawyer represents? If it's an organization that fronts for the Iranian government Good! If it's people who have been injured on accidents, Bad!? And I love the "I hate both sides"

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Sep 29, 2007 -> 05:33 PM) Why do people get their own names tattooed on their bodies? Is it in case they forget? Or a wive or husband's name. I can see getting married, buying a house, having a few kids, but a tattoo!? It's so permanent
  23. Too bad they do not have some oil. we might have been able to help them.
  24. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 28, 2007 -> 09:05 PM) John Edwards is THE f***tard of f***tards. How can ANYONE support this asshole? 5 Yards for unnecessary roughness, repeat third down.
