Suddenly I started singing . . . Muskrat, muskrat candlelight Doin’ the town and doin’ it right In the evenin’ It’s pretty pleasin’ Muskrat susie, muskrat sam Do the jitterbug out in muskrat land And they shimmy And sammy’s so skinny And they whirled and they twirled and they tangoed Singin’ and jingin’ the jango Floatin’ like the heavens above It looks like muskrat love Nibbling on bacon, chewin’ on cheese Sammy says to susie honey, would you please be my missus? And she say yes With her kisses And now he’s ticklin’ her fancy Rubbin’ her toes Muzzle to muzzle, now anything goes As they wriggle, and sue starts to giggle And they whirled and they twirled and they tangoed Singin’ and jingin’ the jango Floatin’ like the heavens above It looks like muskrat love La da da da da ...

QUOTE(False Alarm @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 09:44 AM) "my friend leonard." it's about a friend he made in jail. he was in jail for, like, half an hour. LMAO I'm really starting to like this guy.

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 12:08 PM) Also, Austin drivers...maybe it's just like this in Texas, but I have NEVER seen such horrible drivers in my whole life...and I learned how to drive in Chicago, around Devon, if you know what I'm sayin'! Come on down about 200 miles south. Austin is a dream compared to the border. Driving norms are a bit different all over the US and Mexico. So we put winter Texans and Mexican together and watch the fun. Biggest difference. In Mexico, if you are merging onto a busier road, you are expected to stop on the ramp and wait for an opening. In the US, it's hit the gas and make an opening. Imagine the fun of drivers mixing and matching those techniques. There are so many accidents on both sides of the border because of the different norms.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 09:37 AM) I'm neutral toward Oprah, but I think it's funny how all the haters are jumping all over her about this. When you read a book that is non fiction, do you assume everything in it is true or do you question it? I'm not familiar with her whole Book Club thing. Does she have a responsibility to verify facts? She kept defending him against the critics. She even went on Larry King and defended the guy. It would embarass anyone to stick your neck out and your reputation, only to find out you'e been conned and you helped sell the con to millions. Her book club recomendation means an almost guaranteed million selling book. She has become one of the most powerful literary critics around.

When one or two guys leave and take shots at the organization, I figure it's just bitterness, etc. When it's all but a couple, I wonder if the organization has comunication problems, or it's just the nature of the beast. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 09:21 AM) BTW, im reading his book right now, and its really good. I couldnt give a f*** what oprah says. Oprah loved it, and defended it until the truth was overwhelming that he lied. She was his #1 supporter. Does it bother you that what he presents as the truth, are actually lies? That most of that didn't happen?

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 09:16 AM) The armor we currently have consists of a vest which, by itself can stop 9mm rounds and such. When you add the ceramic plates that US soldiers wear now they stop rounds up to and including 7.62 rounds which are fired from AK 47'S and RPK machine guns. I've been hearing that many guys don't like wearing them, that they feel it increases their risk because it makes them less mobile, slower, and encourages head shots.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ The first time I had an armadillo pushing his nose at my tent I almost crapped. Then I discovered what a stupid little animal they are. Now I enjoy seeing them rooting around for bugs and actually enjoy seeing them in and around camp. Possums? YUCK. Giant rats. They gross me out, I can't stand to have them around. ANd I am not a city boy by any stretch of the imagination.

So just how does one object to the war while supporting the Troops? It would seem to be that we have two choices Yeah Troops! Go die for whatever reason, we don't care why you are going, but if you are going Or s*** on the war and s*** on the Troops. There has to be a way to show you support the Troops by making damn certain they are fighting for a just cause, that matters. Not to support some shakey poll numbers or get the public's mind off a bj. Conservatives seem to think that as long as the President and Congress thinks soldiers should die, we should agree. Since I elect these people, I feel I have an obligation to let my voice be heard.

Frank Thomas signs with Oakland Athletics
Texsox replied to OfficerKarkovice's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I've said before, if Frank was half the leader and club house guy he was on the field, he'd be a shoo in HoF and the Sox would have won a WS before this one. But, I can't remember a time when he didn't give 100% as a player. -

BTW, interesting difference in shopping at stores in Mexico vs. US. The Walmart type stores all expect to have their employees put everything away. As a customer, you are a guest, and shouldn't be expected to fold stuff or restock the shelves for them. -

QUOTE(Steff @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 08:30 AM) I have no idea how the K-Marts here survive. There is never anyone in them here either (at least the one in Plainfield). As fast as they close here, call centers move in. They love the wide open spaces, big parking lots, and the bilingual work force they can hire. -

I wonder if Frank was expected to play 1B regularly if he would have adjusted his workout regime to remain more nimble and possible have avoided some of these injuries? Anyone want to start a steroid controversy now that he's just another player on another team who is muscular and suffered a freak injury? And once again, why is it that almost every ex-Sox complains on their way out of town? -

Yuch. I was thinking you meant like dirty floors, carpet, etc. There are a couple 15 year old WalMarts south of me that I will not go into, but most are very clean. I also visit Target for a few things, but they never seem to have enough cashiers open. I go to K-Mart for the feel of being the only one in a huge store. It's like walking into White Hen, just a clerk and me. -
Roeper had a good article http://www.suntimes.com/output/roeper/cst-nws-roep27.html In case you want to read an anti-Oprah guy praising her.

Texsox replied to OfficerKarkovice's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Frank being Frank. Plus, I can believe he thought he would start and end as a White Sox. In his mind, he signed several less than market contracts to stay with the team. He probably is feeling his loyalty would have been honored and returned. I'm thinking if the team had collapsed and not won the WS, there would have been more of a movement to keep him on the team and sell tickets for a chase for 500. With the WS, and signing a player of Thome's stature, it made parting ways possible. Highlighting the business of baseball and once the situation isn't mutually beneficial, it's a news conference and uniform switch time. Finally, Frank, with all his charm as a person, isn't even close to Artest and TO and the others idiots of sports. -
QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 07:26 AM) Now wait just one second. Go pick on one of your own Aussie marsupials leave the only one we have alone! FUN FACT: With the exception of the bandicoot, males of all marsupial specias have a penis that is posterior rather than anterior to the testes. [/nearly useless facts from college mammalogoy class] So his penis is up his ass

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 11:01 AM) And so many of the death penalty's strongest opponents want us to continue killing our unborn. Ironic, isn't it? Catholic teachings are Pro-life and anti Death Penalty. A consistent ethic n respecting life. Thankfully, our juries are never wrong, and if they are, we can always dig up the corpses and set the innocent free.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 07:33 AM) We have a ton of new Wal-Marts here (super and regular) and they stay nice for a few months then they go to hell. The employees seem not to care. The Target that's been around for 4 years is cleaner then the Wal-Mart that opened just last month already. It's nasty. I guess each region as it own standards. It probably also helps we don't have snow and all that comes with it. -

QUOTE(Steff @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 06:34 AM) Wal-Mart is just dirty.. I don't understand why people shop there over Target. I don't pay attention... are the prices that much different? Yes, plus the product offerings are different. It also depends on which Target and which Walmart. They are opening a bunch of new Super Walmarts here, which are very clean. To beat K-Mart, Walmart went cheaper and Target went with better merchandise.
