  1. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 5, 2006 -> 02:02 PM) Just to clarify, I wouldn't want to eliminate any country from the UN. They all need a chair at the table. I just think that some countries' human rights records are so obviously disgusting, that there is no reason why they need to be given "their turn" on that particular committee. That placement should be earned, and voted on by a majority of countries (not a select few). How about one man, one vote for the UN? Those that dislike the electoral College for American Presidents, would you agree to allow China and India a billion plus votes each?
  2. I feel sorry that any life ends like this. One f***ed up person destroys so many lives on his way out.
  3. We will fall not with a bang, but with an economic whimper, like the Soviet Union. Under mountains of debt, when the rest of the world can not or will not loan us any more money. Or perhaps from civil strife. Of course it's a long shot but a billion Chinese could have a say.
  4. If by cleaning up the UN you mean eliminating waste, corruption, etc. then I agree 100% If you mean they should agree with everything any single country wants, including the US, then I disagree. We are a super power and rank third in world population, but I don't think the UN functions very well if they just rubber stamp anything we want, or the Chinese want, or that India wants, etc. There are countries we want eliminated, and their are countries that want to eliminate us. The UN should be one vehicle to resolve these things peacefully. That can only happen if countries are free to make pronouncments like Chavez just did. And I assume his view did not come as a surprise to anyone with an internet connection and a brain.

    Boy Scouts of America has a couple excellent DVDs and discussion guides that are age appropriate for 7-10 year olds and 11-13 and 14-up. It is scary how ill prepared kids are to recognize, resist, and report. Many Scout units do not offer that training, if your child is in a Pack, Troop, Crew, or Post, ask to run the training. You may also ask at your local Council center if they will loan the DVDs to community groups. What has worried me the past couple years is all the focus has been on Catholic Priests, teaching kids, without causing anxiety, that a predator can be anyone, is important.

    QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 4, 2006 -> 01:59 PM) Maybe not wired, so much as UNDERwired. A little something from your closet . . .

    QUOTE(mac9001 @ Feb 4, 2006 -> 01:57 PM) TV? That was fast. But now it is moving back to wireless with satelite.

    When old farts like FlaSoxxJim and I were kids this device was wireless, now wired is more popular. I'd bet everyone here has one. Any guesses?
  9. Sounds like much of the same social programs the government offers to the general public, in various ways, sounds perfectly acceptable to me. I would be interested in the results and what application it would have to the general public.
  10. The GPS technology will be so small that it isn't like wearing a scarlet letter. By the way, we had a similar law for adult establishments that prevented them being opened within 1,600 feet of Churches, Schools, Licensed Day Care Facilities, and one or two other types of places. Turns out there is no point in the city that isn't within 1,600 feet of one of those places When I first saw 1,600 I knew what someone must of had up their sleeve, I was just thinking there was a specific location they were trying to avoid, then I saw it was the whole city and LMAO.

    QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Feb 3, 2006 -> 09:18 PM) No surprise. The guy is a machine on a bicycle, but I lost a ton of respect when he left his wife for Crow. Agreed.
  12. Hmmmmm, none here. But I will say we have one jam every year that would rival any of the worse in the nation. There is one highway on and off South Padre Island. Two lanes on and two lanes off. During Spring Break, everyone hits the bridge at the same time. It is not uncommon to have a 3-4 hour stall to cross the 2 mile bridge. Two years I've watched it from the beach and laughed. What gets nasty is all the people drinking a few beers while they wait, then needing to relieve themselves. No place to hide on a bridge.
  13. There is a very nice 45' Trimaran in the inventory, maybe after I master sailing, I'll take the company vehicle for a drive
  14. The good news is I just took a position as Director of a Boy Scout High Adventure Base with sailing, scuba, fishing, surfing, sunshine and seagulls. This means Jim and I will be neighbors with his backyard bumping up to my backyard. The bad news is the backyard is the Gulf of Mexico so I don't think we'll be sipping some home brew across the fence.
  15. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 1, 2006 -> 10:17 PM) So why is there a pair of boobs following my cursor around the page? You must have clicked on the Bush-Cheney page
  16. QUOTE(Soxy @ Feb 3, 2006 -> 07:51 AM) Well, yes. Forced oral sex. That always seemed very risky, teeth and all . . .
  17. I've heard that also, but never as impossible. 5% was the people temporarily out of the workforce, not really working, unemployable druggies, employed in off the books jobs, etc.

    QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Feb 3, 2006 -> 12:14 AM) Craig Carton is trying to be the next Howard Stern. His show can be funny, but he straddles the line a bit too snugly imho. He's got talent, but he's going to f*** it up for himself at some point. Mr. Kickass, would you rather spend the night with, past "Idol" singers Clay Aiken or Kelly Clarkson?
  19. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Feb 3, 2006 -> 07:46 AM) 4.7%? Wow. That's impossible... Must be all those Mexican illegals stealing jobs . . .
  20. Wasn't there a case where humans were not cremated and their remains dumped a while back? BTW, who pays to have their mouse cremated?? I'm guessing the same people who pay for swimming lessons for their fish.

    Why should anyone care, but they do. Why should he not have the freedom to say yes, or no, but he doesn't without risk. And shame on the DJ.

    My wife was an x-ray tech and the hospital always supplied the scrubs , I own a closet full of suits from living and working up north, that I hope to never wear again. And I just remembered when I was working for Foot Locker, I owned a few referee looking shirts, so I guess it isn't so strange.

    Just wondering, it has been so long since I've worked a part time job. How many of you have to buy uniforms for a part-time job? One of my son's friends was telling me he has to buy a $12 t-shirt to work at his job. That seemed odd, when he earns less than $6 per hour.
  24. First round winners: FlaSoxxJim mreye Wong & Owens All debates were close. They were very enjoyable to read. The English Major / Teacher I lined up was impressed by many of the posts. We will give Rex and Sam a couple days to wrap up and get round two underway. I will have a short survey going out to the winners to help in selecting a second round question. If any posters have any ideas, please PM them to me. Round 2 will be FlaSoxxJim vs. mreye and Wong & Owens vs. Winner Good luck.
  25. After careful deliberations, the Judges, and posters have selected mreye as winner. Round two will begin as soon as the final debate has completed.
