  1. I have always found the divide between pet animals and food animals and our industrial killing machines to be fascinating. Imagine the view of our society from the cows perspective. We breed them by jamming a hand way up there, with semen taken from a bull, then snatch away the calf so we can drink the milk. We load them into cattle trailers and bring them to feed yards where they are fed to produce the current best beef possible. Low fat? Well marbled? Not a problem, change the diet. Then they are lead to slaughter, moved along a conveyor, and fed to people who are outraged that a kitten suffered a similar end. And don't get the wrong idea, I too, was outraged that someone would do that to an animal. BTW, in Gale Sayers autobiography he talks about killing his family dog with a knife when the dog was too sick and they could not afford a vet. In the country, animals are put down all the time. Usually a gun shot to the head. One well placed blow, would have been equal to the fate cows have. Any vegetarian besides ChiSoxy around?

QUOTE(MarlinFan84 @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 12:25 PM) New here. How is everyone doing? I am from Southern Illinois, am a Marlins fan, and just figured I'd try a new message board out. And Mark Buerhle came to my front door one day when he got his truck stuck down in the bottoms where he and his bud were hunting and we had to pull him out. hmmm, my bs-o-meter is starting to buzz Welcome to Soxtalk, we're keeping an eye on all Marlin's fans.
  4. MB, JG, FG repeat as necessary. Mark is our best, most experienced arm. Garland is hot and if he continues you want him on the mound as often as possible. Freddy is the best of what is left. You don't start flipping trying for matchups. Put your best guys out there and play hard. You want Mark to get as many starts as possible.

  6. Just out of curiosity, how many people here eat meat? How many have visited a slaughter house and watched a pig, cow, or chicken be dispatched? I am in no way defending what these people have done, by our definition, it was cruel to animals. Yet we routinely butcher animals for our food and their fate is not much different that what that kitten went through. I sometimes wonder why most of us feel sad for the kitty while munching down on a nice hunk of beef.

How many times have we welcomed new members, encouraging them to post, and then wished they would STFU? Don't be that guy Welcome to Soxtalk
  9. QUOTE(MurcieOne @ Aug 7, 2005 -> 07:52 PM) I think wayne did this for the sake of the league... just another attraction for fans this year. This is going to be a fun year in the NHL Exactly what I was thinking. Nothing like a sideshow to entertain the fans. BTW, and this may be a meaningless stat, but exactly one of the top 75 scorers who turned coach posted a winning lifetime record. Not too many HoF players turn into great HoF caliber coaches in any sport.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Aug 7, 2005 -> 07:33 PM) I was a refugee from the fascist purge of WSI a few years ago. Some of the people there started talking about Soxnet and Soxtalk, I made the switch and never looked back.
  16. QUOTE(TheDybber @ Aug 7, 2005 -> 08:56 PM) I think I would have to go with Buehrle for two reasons...one, better ERA and two, better career. It shouldn't matter, but I think it does. But, i also wonder if Garland and Buehrle would split the vote? Saved me some typing. I'm more worried about the votes getting split and someone > slipping in. Kind of like Pods getting in over two Yankmees
  17. Our system works. I'm not really concerned about his politics. I am more concerned about issues of character and integrity. I may not agree with his politics, but so far I have not seen anything that should keep him off the bench.

  19. QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Aug 7, 2005 -> 05:36 PM) In all Honesty. That is the most f***ed up post, in a forum filled with f***ed up posts, I have ever read. Next you'll be saying guys who drive Lexus deserve to be carjacked, women wearing diamonds deserve to be robbed. No one deserves to be a victim of a crime. By saying they deserve it, you are defending the perpetrators. Defending the person or person's who murdered someone in cold blood because the victim was drunk is just so f***ed up. :puke

It is interesting you would mention tourism. International tourism has been a huge industry for the US. With our increasing anti-foreign attitudes, how will that effect the economy?
  21. Another example of the media making something out of a normal everyday event. Workplace romance, divorce, kids growing up in blended families. But since it happened with a media member and an athlete instead of an accountant and a secretary, it's front page news. How about covering the other couple thousand cheating spouses and the fallout?

Juggs, work some numbers for me. How many terrorists are in the world? What is the world population? What is the probablity that any single person is a terrorists? Are you including "home grown" terrorists like McVeigh, Nichols, John Walker Lindh? Now how much should we change our policies to protect ourselves from this threat? How many people should suffer compared to how many people may be a terrorist?
