I'm comfortable taking this *team* into the playoffs. We will not match up player by player with the Yankees or Red Sox. A-Rod v. Crede? Jeter or Uribe? It will be a team effort and this group of players have so far demonstrated teamwork. I also see some guys in AAA that will give a boost down the stretch and allow starters to rest and to get the starting rotation set. The key will be to arrive in the playoffs healthy and rested.

Does anyone in Oklahoma City care about Cardinals - Cubs? Twins - Sox? I will say this in ESPNs defense, Red Sox - Yankees draw the viewers. They have the biggest payrolls and the biggest rivalry. They have rosters filled with All-Stars and household names. For the casual fan they are trying to attract to the telecast, it's an easy call. I don't like it, but it's the fact. Look at history. Where have the World Series winners been from? Let's go back 15 years for the Central Division of the AL and NL. 1990 Reds won 1991 Minny won 1995 Cleveland got nuked 1997 Cleveland got nuked 2004 Cards got swept East Coast teams: 17 Appearances - 11 Wins West Coast: 8 Appearances - 2 Wins Central Teams: 5 Appearances - 2 Wins Now can you see why any nationaly televised show would spend more time on East Coast teams? Plus this season, it's about the only races out there. Cards and Sox have just about wrapped up their division. The Angles shouldn't have a problem. It's basically the East Coast teams battling.

Gardy must be bored way back there. Wanted to leave the game early.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 01:41 PM) So is this gonna be like West Side Story? Are we gonna fight WSI at some point during the game? Should I bring my brass knuckles? Beating up old men in Depends is sooooo not cool Depending on who they are playing, count me in.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 02:19 PM) Texsox, to be honest, I'm too damn lazy to research it... so I withdraw my remarks. I wasn't necessarily challenging you on that, I was interested in what Greenpeace may be up to currently. I haven't followed them much. I've always thought of them as a more mainstream, "normal" group like Sierra Club. I tried googling Greenpeace and violent, law breaking, etc and didn't come up with much besides their usual trespassing.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 01:09 PM) Yeah, I figured I'd show Stevie ray a thing or two... My dorm was literally right across the street from the Auditorium. When the house lights came up at the end of the show i ran back to my room to grab my guitar. Not helping increase your cool factor. Let me help. "It was mixed in with the opening bands stuff. I sometimes would be playing back stage when the guitar player was too stoned to play. I was the Cyrano de Bergerac of opening acts."

Hall.of.Fame Not Hall.of.Great Not Hall.of.MVPs Not Hall of.Titles Hall.of.Fame If 3000/600 doesn't earn you Fame, I don't know what will. Yes, he was consistently very good for longer than anyone else. That in itself is an accomplishment. If he was on steroids, he managed to avoid injuries during that time. I believe there is room in the Hall for someone who competed for years and years and amassed such tremendous stats. All-star appearances? Is Konerko closer to the Hall because he's been on a team? Being the fourth best player at your position for 25 years would be quite an accomplishment, especially if during that time there are 25 different guys who were considered #1. Being consistent is pretty special, look at E-Lo as someone who managed one incredible season, but lacked consistency for an example.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 12:53 PM) He played a concert at UofI Follenger (sp?) Auditorium. I literally had just finished taking a mid-term exam in that very auditorium like an hour before the concert. Some friends (well, former friends, seeing as the lead singer shagged my girlfriend shortly after this time) of mine were the opening band, so I had an in to meet Stevie after the show. It was right after he had done the rehab thing, and he was absolutely the nicest guy you could ever meet. Do you always attend concerts with your guitar? Kind of like taking a glove to a baseball game? You never know when you will catch a cord?

I got Tim Raines and Curt Flood. Who else should be on the all-weather team?

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 12:24 PM) Tex, did I ever tell you I own a Fender Telecaster that I got autographed by Stevie Ray in '87?? I know it should be a Strat, but I only owned the Tele at the time. How did you meet him?

As far as Maggs concealing from the Sox. Everyone agreed he could no longer play during that contract. To me it's about the same a getting severance pay. Yes, they are still paying you, but you ain't working for them. If the Sox felt he could play, but was sandbagging his injury, I would agree he was hiding something. But everyone agreed he was too injured to play for the remainder of that contract. At that point any Sox involvement was a potential loss for the Sox. I don't see anything the team could have gained by getting involved. There is no loyalty on either side of the paycheck. It actually started with Flood and free agency. What did Sandy Alomar do to get released? How about Baines? Fisk? Maggs lived up to his Sox contract and left. I'm glad he did. Maybe he wouldn't have gotten a hernia, but I'm guessing he would have. Another Maggs and Thomas injury watch season would have been too much to take.
