QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 01:09 PM) Yeah, I figured I'd show Stevie ray a thing or two... My dorm was literally right across the street from the Auditorium. When the house lights came up at the end of the show i ran back to my room to grab my guitar. Not helping increase your cool factor. Let me help. "It was mixed in with the opening bands stuff. I sometimes would be playing back stage when the guitar player was too stoned to play. I was the Cyrano de Bergerac of opening acts."

Dan Patrick Show starring Erik Kuselias
Hall.of.Fame Not Hall.of.Great Not Hall.of.MVPs Not Hall of.Titles Hall.of.Fame If 3000/600 doesn't earn you Fame, I don't know what will. Yes, he was consistently very good for longer than anyone else. That in itself is an accomplishment. If he was on steroids, he managed to avoid injuries during that time. I believe there is room in the Hall for someone who competed for years and years and amassed such tremendous stats. All-star appearances? Is Konerko closer to the Hall because he's been on a team? Being the fourth best player at your position for 25 years would be quite an accomplishment, especially if during that time there are 25 different guys who were considered #1. Being consistent is pretty special, look at E-Lo as someone who managed one incredible season, but lacked consistency for an example.

Hurricane Soundtrack
QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 12:53 PM) He played a concert at UofI Follenger (sp?) Auditorium. I literally had just finished taking a mid-term exam in that very auditorium like an hour before the concert. Some friends (well, former friends, seeing as the lead singer shagged my girlfriend shortly after this time) of mine were the opening band, so I had an in to meet Stevie after the show. It was right after he had done the rehab thing, and he was absolutely the nicest guy you could ever meet. Do you always attend concerts with your guitar? Kind of like taking a glove to a baseball game? You never know when you will catch a cord?

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 12:24 PM) Tex, did I ever tell you I own a Fender Telecaster that I got autographed by Stevie Ray in '87?? I know it should be a Strat, but I only owned the Tele at the time. How did you meet him?

Thomas, Buehrle give Maggs warm reception
As far as Maggs concealing from the Sox. Everyone agreed he could no longer play during that contract. To me it's about the same a getting severance pay. Yes, they are still paying you, but you ain't working for them. If the Sox felt he could play, but was sandbagging his injury, I would agree he was hiding something. But everyone agreed he was too injured to play for the remainder of that contract. At that point any Sox involvement was a potential loss for the Sox. I don't see anything the team could have gained by getting involved. There is no loyalty on either side of the paycheck. It actually started with Flood and free agency. What did Sandy Alomar do to get released? How about Baines? Fisk? Maggs lived up to his Sox contract and left. I'm glad he did. Maybe he wouldn't have gotten a hernia, but I'm guessing he would have. Another Maggs and Thomas injury watch season would have been too much to take.

FBI Monitoring ACLU, Greenpeace
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:15 AM) I was referring to Greenpeace. YAS, I cannot think of a Greenpeace violent protest. Chaining themselves to stuff and driving their inflatable boats around whales to protect them doesn't seem violent. What did I miss? Most of the breaking and entering to free animals, etc. I believe have been other groups.

FlaSoxxJim Poll
QUOTE(TheDybber @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 10:35 AM) Tex...hope you get the rain you need without too much damage. BTW, can you send a little bit of rain up this way to Austin. Not downpours, just a nice soaking rain for a couple of days? We need it bad. Cuz the Guadalupe River is moving WAAAAAAYYY too slow for tubing!!! PS. Emily: Bob, what's wrong? Bob: I just had the strangest dream. I was an innkeeper in Vermont... How is the Frio for tubing? The last time I was on the Guadalupe, I was with my Scouts, so it was life vest and no beer. Kind of boring. At least "The Chute" is always running well.

Hurricane Emily
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 10:08 AM) Yea, cause you'd know all about that from recent memory. Now there's a thread offshoot for you... natural disaster songs... Raindrops keep fallin' on my head And just like the guy whose feet are too big for his bed Nothin' seems to fit Those raindrops are fallin' on my head, they keep fallin' So I just did me some talkin' to the sun And I said I didn't like the way he got things done Sleepin' on the job Those raindrops are fallin' on my head, they keep fallin' But there's one thing I know The blues they send to meet me won't defeat me It won't be long till happiness steps up to greet me Raindrops keep fallin' on my head But that doesn't mean my eyes will soon be turnin' red Cryin's not for me 'Cause I'm never gonna stop the rain by complainin' Because I'm free Nothin's worryin' me [trumpet] It won't be long till happiness steps up to greet me Raindrops keep fallin' on my head But that doesn't mean my eyes will soon be turnin' red Cryin's not for me 'Cause I'm never gonna stop the rain by complainin' Because I'm free Nothin's worryin' me

THE WAVE
QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 10:04 AM) No. I hate it. I paid to watch the game, and that's what I want to do. The wave is bad baseball etiquitte. I also hate it when people leave mid-inning during a batter and I have to stand up and miss a pitch or two. Drives me insane! I hear that it was even happening at Hawk games. I always say, when that happens, society has gone to hell. Wait for a time out.

Thomas, Buehrle give Maggs warm reception
I believe almost everyone here has had a co-worker leave and join a competitor. Just because they leave doesn't make them a bad person. There really isn't much of a difference in sports. Look at players like Sandy Alomar who the team dumped. Why isn't there boos for Kenny and JR? Because that move probably helped the team. If Timo or Willie took better deals, half the posters here would cheer. Maggs leaves and he's a bad guy? Kong answered the question honestly. I didn't read any of his team mates ripping him for the quote.

Hurricane Emily
Couple replies in one: I'm directly on the Mexico border, about 50 miles inland. Rain and spun off tornadoes are our biggest concerns. Especially since we will be to the north of landfall. The last couple have hit north of us and we avoided almost any effects. I have those big sides on the trampoline, so turning it upside down will be a lot of work as well. I'm going to use some of my government issued sand bags and rope it to a tree with my best Boy Scout knots. I was also thinking of removing the springs, but that would be a hour process as well because of the sides. Houston is safe. Funny, currently the skies as bright blue with just a few high flying cirrus clouds. Hard to imagine that in about 14-18 hours we could be in for a major storm. thank you Jim
