QUOTE(winodj @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 12:54 PM) Say what you want about this thread, but a rose by any other name... Judging by the number of posters who have replied, I guess this thread has been flying under the radar.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 01:56 PM) I used to tell the ladies I was Richard Simmons. For some reason that never worked for me. maybe they didn't want to be sweating to the oldies

For safety I like my Dodge 2500 V10. I know when the hurricane hits here, I can climb over almost anything. How about a motorcycle?
  5. QUOTE(Wong & Owens @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 09:30 AM) That only makes sense if 1) The gov't is keepting tabs on ALL organizations, both pro and con, or 2) We have confirmation that terrorists are retarded. If I'm a terrorist, and I want to cause problems at the RNC, would I associate with a rabble-rousing group of protesters, sure to draw attention, or would I get in with some non-descript pro-Republican group that would conceivably get me closer to places/people where I could cause more damage? Seems like you've been giving this some thought
  6. QUOTE(thomsonmi @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 04:54 PM) Great article. Gets me all misty eyed thinking I'm 1,000 miles away from home while this is happening. Great article. Gets me all misty eyed thinking I'm Total Est. Time: 23 hours, 53 minutes Total Est. Distance: 1524.03 miles away from The Cell while this is happening.

IMHO, the world should be invited to post on SL&P. The rest of the forums, especially PHT, should be a little more strict, but I enjoy the vast differences in opinion. SL&P would be sooooo boring without the misguided GOPernauts like Evil Monkey, Nuke_Cleveland, YASNY, and the ultra liberal stylings of KipWells, DJ, and others. I miss being falsely accused of being an anti-Semite by I4E. IMHO, the crazier and more deeply held the better in SL&P. When the psycho on the corner who is talking to himself while listening to the changing voices in his head gets a net connection, send him to SL&P.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 12:09 PM) If a tree falls in the woods and no one is there to hear it, does it make a noise? This thread is finally slowing down. But it ain't over until the fat lady sings . . .
  10. I think it would be way cooler to have Stephan Hawking On a scale of 1-10 this proposed trade is about a 2 or 3 in my book. Not earth trembling, not terrible. In fact it probably gives Kenny womthing to do so he doesn't f*** up something important. At this point he is exec of the year, he can only go down.

I tell everyone I'm 55 years old. I look damn good for 55. I'm actually 43. If I tell them that, they ask if I'm feeling ok.
  12. What about the money. How can any fan have an opinion if we don't know what everyone is making? Ozzie keeps looking over Shingos head for anyone else. Having an arm that Ozzie will use and is at least equal to Shingo sounds good to me.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 10:33 AM) Great idea. A standing "O" for Jermaine would say it all. And be pretty damn classy.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 11:30 AM) Not the case for all as money doesn't grow on tree's... but I'll bet dollars to donuts some people believe it does.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 08:19 AM) Off to see the wizard? Heading to the rock pile, another day, another dollar. I owe, I owe, it's off to work I go.
  17. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 08:12 AM) I wish Paul would get a toothache and his mouth would swell shut. On one hand we dislike players who avoid the media and never give interviews. We love the guys like Barkley who will answer any question. On the other hand, I shake my head that Paul would have answered that. He should have broken out a tired cliche like "he's just another player on another team".
  18. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 08:13 AM) A Shingo deal makes sense sadly. Ozzie refuses to use the guy for long periods of time, and he is essentially a waste of a roster spot right now. We might as well get something for him. I am holding out hope for some kind of a deal to get Alex Cintron, but I doubt that will happen. The bullpen isn't Ozzies strong suit. I'm ambivalent on how he has used and is using Shingo. I'm wondering what his trade value actually is. Potential is always sexy and a siren song to GMs. With the midas touch that Kenny has wielded the past year, he may come away with a bigger fish than we think.
  19. If I was a NL team, I'd want the guy. His first trip through the NL would probably be lights out.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 07:55 AM) But if your not the lead dog, the view is always the same. No one ever pounded on the counter and demanded to see the Assistant Manager I'd like to stay and play, but I'm off like a prom dress.

I think Garth Brooks summed it up for me I believe Maggs was the best Sox player the past 5 years, was sad to see him go. As it worked out however, we are so lucky he turned down the last Sox offer.
  22. QUOTE(HSC's Biggest Fan @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 07:44 AM) Mark Buerhle or Royce Clayton Usually pitchers are not considered in "best player". Especially in the AL when they do not bat or play everyday. Throwing pitchers into the mix and yes, Buerhle has been the best at his position during the Kong Years.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 07:39 AM) Hey! If you can't run with big dogs, stay on the porch. Yeah but every dog has his day
  24. QUOTE(YASNY @ Feb 21, 2005 -> 03:05 AM) As a long term Sox fan, I can certainly understand CubKilla's point of view. I was not quite 2 years old the last time the Sox were seen in the World Series, so it's been a long hard row to hoe. That kind of disappointment, year after year, can lead to someone being slighty jaded. However, being a fan, I always look for and hope for the best every spring. I hope that one of these years all the pieces will fall into place. I hope a midseason acquisition will be the final ingredient that makes the team gel, ala Julio Cruz in '83. Basically, I think I just like drinking the Kool-Aid every spring and won't spit it out until all hope is gone. Well, I was -2 the last time the Sox were in the World Series. I now take the opposite track. I look for all the reasons they will finish 6th in a 5 team division. I am always pleasantly surprised. I don't think anyone could have predicted this. Our division record is nothing short of amazing. IIRC we have more loses to the A's than our entire division.
