Relief Aid
We are spending $171 Million PER DAY in Iraq. Helping those people escape a brutal dictator. How much is appropriate in this case? I don't even know if the comparison should be made.

Bad Karma
It looks like something a kid would draw on a teacher's picture. During the Koch Nightmare, every time he blew a save, I'd see that hideous goatee and want to rip it off his face.

Mariotti thread offshoot
If calling him gay was meant to mean he is stupid, then why not simply call him stupid? Or perhaps, calling him gay brings in more than just stupid? Maybe you can fool your peer group into that thinking, but you will not fool anyone here. And you have insulted users, users have just told you that.

And banned is banned. I will gaurantee you will be banned for using racial stereotypes here and insulting our members.

Actually Sox fans can be human also. If you think that gay is an insult, perhaps you would be more comfortable at another message board.

Poetic Justice for Liberals
Don't be afraid to vote Republican*, or Independant, if you like the candidate. I've been very impressed by politicans of all parties. But in a coin flip, I'm going DEM. *And no that wasn't pandering to get a few votes for the Rush Award

Relief Aid
I don't think in 2004 that Bush needs to be in Washington to do his job as I heard one person on the radio say. Hello, we have technology. I do not think Bush has to "feel the world's pain" and wring his hands in public at the grief. He should issue statements, offer encouragement, empathy, sympathy, or whatever moral boost he can. Being an emotional comfort, cheerleader, motivator comes with the job. That can be done in Texas, the same as in Washington. The US will give both privately and through our government. I prefer these efforts to be anonymous, given from the heart, but I can understand scorecard keepers. Since I prefer to donate anonymously, I respect others and do not count the money in their pockets or question their charitable donations. We should give not because somewhere in the world someone may like us, or in hopes that it will be an inoculation against terrorism, we should help because innocent people need our help and we have the means to help them.

2004 Best of Soxtalk Awards
I spent some time in the posts of the month and poked around the threads with the most views in each forum. The balance was looking for quality over quantity. It was also funny looking at some of the nominations and scratching my head why? The silliest one IMHO involves me for the Rush Award for Conservative Thoughts. One of the guidelines we had was if enough people nominate a person, we put him/her on the ballot.

2004 Best of Soxtalk Awards
Only about 15 people bothered to make nominations. There seems to be one or two individuals that received many nominations for the same positions. The admins and mods also tried and fill in some nominees where only one or two people received nominations.

I need help
Stores have the right to not sell you anything. They can refuse service to anyone for almost any reason. For example, if they have prior knowledge that kids will be egging the school on January 4th, because kids have been egging Enormous High on January 4th for 145 years, they can refuse to sell eggs to kids on January 3rd and 4th. ANother case, a guy was seen arguing with his girlfriend, he went into a store and tried buying a 6" Buck Knife. The store refused. The store won the resulting court case. Getting back to your essay, What are the three top reasons you feel that anyone should be allowed to buy any music they want? It is unclear in your persuasive essay.

Kotex has been fired from WMVP
have you been reading this board?? The difference is we accept it coming from a Sox fan. Jay is clearly a fan of no team.

Kotex has been fired from WMVP
But wouldn't YASNNNNNY be more appropriate?
-
Kotex has been fired from WMVP
YASNY I love the irony I should be better at differentiating Mariotti's abilities from his role and opinions. I do not believe he is a great journalist, writer, or talk show participant. I do believe there is a role for someone like him. As I believe JimH said, someone who can do it better, more Sam Smith like. My objection is when some people get all up in arms because a reporter is critical of a team that hasn't won squat in close to 100 years. Someone please keep a fire under the Sox feet. Fans can only do so much.

You are correct, false was the wrong word to use. Do you also believe that people who listen to Rush, Sam Smith, and other people criticize things also do it to feel good about themselves and who like to complain? Or is this unique to sports guys? As far as a personal grudge, or put another, a strong personal emotion about a team. Should everyone's opinions here be dismissed because we are loyal Sox fans?
-
Kotex has been fired from WMVP
JimH wrote So we agree that the above statement is false. People that read and enjoy Sam Smith don't love to complain to make themselves feel better. That's the point I was making.

Kotex has been fired from WMVP
I agree with much of what you wrote, I do disagree with this statement. The converse would be to say those that do not like Mariotti are the ones that like to live in a fairytale land where life is always nice, the club is perfect, and no one complains. They don't mind finishing second. Basically Cub fans. I believe there should be people in the media that challenge the status quo. That point out the flaws so they can be fixed. Sometimes we need the little kidding yelling "The Emperor has no clothes!" It's not complaining. Sometimes it's wrong and intelligent people understand that some peoples opinions are wrong. An entire city of Mariottis would be a very bad thing. :puke just as an entire city of Hawks would be a very bad thing :puke But when they are balanced, one or two on each side and the rest middle of the roaders, life is good. Who is the next guy for Sox fans to hate? Someone has to be the most negative about the Sox?
