Sox Owner Replies to Penny Pinching Charge
Stern has owned the team since 1975, WHY? What benefit is he receiving? Is it a gift to the community? Is he trying to earn a profit? Part of his retirement planning? Does he want to be an owner for the parade down State Street if the team wins something? The only thing that will move the Sox into #1 in the city is a World Series appearance. IMHO there are about the same number of hardcore, smart, baseball fans on both sides of the city. We are fighting for the casual fan's dollar. The people that go to a game for the atmosphere, the "I was there", basically the fans we criticize for going to Wrigley. Advertising will only help a little, special dates, favorable scheduling, etc. will also help a little bit. The only proven method, and it works in all sports, is winning. Investing in a star is nice, but winning is better. Spend it and they will come . . .

What did you get for X-Mas?
I got to assemble a trampoline and enclosure, remove some links in a watch, install a video card in a computer, upgrade same computer to XP Pro, call, email, live chat, call Linksys trying to get the %^$ network working properly (3 days), watch son install Half Life 2, Doom, Counter Strike, iPod software, transfer songs from one computer to the other, eat a bunch of prime rib, the last red meat this fat boy will see for a while, mod out a computer case with new UV cabling, UV light, firewire card, pop open a Shiner Winter Ale and figure out now why the laptop isn't networking properly (fix for 2nd desktop %$&^$ laptop) , play with lazer mouse, listen to iPod, take blood pressure medicine, remember a work thing I forgot, drive out to a Boy Scout Camp and help set up one of my assistants and a few Scouts who will be camping this week, call linksys back and finally have the entire network working. Nikhil from somewhere far away finally found the problem.

Christmas Eve Poll
We are hovering around freezing. 33 degrees officially. The smug posts are out at the orchards, trying to save the fruit. Economic disaster if we get a freeze.

Christmas Eve Poll
Damn, I was going to start a Merry Christmas DBAHO thread and forgot. So what does the future look like?

Christmas Eve Poll
With this poll, my post count tied a poster who I miss dearly around here. My Christmas wish for soxtalk is for cwsox to stop by and continue his posting. He was one of the first to welcome me here, always seemed to sense when a pm was needed to boost my spirits. We discuss, debate, and argue an amazing range of topics, and it is impossible to not make friends and "irritants" when you post enough. Peace my friends and Merry Christmas.

Christmas Gifts
As a parent anyone wake their kids up at 6:30 am to open up presents?

Nuke, is this true?
I just did a little checking and basically it is. So I wrote my Congressman, both Senators, and my local paper. I love cut and paste. My understanding is it avoids long lines at the few phones, and they are worried that free calls could be abused with some soldiers spending hours and hours on the phone. :headshake

Nuke, is this true?
My God, why don't we provide free calls home? I cannot believe we place our soldiers in harms way, and then they are charged to phone home?? That is about the stupidest policy I have ever heard.

Hello Everyone
I love how Depends states they are for "minor bladder control problems". If I need to wear Depends to get through a day, it ain't a minor problem to me.
