  1. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 01:36 PM) They would prefer Hernandez because he's a better pitcher. He allows fewer runs, fewer base runners, eats more innings, and gives your team a better chance to win. Insert Chris Sale instead for Felix, the point remains. Just because they did not win does not mean that the pitcher did not do more than others to give his team a chance to win. If the team is bad, then their W-L is going to be severely affected. Do you really think the Sox players saw Chris Sale go out to the mound this year and think "OK, we can tank it today, Sale is on the mound" ? Is he a bad pitcher because he went 11-14? Sure, there may be some intangible benefit to the team having a stud starter on the mound, but I like to think these guys are professionals and they are going to go out and do their best day in and day out, regardless of who is pitching on the mound. See, you grouped several stats, you didn't just look at one. No stat should be isolated. Which was my point.

  3. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 09:11 PM) So I shouldn't own guns because of my opinions. I believe the assertion is your posts make it seem that you have anger issues and are a homophobic, racist person who blindly hates some people based on religion, skin pigmentation, and driving habits. In short, factors that could cause you to suddenly start shooting. There are a number of people here with conservative opinions that it has never been mentioned they shouldn't be permitted to own a gun. The simple fact that you can't even understand what the reasons are against you probably also adds to the reasons why.
  4. Some people care about different things. Some people care (a lot) that when innocent children are murdered with guns that the government will come and take their guns. So they donate to the NRA and argue with people who believe the constitution calls for a well regulated militia. Others say a prayer. Hold their own children a little closer. Write letters to their elected leaders, teach gun safety, whatever. There are a lot of different ways to show you care, and a lot of different things to care about.

Hairy guys in bright red suits are the exact kind of strangers we should tell our kids to avoid. Instead, we encourage the kids to sit on his lap
  6. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 01:51 PM) Relievers are relievers. I liked Addy but I'm sure this organization will churn out another Addison Reed or two this year. x2
  7. I like the ruling. I'm not a fan of any sort of "grab them all and let God sort it out" and "if you have nothing to hide, why are you bothered by it" tactics.

Useless to try and use a AT&T phone in my daughter's apartment on Lake Shore Drive (If I typed LSD it would have spun out of control). Does AT&T have any linkup with WiFi to make calls like T-Mo?
  9. The same judge last year sent a kid to jail for assault stating he could get the rehabilitation he needed behind bars. Guess what one of the differences was between the two kids?

Really enjoying the weather this week. We should be hitting high 70s low 80s by the end of the week. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
  11. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 10:49 AM) Pitcher A - 16-6, 3.49 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, 167.2 IP, 30 GS Pitcher B - 12-10, 3.05 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, 204.1 IP, 31 GS Tell me, who are you going to sign? If you truly believe that W-L means anything, you are going to pick pitcher A, which means you are going to take Jorge De La Rosa over Felix Hernandez. You'd have a tough time justifying that to the fan base. W-L is meaningless for a pitcher. Cherry picking two players to prove a point isn't necessarily valid. There are a lot of stats to look at with a player. Each situation is different and to make the right judegment you have to evaluate each player individualy. And why would the fan base prefer Hernandez? Because of his 204.1 IP? What stat would make them prefer him? Or is it watching him pitch and understanding the complete package?
  12. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 11:14 AM) Why should I really care? That is a great question. Perhaps you shouldn't, maybe you don't have the capacity to empathize or even care. I care because I want to leave this planet better than when I arrived. For everyone. I care because the people that died deserve us to care. I care because the children that died could not and never will, stand up for themselves. I care because I give a damn about people. I care because our society failed its most basic task, to protect the people living here from harm. I could go on, but you get the idea. Your ideal world is people not caring about each other, in my ideal world people do care about each other.

  14. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 23, 2013 -> 02:50 PM) Disgusting. They should really make it a crime for school officials to actively prevent/stall investigations or try and talk victims out of reporting someone. I'm surprised that girls father didn't beat the s*** out of the principal. If that was my daughter and I was being told that we should be quiet to keep a rapists scholarship options open, well, I'd probably be arrested myself. I would be shocked if this happened at my school and I believe it is very, very rare.

Weather here was beautiful yesterday, 75 and sunny. I'm waiting for a repeat. I need to get my camper ready for next week.
  17. I have conflicting thoughts with this. I want Frank to get in as an example of playing the power game cleanly in baseball. I don't want him to get in based on not using PEDs. He deserves to get in based on his career performance. I don't want to hear reports that he got in because he "played it clean". I want kids to know you can be successful and not cheat.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 09:03 AM) I have no problem with the catcher getting run over if they are blocking the plate. It is when the catcher is in front of the plate or barely covering it and the runner aims for the catcher instead of trying to score that I don't like. But if they are going to ban collisions, they had better start enforcing no blocking of the plate without the ball or runners are going to start coming in spikes up. A great slide and a cloud of dirt is more exciting to me than seeing if the runner can knock the ball of the catcher's glove by hitting him hard enough.
  22. We have Texas Schools Week in March, I may set up the game where kids that qualify can shoot a waterballoon at me. I will have the Boy Scouts build a trebuche (not certain if I spelled that correctly).
