    Hmmm Pedicures

QUOTE (Steff @ Sep 11, 2008 -> 02:12 PM) Oh yea, you had the file not the scraper thing. I would guess that's like the stone. At my place they boil the stones and take a nice hot one out for each use. And they put the dirty ones in disinfectant before they are boiled. The razor thing they described sounds like a carrot or potato peeler. That blade thing sounds scary I can't even begin to think why they would want to cut when the file or stone works pretty quick. A hot stone sounds better than the file. Well I could not believe they used blades, so I did a little research and found http://blogs.iht.com/tribtalk/travel/globespotters/?p=258 Ahem, no thanks

    Hmmm Pedicures

QUOTE (Steff @ Sep 11, 2008 -> 01:57 PM) So I asked the ladies about these scraper things and they said they don't use them # 1. because they are not safe - because they can cut into the skin too deep - and # 2. that there is no way to appropriately sanatize the blade between customers. One of the techs said where she formerly worked at she was given 1 blade a day. Ick! They also said the that the pumice stone and some elbow grease is all that's needed to get dead skin off the bottom of the feet. Tex, I would not go back to that place. Thanks Steff, Interesting, everyone I spoke with down here reported either the file or an electric version. I'll have to check around. I will say the tool looked pretty clean to me. She scrubbed it periodically while doing my feet. It didn't seem that much different than manicure tools. The one blade a day thing is what confuses me. This wasn't cutting at all. I don't see how they could change any blades. Do they throw away the pumice stone after one use? The thing they used on me seemed more like that. A rough surface, not a cutting surface. More like if they cut the pumice stone thin and added a handle. God the more I think about it, if it is a blade, I'd get the hell out of there in an instant. Plus did I mention the massage chair?
  3. This year's Distinguished Lecturer Series at my University was announced. Jeff Corwin, Judy Sheppard, Jehan Sadat, and Dr. Ballard. I'm thinking, isn't he dead? Why her, she will just yell about the Bush, who is she?, and what did he do? Oops, Jeff Corwin isn't Steve Irwin, Judy Sheppard is not the woman that camps outside The Crawford Ranch and chats with A-List Celebrity Dems, Jehan Sadat is pretty interesting, and he discovered the Titanic. D'Oh. Didn't they already kind of know it was at the bottom of the Atlantic? So three of four seem interesting. I'm probably most interested in what Judy Sheppard has to say.
  4. QUOTE (Soxy @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 03:01 PM) I was opening the door this morning and I caught my toe-nail. I took a huge chunk of skin out from underneath the nailbed and have a decent bruise under the nail. I've also got quite a gash going on the tip of my toe. As well as significant bleeding from the sides of the toe-nail. It hurts real bad. Anyone have any tips for maybe how to keep the nail from falling off or how to alleviate any pain or whatever? Thanks in advance. If you did extensive damage, you will lose the nail. It isn't as bad as it seems. It will grow back and you will have beautiful feet once again. If the pressure gets too bad, pierce the nail with a needle using a kind of drilling maneuver. It will result in immediate relief. The nail through the skin and under the nail is far worse. Control pain with whatever self medicating option you prefer. Alcohol, gobbling Motrin or Aleeve.
  5. QUOTE (The Critic @ Sep 11, 2008 -> 09:23 AM) This post has been flagged by The Department of Redundancy Department. One of those corner infielders is also team captain. The corner outfielder is also the possible league MVP. You are found GUILTY of trying to make two scenarios seem like four scenarios. Punishment - DEATH BY HANGING.....TWICE!!!! [/green with a green background] I plead guilty as charged. But seriously kudos for knowing which player filled which double role.
  6. Great guy and a perfect way to kick off the top 10. Some guys are just Chicago guys. Paul is one of them.
  7. From a PR standpoint, KW managed to replace a couple guys, Maggs and Frank, with guys we could really like. That isn't a knock on Maggs, I loved watching in him a Sox uniform, but look at who KW needed to get to replace him. While some could argue he went out on a sour note, everyone won in this case. The Tigers took a gamble, and won. The Sox got Dye. And Maggs is earning the kind of money he deserves.
  8. QUOTE (BlackBetsy @ Sep 11, 2008 -> 11:24 AM) I don't understand why XYZ isn't called up and given a chance. I edit slightly so my answer isn't led too far astray. At this point in the season, teams are trying to eliminate as much chance as possible. The devil you know is preferably to guesses.

    Balta Turns 30

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Sep 11, 2008 -> 11:30 AM) That's great. He must have me on ignore
  10. QUOTE (DABearSoX @ Sep 11, 2008 -> 09:43 AM) only based on 120K responses? can't be that accurate...whats that like 3 people per county? And whats with that county in Minnesota jutting into Canada? Looks like its around the international falls area Check a detailed map of the area, there is little more than a town that kind of juts into Canada.

    Balta Turns 30

30,000 posts that is. Since he is too modest to point that out, Congrats to someone who adds so much to the site.
  12. Hmm, both corner infielders - Out corner outfielder - Out team MVP and possible league mvp - Out team captain - Out Let's hope baseball truly is played "up the middle"
  13. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Sep 11, 2008 -> 09:53 AM) The twins always alter their rotation so that their big guns hit the sox down the stretch. Expect Liriano to hit us as well. I'd be shocked if they did not. Beating the Rays is .5, beating the Sox is a full game. Plus, it's what every athlete wants. Let's each trot out our best and may the best man today win.
  14. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Sep 11, 2008 -> 09:46 AM) Broadway is not that good. His problem this year is lack of control and the inability to keep the ball in the park. In those 2 starts you are referencing, he was facing the Royals. Lets see how he does against a a decent team. Whomever starts from the minor league is probably not as good as someone who is on the 25-man roster. But the Royals are a MLB team and a step up from AAA. And everyone has their day, sometimes good and sometime bad. The Royals have beat some good pitchers and the Tigers have lost to some mediocre pitchers. Maddening, but that is why they play the games.
  15. I call it beer. f***ing kids on this site
  16. Whenever I hear the reliever as starter debates start I wonder why teams do not just find 9 or 10 Bobby Jenks and toss each one out there for an inning. But we do know why. Have a starter start and bring in your pen as necessary. Teams win games they should not win on paper, hell this team is in first place.
  17. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 04:40 PM) They have hanging chads in France? QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 08:39 PM) Cadel Evans couldnt hold his single testicle jockstrap in a suitcase. And Steff, I agree with you.
  18. Hmm, I guess I'll take hanging to being shot. Seriously, we either catch some lightening in a bottle or we don't. I prefer a guy who has some success at this level. He made the transition from AAA to MLB and managed a couple good outings. Now, depending on how the Tigers are playing that day, he has to make the transition from a poor MLB team to a good one.

    Hmmm Pedicures

Steff, my heels were beyond pumice stone. They used a large file, which looked a lot like a mill bastard file, to knock down the areas around my heels. But not so much it was at all painful to walk. In fact one pair of shoes I was wearing yesterday felt so much better with a little extra room. After two months of having my feet in and out of salt water for 12 hours a day and wearing nothing but Tevas and flip flops my feet looked, and felt, like hell.

    Hmmm Pedicures

A couple things I learned yesterday. Pedicures are incredible. Nothing gets a guy talking about his girlfriend like during a pedicure. They are as addictive as crack.
  22. I just got the call to get to the island and quadruple check everything. Damn.
  23. If you need a D or R to decide if something is right or wrong, you are probably too partisan.
