  1. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Sep 13, 2008 -> 02:00 PM) what a bunch of hacks. no integrity. We should stop newspapers and just read transcripts. f***ing lazy people. And no more TV news or talk radio programs, just watch news conferences and get the whole story.
  2. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Sep 12, 2008 -> 02:23 PM) People find things sometimes that make me laugh. -John McCain, Fox News Presidential Debate, Oct 21, 2007 I've stopped even worrying about these sorts of things. Clinton v. Bush: GOP No Military service = bad. Dems No military service = no problem Bush v. Kerry: Dems No Military service = bad. GOP Questionable military service = no problem McCain He's got no experience Obama Who needs experience McCain picks Palin = almost no experience Obama picks Biden for ta da experience
  3. This is really going to suck. A banged up team doesn't need a bunch of doubleheaders.
  4. I'm predicting . . . #5 Robin Ventura #4 Harold Baines #3 Carlton Fisk #2 Frank Thomas #1 Mark Buehrle Wow, no Thome. I'm a little surprised. I had 1-6 Fisk, Baines, Wood, Buerhle, AJ, Ventura.
  5. Glad to see Bobby here. I had him in my top 20.

Stone is the bridge to the future, a future without Hawk.
  7. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 13, 2008 -> 01:54 PM) Galveston and Houston got frickin' nailed. So did Port Arthur/Beaumont. There's a lot of skyskrapers in Houston with glass blown out. So here, right now, the winds are blowing about 30 mph steady, we're getting some squally rain, but the center's still coming this way but we're really on the fringe of the worst. So all in all, we're not in bad shape. It's kind of amazing how large these things are.

Yep. Less painful. It was a long time ago, I was a crazy kid at the time. Eyebrows. She was naked. We were very careful with the wax.
  9. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Sep 13, 2008 -> 08:41 AM) If you were to start doing phone interviews with a potential new employer and taking days and weeks off at a time to go interview and audition for a new job, while still working at your present job, you would probably be fired. I can understand not having them quit or resign, but there has to be a way to have them not get paid. I know that its a tiny drop in the bucket compared to everything else they spend, but its the principle. There are some states where you are not allowed to run for office if you are currently in one (except for reelection to your current office). Even if they are not being paid, they are still not representing their district. Companies offer sabbaticals all the time. But hey, if you are not wealthy enough to take two years off without pay, why would anyone want to elect you President? Of course since there are 50 Senators and only one Governor, you are most upset about Palin.
  10. Donated to both candidates. Push for truth by replying to every b.s. loaded email that gets forwarded to me.
  11. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Sep 12, 2008 -> 10:54 PM) It might be one thing if a small business of 25 employees had one illegal working for them, but for a plant with 1100 employees to be 40% illegal, someone dropped the ball. plants like that have people whose only job is HR, these are things they need to find out. Bank Tellers have been fooled by counterfeits, Museums by forgeries. But taking that 1100 person plant. Should 600 legals lose their jobs because an HR person did something wrong? And again I ask, is it worth crippling our Agriculture Industry to send millions of able, trained, and willing workers away so we can hire people who have been unwilling to take those jobs? Do we want to see gas price like increases in our food bills and the ripple effect throughout the economy?
  12. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Sep 12, 2008 -> 10:53 PM) "Working on both campaigns"? How about Obama the #3 beneficiary over the last decade. Kerry even more so than Obama, and Hillary right behind him. http://www.opensecrets.org/news/2008/07/to...s-of-fanni.html Yet it's Bush leading the way. Interesting.
  13. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Sep 12, 2008 -> 11:47 PM) I don't like the fact that any of the 4 of them are getting paid for jobs that they are not doing. Why can't they take an UNPAID leave while they run? Or at least refund portions of their pay for the campaigning they do. Voters In Illinois and Arizona elected their respective Senators to represent them in the Senate. If they are not there representing, they are not doing their jobs. It shouldn't matter if their vote 'would have made a difference' or not. In fact, all this non-voting is what hurts each guy, by "McCain voting with Bush 90% of the time" because he has only made like 10 votes all year, and Obama toeing the Dem party line 100% of the time because he has probably made just as few votes, if not less. I want the best candidates running, the process is that important to me. It seems reasonable to me to allow them time off to run for President, and we're already funding the elections at 100sX their salaries, it's just not a big deal to me.
  14. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 12, 2008 -> 10:40 PM) That has to be one of the best Guillen stories ever. I don't really remember if we won or lost, I just remember Oz must have stranded runners at every at bat. That last one almost took off the pitchers jock but there was a hit and run on, and with the infielder moving he was right there to rob Ozzie. I also wish I knew who the player was that said it, he cracked up the entire section. And yes, I have stolen that line when one of my friends who does not speak great English lets loose with a tirade of profanity. The other thing I remember was telling my Ops Manager that there was no way those were Bud's personal seats. Why the hell would the owner have seats on the visitor side?
  15. Solid. He was #7 on my list and the second 3rd basemen I listed.
  16. Wow, I just went over my list and there will be a couple names I am shocked that will not be on this list. I knew some like Bannister, Carlos May, Karkovice, probably would not make it, but I'm now guessing Gamble, Zisk, and Minosa will not. Maybe even Ventura will be left off. Wow.
  17. My favorite Ozzie moment from his playing days. I worked for a company headquartered in Milwaukee that leased many Lexus from Selig leasing. We would get tickets in their old press box converted to premium service seats. We also received "Bud's own tickets" *cough bull s**** first row next to the visitor's on deck circle. I was invited and did not mention I was a Sox fan until we were safely inside and I bought the second round of drinks. Oz was having one of those days, and after hitting three ropes, all caught, he get's robbed on a shot up the middle. He is running to the dugout, pulls off his helmet, throws it as hard as he could as he yells f*** THIS MOTHERf***ING GAME! I forget who was on on deck, but he turned to the stands and said "his English is really gotten better!" That was also the day I learned the best gambling game, mound ball for between innings fun.
  18. Soxtalk agreement, I barely remember the cosmic convergence that must happen for that to occur. And Juggs was | .................................................................................................... ........................................................................... | this close to having it right
  19. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Sep 11, 2008 -> 02:32 PM) Maybe that's because he hasn't been doing his JOB all damn year? Showing up to cherry-pick which votes you take, and even then only taking ones that can't come back to bite you in the ass isn't representing Illinois, or doing his job. Hmm, so many ways to go with this Alpha . . . I said the same thing when Bush and Clinton ran for reelection. Amazing the POTUS has that much time to run for office. I believe the Presidential position is important enough to have people with jobs running, not just the unemployed who have the time off to run. Hell, simply, that's the way I've always heard it should be . . . we just accept it as a necessary evil of our system.
  20. I believe there are a lot of voters who tell the pollsters the Obama PC line who will pull the switch for McCain. People vote for people that look like themselves. More Americans look like McCain / Palin than Obama / Biden.
  21. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Sep 11, 2008 -> 02:30 PM) Up until the very end, he was nothing but a class act and an MVP candidate. If it weren't for Boras, he still would be here. If it wasn't for the Tigers and their huge gamble, he would still be here. Boras doesn't have amazing mind meld powers. The Tigers took a gamble with a contract probably double what the Sox would and should have offered. Winners all around.
  22. I'm a little surprised he isn't higher.
  23. Just keep in mind, how well does your employer investigate employee paperwork for working? Now imagine if your employer is tricked and they have to pay a huge fine, will that seem fair? Not every company who has an illegal on their payroll is aware they are employing illegals. Is it really in our national's best interest to cripple our agriculture industry?
  24. QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Sep 12, 2008 -> 01:09 PM) At some point in the fence, there will be a gate. The gate will be patrolled by guards. The guards can be corrupted. Far more people than we think pass through the border because the people patrolling it look the other way. That's why building a wall is a waste of time/money. Actually, at least here, there will be lots of gates to allow property owners, most ranchers and farmers access to the river for water. And the gates will be locked, but not guarded 24/7. Basically patrols. And many property owners have found themselves cut off from most of their land, and the river front acreage is the most valuable. Imagine building a fence on Lake Michigan, Through Lake Forrest and cutting those home owners off from the lake. That pig would fly.
  25. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Sep 12, 2008 -> 08:58 AM) I have been and still am 100% in favor of punishing business that knowingly hire illegals. I agree. Swift was voluntarily participating in a government program to help them hire legals and avoid accepting fraudulent documentation. But that didn't stop a different arm of the government from raiding them. It's like punishing someone for accepting a counterfeit bill. And meat packing plants do pay well, but not enough people are willing to move to the middle of nowhere and still fewer want the volume of cattle that pass through in their own back yards. Bottom line, undesirable work in cold conditions at extremely fast pace to provide groceries to Americans at prices we can live with.
