  1. there is some real excellent debate going on in this thread, thanks to everyone who contributed (especially baggio and jimh). made me feel like i was there when reading the posts. looking forward to finding out how today's q & a went.
  2. "The sale will not go through. Eli Broad will buy the team and Peter O'Malley will become the teams new president. Broad has the money and is a multi-billionarie. When you add the fact that O'Malley would be one of the minority investors and there is no chance the McCourt deal goes down. " care to make a prediction on the super bowl, i think i'll put a boatload on the other team. sorry, i must have too much time on my hands.
  3. the old nigerian scam. if you want more info on it than you'll ever need go to snopes.com and do a search on it.
  4. he's actually pretty funny in some of the kevin smith movies he's done. Mallrats, Chasing Amy, jay and silent bob strike back, dogma. his best line would have to be from mallrats. "she told me she was thirty-six! c'mon, you would have done her." jason lee is also hilarious in those movies. "fill this with soda, no ice."
  5. http://fantasysports.yahoo.com/analysis/ne...lgns&league=mlb here's a link to an article on yahoo analyzing the last three years of data to figure out which are the best hitter/pitcher parks. i was surprised to see pittsburg as a hitters park especially since it ranked 22nd in home runs. i thought that yankee stadium and cincinatti's stadium would be higher up. it ranks comiskey at #8 and a hitters park but i don't think anyone would be surprised by that.
  6. It works for me to believe that everything written here is done in good humor and not meant personally. It can change the whole attitude of the post when you read it thinking that it's done in a jokey, tongue in cheek sort of way. Also, very important, is to always, "Remember to remember sarcasm".
  7. what game do you like better NCAA or Madden? i also heard that you can buy memory cards on ebay that have all the NCAA players names. that way instead of QB1 you would have the real players name. thanks for the info.
  8. thanks for the info. i'll probably end up getting madden '04 and streetball 2. although i'm kinda exited about the old arcade games disc that came out for GC, it has joust, spy hunter, rampage, paperboy, gauntlet and more.
  9. i just heard this on ESPN radio. does this make it easier or harder to resign maggs if the sox so choose? i'm not sure how much money per year is paid out but it seems like a fair deal, about 11 mil a season. they are both star right fielders and i honestly don't think that maggs has had his best season yet. i wonder if they offered maggs the same deal 4yrs 44 mil if he would take it.
  10. thanks for responding. oh well, since i'm a fan of a team with a small fan base i may as well have the gaming system to match.
  11. thank you! i've played a very little bit of GC and ps2 and couldn't really say one is superior than the other. but like i said, i've hardly played either. i think that once people start hearing things they assume they are true and then pass them on to others. i'm not saying either way that the GC is better or worse for sports games i just think that it's perhaps its one of those things where a reputation is not reflective of the reality. thanks again for the recommendations.
  12. i've heard that too. but i always thought it was due to the fact that the gamecube and the mario games/kid games is seen as more of a system for kids whereas xbox and ps2 is more advertised towards adults. has anyone played the same game on different systems? is there a huge difference? i can't imagine that playing madden '04 is vastly better on the xbox than on the GC. or is it?
  13. well it comes down to $$. the gamecube is selling for $99 w/ four zelda games whereas the other systems are like $179 by themselves. i'm curious why you say that though. are games like madden which you can get for any system so much better or worse from system to system?
  14. i'm gettin one for x-mas and was wondering if you could give me some game recommendations. i'm mostly into sports games. i'm particularly interested if you think that EA sports or the ESPN series has better gamecube games for football/basketball. also has anybody played NBA Streetball Vol. 2? thanks in advance.
  15. if the union wants a benefit for AROD how about the benefit of playing for a team that has a hell of a chance to go to the world series rather than playing for a team that is a perpetual basement dweller. there's your benefit mlbpa!!! :finger
  16. interesting, perhaps we could still end up getting soriano to play 2b and platoon willie and rowand in center. although i think i would rather have nomah and unfrozen caveman centerfielder for maggs + minor leaguers.
  17. here's my winter meeting blockbuster prediction. Rockies get: Konerko, owed 16-17 mil next two years? maggs, owed 14 mil next year. Sox get: todd helton, owed an average of 16.6mil for next 8 yrs? cash about 4 mil a couple minor leaguers why rockies would do the deal: 1. they get out of helton's massive contract, that would be huge for them. 2. they get a superstar in maggs to replace fan favorite helton, maggs would be awesome in coors, so may konerko. 3. they can either resign maggs or let his 14 mill off the books after the season. 4. yeah they have to pay konerko over two years but he could put up huge #'s there and 17 mill compared to the rest of helton's contract is nothing, peanuts. why the sox would do it: 1. they get a bona-fide all-star first baseman who can flat out rake. if you think it's just because of coors, take a look at his three year splits, his road obp is over .400 and road ops is like .950 he is a stud anywhere. 2. they get out of konerko's contract and maggs for '04 plus four mill= 36mill helton's 04 salary is around 16 mil i think, that's twenty million in savings. 3. what you do is hope that helton has his typical all-star season .340 avg, 35-40hr's 140rbi's sox make playoffs, win world series. 4. after winning the series you trade helton to boston or yankees or mets or angels or baltimore. then the sox would have konerko, maggs and helton's salary off the books. ok back to reality.
  18. i'll leave that up to kenny. actually i think that the sox will sign a front of the rotation free agent pitcher. either ponson or millwood, more likely ponson. they will make a trade for a starter, maybe with florida, montreal or the giants. they will start either willie harris or uribe at second. i think rowand and reed will split time in center to start the year. the bullpen will include koch, marte, wright, and probably a rookie. i think they will hold on to konerko because the dodgers deal will fall through. i think there will be a big trade this winter, with us getting some pitching and giving up some offense/minor leaguers and honestly there are so many scenarios i couldn't even guess who would be incuded. has there been a boring offseason since kw has been gm?
  19. here's my take on it so far. 1. colon, would have loved him for 3yrs, 36mil. would have been very leery of a 4yrs @ 48. he had 9 complete games 170+ strikeouts, good whip, 230+ innings, good k/w ratio. but i can't see giving him four years guaranteed to a pitcher who's physique is a bit questionable. so i don't blame the sox for not signing him. 2. gordon, this is a tough won, fiery competitor, you can just tell he wants to win badly, but has a long history of injury and i think manuel really blew his arm out last year. if he would have taken a two year deal for around 6 mil that would have been acceptable, but i believe he got more $ from the yanks so i don't blame the sox for not signing him, at least we get a two picks for him. 3. graffanino, not much to say about him, he played hard here, didn't complain about playing time, but i think uribe will be a capable replacement, especially defensively. 4. everett, a true grinder, comes ready to play. don't care for him in centerfield, more of a corner outfielder range wise. if i'm picking between him or c.lee, i'll take lee. 5. alomar, great number 2 hitter, above average defense, although not nearly as good right now as he was in his heyday. he's at the point, or maybe already reached the point with the mets where he could just fall apart at any minute. might show a glimpse here and there but won't be consistently good. i would have been fine with a one year deal, ok with two years for about 2 mil a year, but i'm really not upset over not signing him. plus i just have a gut feeling about willie harris for next year, i think something will just click all of a sudden.
  20. i don't think atlanta has any intention of resigning sheff. that's why i said they don't have to pay him anymore. i thought that the yankees had pretty much come to terms with sheff. my guess is millwood either stays with philly or goes back to atlanta at a slight discount.
  21. i could see atlanta getting millwood back, they don't have to pay sheffield anymore. all in all the vasquez move is good for the sox. one less suitor. i would be fine with the sox offering bartolo a three year deal with a club option for a fourth year. year one 8 mil base w/ 2-3 mil in incentives year two 10 mil base w/same year three 12 mil w/same year four 14 mil w/same total guaranteed money 30 mil with incentives met could make 39 mil. the sox would probably trade him after the second year.
  22. man this makes me angry. i really liked him and hoped somehow with ozzie here the sox might be able to get him. his defense is great and he's got speed. plus he'll hit thirty dingers a year. this really makes me
  23. most of the espn baseball "experts" are already handing the award to roy halladay. hopefully the voters will take a closer look at the numbers and pick the man we all know is well deserving. good luck estaban loaiza!!
  24. i wonder if buerhle got any consideration. he's been a good fielder.
